Good Gawd, I can't believe all these things felt "normal" to me for so long. It's really embarrasing! About half the folks in my last cong were shilling Melaleuca products. I did it briefly, but just could not recommend it strongly to others, so I just bought some stuff for myself. When I called it quits, I think I broke Sister Elder's heart-she had such a perfect pyramid going! Seems like the only time she had two words to say to me was when I might be making her some money. What a crock!

Losing our dog Kate....she was unique.
by ScoobySnax into me today was the saddest day for a long while.
kate my sisters dog developed a strange cough a week ago and so we too her to the vets and he gave her a steroid and antibiotic injection and kept her in for 4 days, she was diaganosed with "collapsed trachea syndrome" she was a yorkshire terrier and apparently this is common in small dogs like this.. my dad is a carpet fitter, and just over 2 years ago he was doing a job in a house close by and the woman that owned kate at the time kicked her as she walked past her and cussed at her as she cowered, dad was appalled and said he'd take her, which he did, and jane (my sister) took her in and spoiled her rotten.
this little bundle of nerves really developed into a fantastic little dog, she looked like a little rat to be honest!

Scoobysnax, I'm so sorry for your family's loss. Not everyone understands how much it hurts when our animal friends pass on, but it seems most of your friends here do. It sounds like that gal left knowing full well how much her people loved her.

Working my way through Managerial Accounting, Foundations of Entrepreneurialism, MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers, Literature and the Writing Process, and Fundamental Chemistry.
After finals, however, I hope to find some mindless, trashy novel to lose myself in. Something wholly without merit.

Apple Bees seems to be the in place to go after meetings.
by Singing Man inyes, apple bees seems to be the in place to go after meetings.
and on any given meeting night in any town where you could find an apple bees" you can find jehovah's witness scarfing down the sampler plate.
then wingers comes in at a close second.

Up here it's Denny's. Pretty much the same thing. I never much cared for those get togethers after the meetings, because I don't like that type of food. Maybe a nice tiki lounge would be better?

Finally saying hello
by pillsbury ini have been lurking here for quite a while and have decided to officially introduce myself.
i am still an active jw but i am in a holding pattern of sorts right now because of many of the things i have read on this form.
they truely have been eye openers.

Hi, pillsbury! It's great to have you here. I love this site-so much info to sort through! It's great to have so many different points of view weighing in, as well. Hope you get as much out of this as I have.

When I see a roach in my house, I get rid of it, I don't trouble myself worrying about its rights-some creatures are too disgusting to have rights! Maybe we could turn Manhattan into a penal colony, drop them all on the island, and let them sort it out themselves. That way, they'd have their freedom (somewhat), and we'd be rid of them all.
Sorry, I have no sympathy for this group, and I don't trust that they can ever be rehabilitated.

Did I get the wrong Christmas Ornaments?
by Elsewhere ini have a small tree so i got a package of small ornaments that are about 2 inches in diameter.
when i bought them i did not notice that the tops do not have hooks like i expected, instead they have very small loops.
these loops are too small to slide on to the branches of the tree, so am i supposed to use little twist-ties or something?

OK, this is my 1st Xmas since I was 9, so I have a lot to learn. What I'm thinking I'll do is get the balls (they are purple and unbreakable I think) and I bought a spool of pretty violet ribbon for under a dollar. I'm going to cut the ribbon into approx. 8 inch lengths, run it through the loop on the ornament, and tie it to the branch in a bow-so the hanger is a part of the decoration, see? If you cut the ribbon at an angle, it won't unravel. Most of all, we shouldn't stress ourselves trying to do it "right", we should just have fun with it!
Hey, why don't we all post pics of our finished trees on the site!

Do Jw men treat wives as Christ treats the church?
by ellderwho in.
what has irked me lately is the way my mothers husband (elder bob) treats mom.
in typical jw fashion subserviant, always careful in speaking out of turn esspecially our weekly study( "bible study") er book study.. i have to find a way to work in the reference of treating wives the way christ treats the church and let elder bob stew on that, but being careful not to plant seeds of resentment, with mom.

Admittedly, I don't have a very broad frame of reference, but are these just jw traits? Or are they more universally male traits, intensified by the WBTS free-rein policy? I'm not anti-male by any stretch, but they do seem to lean toward a more dominant personality type.
I've known some misogynistic jw men, and I've known some sensitive new-age types, so I really wonder what the real truth is. Any men out there want to weigh in?
