I haven't been on this board for a while. I've been on a conservative EZboard trying to see if we can't do something about political issues. I've also got a new job, had to get the car fixed, been best man in a wedding, and watched the Two Towers on VHS. It is not that often that I think about the fact that for 6 years durring Jr High and High Shcool I gave talks, went door to door and didn't celebrate my birthday. How often does your past JWness come into your consiouses and how long do you think it will continue to do so?

Cuban in the water!
by Adam ina group of about 4 or 5 cubans were spotted in the water a few miles off of some florida islands this morning.
most got picked up by a coast guard cutter but one was refusing to get on the boat.
apparantly he knew that if you're picked up in the water, you can get turned right around and sent back to who know's what fate at the hands of castro.

if we hadn't instigated the over-throw of Cuba by Castro anyway we wouldn't be in this predicament.
Yeah, well hell. We made a mistake. We'll make more. Everybody makes them. Are we supposed to pay forever for every single mistake or morally questionable action? Taking over indian country wasn't exactly a humanitarian campaign. Do you think we should transfer all current Americans back to the original 13 colonies and abandon everything else in the rest of the country to the wild and to people with a certain percentage of Native American ancestry? Should we have supported the spread of world communism since we supported Stalin in WWII? Should the Russian government stop trying to solve health problems resultant from Chyrnoble since, after all, they didn't build a safe enough nuke plant there? Saying that we should sit by and watch the distruction of a part of our country because we instigated the over throw of Cuba way back when is just as silly.

Oh get off it night. The Normans and the Saxons fought in your country, who won and who was there first? Brittan was once all Catholic, but the Protestents took over. The English brutalized the Scottish and Irish and took land that didn't belong to them. Not to mention that the Clovis people were here before the Native Americans. But just because various parts of the U.K. were ruled at one time or other by the Romans, the Vikings, and who knows how many other different civilizations are you saying you'd whistle happily and watch if a huge chunck of your country was taken over by an alien culture, displacing your current fellow countrymen?

But if you put your foot on U.S. soil, the rules change and your chance of being able to contribute to the eradication of American culture in Florida skyrocket.
I feel bad for the guy and all but if the choice is between
1. A person getting treated harshly by his own country's government and...
2. Allowing yet another non-english speaking, non-americanized person, desperate enough to risk death, and not in any way interested in asymaliting into an area of our country already unrecognizable as America...
I pick #1How about these people try to fix their own country instead of coming over here and destroying ours. I saw a 60 minutes story years ago that still touches me. An old lady was in a terrible fix. She still lived in the house she grew up and raised her kids in. She didn't have enough money to move unless she wanted to down-trade into a studio in a bad part of town. But she couldn't buy milk at the corner store because she couldn't speak Spanish. She found it impossible to find many of the foods she liked and had eaten all her life. There were no more set prices on a large number of items she needed to buy, instead she was supposed to barter. Seing as how she had never done this, she constantly got taken advantage of and was burning through her meager savings. Basic maintainance on her house and health were becoming impossible for her to accomplish. All because the whole area had been over run by Cubans who had no intrest in adapting to the culture of their new country and instead turned this part of American soil into an alien nation.

There's a number of Bible principles mentioned but ultimately, they say it's up to you
That about summs up everything I learned in 6 years at the kingdom hall.
Questions:
Should my pet be punnished for masturbating?
If I see my pet masturbating, am I just as guilty of masturbation if I don't turn my pet over to the elders?
Will putting on a tight doggy sweater on my pet induce it to masturbate?

both sexes! what is your favorite scent-cologne/aftershave/perfume?
by Ravyn ini have always loved perfumes and oils and i have quite a collection that i use as the mood strikes...but i am getting low on many of them and it is time to think about making that birthday gift list sooooooo... what do you wear and what do you like and why?.
my all-time innocent favorite is muguet des bois(lily of the valley)--reminds me of my youth and a cousin who gave it to me as a gift who is passed now.... but i also love the scent of lilac, usually in an oil.. my favorite perfumes are: obsession, rare rubies(avon), coty wild musk, revlon's fire and ice, white shoulders, sand and sable, ck's truth, (and also mesmerize, odyssey, foxfire, jasmine, raining violets, honeysuckle, lemon velvet, hawaiian white ginger--all old classic avon you can only find at flea markets or once a year in the book.).
but i need something new....i like the oriental/spicy blends, but not for all the time.

Don't wear cologne too often any more now that I'm no longer single. But when I do I wear Jean Paul Gutier, have for years. Probably should switch though, it sounds way too French. Vanilla candles smell good to me. Always kept them in my room to make it smell good for the drunken party girls.

Could the world "go back in time" 20+ years?
by Simon in.
the situation with sars in asia appears to be worsening and travel restrictions alone are likely to have a devastating effect on the immediate asian economy (singapore, taiwan, hong kong etc...) as a lot of these rely on trade and travel.. i wonder if the world could now cope with going back 20+ years to a time when fewer people travelled and international travel was a rarity for the majority of people.. nowadays we take for granted that we can jump on a plane and jet off to faraway lands ... but what if we couldn't?
i think one "benefit" (bad word) to sars is that it could put a brake on globalisation which i see as a bad thing.

I think that as more people travel farther, they are exposed to more different cultures and learn different viewpoints than what they've got at home. I feel that exposure coupled with learing and a good heart leads to tollerance. In my view a group of people who attempt to wall out outside influences and differences of lifestyle are inherintly less tollerant than those who have been exposed to a variety of different peoples and ways of life. Just a thought.

"What follows is the text of a presidential address which will be given by
President Bush on July 4, 2003. The source of this material remains
unidentified.
My fellow Americans:
As you all know, the defeat of Iraq's regime has been completed. The
discovery and destruction of all weapons of mass destruction have been
covered thoroughly in the press. An new Iraqi government has been
established and appears to be stable. Our mission in Iraq is complete. This
morning I gave the order for a complete removal of all American forces from
Iraq. This action will be complete within 30 days.
It is now time to begin the reckoning.
Before me, I have two lists. One list contains the names of countries which
have stood by our side during the Iraq conflict. This list is short. The
United Kingdom, Spain, Bulgaria, Australia, and Poland are some of the
countries listed there. The other list contains everyone not on the first
list. Most of the world's nations are on that list. My press secretary will
be distributing copies of both lists later this evening.
Let me start by saying that effective immediately, foreign aid to those
nations on List 2 ceases immediately and indefinitely. The money saved
during the first year alone will pretty much pay for the costs of the Iraqi
war. The American people are no longer going to pour money into third world
hell-holes and watch those government leaders grow fat on corruption. Need
help with a famine? Wrestling with an epidemic? Call France.
In the out years, together with Congress, I will work to redirect this
money toward solving the vexing social problems we still have at home. I am
ordering the immediate withdrawal of all US forces from Kuwait, Saudi
Arabia, and all other Middle Eastern nations. Leave us alone. Solve your
own problems. Need help? Call Germany.
On that note, a word to terrorist organizations. Screw with us and we will
hunt you down and eliminate you and all your friends from the face of the
earth. Thirsting for a gutsy country to terrorize? Try France, or maybe
China.
Regarding the nation of Israel, I have this to say. It seems like everybody
has forgotten what happened to European Jewry during the 1930s and World
War II. Our nation will never permit the destruction of Israel. No way,
Jose. Nevertheless, to Israel and the Palestinian Authority. Yo, boys.
Work out a peace deal now. Just note that Camp David is closed. Maybe all
of you can go to Russia for negotiations. They have some great palaces
there. Big tables, too.
I'm ordering the immediate severing of diplomatic relations with France,
Germany, and Russia. Thanks for all your help, comrades. We are retiring
from NATO as well. Bon chance, mes amis.
I have instructed the Mayor of New York City to begin towing the many UN
diplomatic vehicles located in Manhattan with more than two unpaid tickets
to sites where those vehicles will be stripped, shredded and crushed. I
don't care about whatever treaty pertains to this. Pay your tickets
tomorrow or watch your precious Benzes, Beamers, and limos be turned over
to some of the finest chop shops in the world. I love New York.
A special note to our neighbors. Canada is on List 2. Since we are going to
be seeing a lot more of each other, you folks might want to try not pissing
us off for a change. Mexico is also on List 2. President Fox and his entire
corrupt government really need an attitude adjustment. I have a couple
extra tank and infantry divisions sitting around. Guess where I'm gonna put
'em? Yep, border security. So start doing something with your oil. Oh, by
the way, the United States is abrogating the NAFTA treaty---starting now.
It is time for America to focus on its own welfare and its own citizens.
Some will accuse us of isolationism. I answer them by saying darn tootin'.
Nearly a century of trying to help folks live a decent life around the
world has only earned us the undying enmity of just about everyone on the
planet.
It is time to eliminate hunger in America. It is time to eliminate
homelessness in America. It is time to eliminate World Cup soccer from
America.
To the nations on List 1, a final thought. Thanks guys. We owe you.
To the nations on List 2, a final thought. Drop dead.
God bless America.
Thank you and good night." -

Question on the War in Iraq
by dins inafter reading the face of war post on how the us in covering up the atrocities, it has finally compelled me to ask this question which has been on my mind for weeks.
i am glad to see saddam gone and think in the end it will have been the right thing to do.
but when bush told saddam to disarm "or else" what if saddam had really disarmed?
-

Regime change and keeping someone like Saddam from having WMD were always, and still are, the primary goals and reasons for beginning the war. But killing the thousands of enemy soldiers nessecary to realize the regime change leavs a distinctly less pleasant flavor in the mouth of the media-consuming public than the side benefit of regime change, which is liberation. Thus liberation is what is going to be focused upon. Both regime change and liberation are good things, but liberation plays much better.
As to the "or else" ultimatum, that was simply a gesture. Everyone knew that Saddam was not going to cooperate fully with 1441 and provide all neccessary documentation to the UN on his own as was demanded of him by the world. Everyone also knew that he was not going to give up power within the 48 hrs demanded by Bush. But, as civilized people, we must be able to say that we did give him the chance.

US Govt and Mass Media weren't so worried about Iraq's WMD 15 years ago

the washington post's gas attack .
today's outrage was yesterday's no big deal .

Realist, what you call hypocracy, I call politics. France said it agreed that Saddam should be disarmed, it couldn't have cared less. France said they wanted more time for inspections to work and didn't mention once about how they controlled the largest percentage of any country of Iraq's exports and how they didn't want that messed with. It's not hypocracy, it's politics. Politics is spin. Sure we went into Iraq for reasons other than liberation, but highlighting liberation puts the action in the best light. So liberation is going to be focused upon by the politicians who backed the action. That is reality. That is politics. Everybody does it. Find one country that doesn't. Whining about the real nature of politics and about the fact that America is practicing it now doesn't get you anywhere.
And as for all the negative actions you listed that the U.S. has commited and all the wrongs that we haven't writed yet, that's such a cheap, blatant, anti-American distracting tactic that I respect you less for having used it. Sure the U.S. isn't perfect and sure there's thing that we haven't fixed yet, and sure there were unpleasant means used to accomplish positive ends but look at the big picture! How many U.S. and Japanese soldiers DIDN'T die because we used the bomb? Japan and the neighbors it was brutalizing, better before or after WWII? Germany better before or after WWII? East Germany or West Germany better? North Korea or South Korea better? Life for the average joe in Panama better before or after we got that punk out? Would people in Vietnam be living better or worse lives if we had been able to keep South Vietnam free? Africa better or worse without the billions in U.S. aid we send there every year? Iraq better before this or after this? There's always gonna be bad things you can point out about every country and every military action but if you look at the big picture and take all the good and all the bad commited by the U.S., you must agree that the good far outweighs the bad...........
.......or you're not a realist.
