Between, I am an agnostic leaning tward athiesm. I celebrate Christmas. The JWs don't because of things that happened centuries ago, because of meanings that haven't been aplicable to anyone for hundreds of years. My advise would be to celebrate Christmas and do it for what it means NOW. Now Christmas means family and food and time off work (and porn for Cygnus). Don't get hung up on religion or any of that crap. Christmas doesn't mean religion, church means religion. Christmas means smiles on faces of people you love (and lesbian co-eds for Cygnus).

Biggest Can-O-Worms in a LONG Time
by Adam inso what does everyone think about this whole human cloning thing our intreped scientists recently accomplished?
i haven't read up enough and discussed enough to formulate a rock solid opinion on all the ins and outs of the whole issue, and i like to have rock solid opinions on just about everything (but i don't push my views on anyone or consider opposing views "wrong," that's something else i have a strong opinion about).
i have been away for a few days so if this has been covered, please accept my appologies for the repetition and direct me to the appropriate subject heading.

It's a Holy Day! .....or something
by Adam intomorrow is the first day of ramidan.
(or is it lent?
) so be a good muslim.

Tomorrow is the first day of Ramidan. (Or is it lent?) So be a good muslim. (or is it rastafarian?) And put on your burkas. (Or is it habbats?) Read from your personal copy of the koran. (Or is it the book of mormon?) And follow the teachings of islam. (Or is it shinto?) Face mecca. (Or is it jeruselem?) And praise allah. (Or is it Osiris?)
Or you can just forget all that religion nonsense alltogether and just be a good person.

Let's have some honest answers
by chappy inok all you ex's, be honest.
do you ever have that little voice pop in your head and say "what if - just what if they're right?".
it happens to me on occasion and i've been totally out for years.

I left because I realized that I couldn't know for sure that the JWs were right. I never said that I knew they were wrong though. At first I guess I felt a little concerned. But as time has gone on and I have become more and more comfortable with the fact that I don't know who, if anyone, is right I am no longer concerned in the least. As far as I know Zeus is gonna kick all of our asses because the Greeks had it right and everyone has forgotten about Him. I worry about the JWs getting it right just as much as I do about Zeus.

A question about those who are disassociated
by OUTLAW inwhen i disassociated myself i just walked out and didn`t come back.i gave the elders no explanation,i just told them not to bother me again, that was in 1974.when i read the posts on this forum,it seems as though some feel the need to give a formal explanation.why is this ?are the jws demanding an explanation if you leave?if so why would you go along with this invasion of privacy?i would appreciate it,if someone could bring me up to date on this...thanks...outlaw

Adam
Outlaw, I too left without any notice or formal disassociation letter. But when the elders wanted to talk to me about it, I agreed. I did not change my mind or agree with them that I was doing something wrong, but I still had that feeling in their presence that they were my superiors and still had some hold over me. Mentaly I knew that they were no better or worse than the average Joe on the street, but after 6 years with these people as my rule-makers and authority figures, it's hard to shake the feeling. Like when you get fired or laid off from a job. As soon as you no longer work there, your managers are nothing but ordinary people in regards to their relationship to you. But you still have the feeling of respect or fear or resposibility to them for a while.

If evolution is true ?
by D wiltshire inif evolution is true and god doesnt exist, and all matter always existed, and life keeps adapting and getting more and more advanced, conquering all problems set before its existence.. then life should have already filled the entire universe and advanced to the point of never dying.. am i being presumptuous?.
.
if someone lived a trillion x longer than you, and had a billion x more reasoning ability would he come to the same conclusions as you?.

Fred,
I don't exactly know what farting has to do with the discussion. Perhaps if you had a better handle on the English language and were a little (no, make that a lot) more articulate I would be able to understand what you are trying to say. Also, I did not say that I believe in evolution. (I think that's what you were trying to refer to in your "crap" comment) I was simply throwing an idea out there and pointing out that it is truly the mark of a brainless twit to discount theories and ideas because of emotion instead of weighing the arguments for and against them. -

D,
Ineresting question. To me the answer would seem a matter of timing. On this planet, we are only as far as we are because we are realiatively new to existance. Perhaps on another planet long long ago, another life form started and has began populating it's little corner of the cosmos but just hasn't spread out enough to reach us yet. Perhaps, even longer ago, yet another life form came to be and has advanced to the point of not dying and can transverse the immense reaches of space and has amazing powers. Perhaps individuals of this race/species are labeled "GOD" by civilizations too new to understand the level of their advancement.Fred,
Denying un-proven but widespread and heavily supported theories out of hand simply because they do not fit your personal belief system is a Ding-Dong act. -

I've gone skydiving, spelunking, rapelling, backpacking. I was always more scared of getting seriously injured than of dying. Sitting here in my air conditioned office building, I am more scared of growing old and feeble than of dying. Like Jim Morrison said: "No one get's out of here alive."

Taking a pole here. What's the best costume you have ever worn or seen on someone else? To get it started here are a couple from my own past:
In first grade my parents thought it would be great if I went as Little Orphan Annie. I wore tights, buckeled shoes, a wig and a dress. FIRST GRADE! First place too so I won't hold it against them.
One year when my mom was single she put on a full body, flesh colored leotard and a 4 foot blond wig. Nothing else. She was Lady Godiva.

Jehovah is sifting the organization
by YoYoMama injehovah keeps sifting and cleanning out the organization.
this board is proof of that sifting work.
congratulations on being cleansed out of jehovah's organization because of your inmoral and prideful lives.

Adam
You're right YoYo. It is time once again for the JW organization to do some sifting. They have a track record of this sifing activity. Every time they predict the end within 5 or 10 years, all the older people sell their homes and forgo education or employment opportunities because they've been told the end is right around the corner. Then the end doesen't come. Then they get sifted out and told that it was their fault for expecting the end. Once all those with a memory long enough to remember the event leave or are pushed out with the guilt, a fresh new batch of innocents is brainwashed to believe the same damn thing all over again. The whole 1914 issue is coming to a head, time for some sifting hu YoYo?
