I have a small tree so I got a package of small ornaments that are about 2 inches in diameter. When I bought them I did not notice that the tops do not have hooks like I expected, instead they have very small loops.
These loops are too small to slide on to the branches of the tree, so am I supposed to use little twist-ties or something?

You need to buy the hook part. I also use paper clips pulled apart. They work great.

Buy the hooks, they're really cheap and you won't slice your fingers up. However, I've used pretty much whatever will keep the ornament on the tree; twist ties, pieces of wire stolen fromNick's tool box, string, 1/8" ribbon and paper clips. You can even make angels with the butterfly paper clips. I am so excited for you and your tree.

Use Duct Tape! You can get the ornament to stick to the tree branches just fine with the good ol' all purpose duct tape method!
Plus - if the tree starts to lean a bit - just run a bit of duct tape around the whole thing and tape it to the wall!

Isn't it sad that at our age we're just now learning how to hang friggin' christmas ornaments?? Hey - don't feel bad though - the first year I bought a tree I had to have someone show me how to set it up - I couldn't figure out how the stand worked - oh yea, and I had NO idea you had to water them EVERY DAY. Well - it did end up a little dry.........but it was my first tree....
