Ah, hell, everybody has baggage; ours is just more interesting than most. Probably the most harmful thing we can do to ourselves is to constantly dwell on it, so we miss out on the life we have today. I know, I went through a self-indulgent period when I talked about my horrible cult experience to all the new friends I was making- God bless them for letting me get it out of my system! After a while, though, I had to move on, and live in the present. Now my former religion is just one more piece of my past, and it has only as much effect on me as I allow it to. The baggage gets lighter every day.

Lotteries and Raffle Tickets.
by Lehaa ini was at the local shopping centre with my ex-hubbie today, we walked past a car that the local children's cancer charity was auctioning off.
i support this charity when i can and really need a new car to, so walked back and bought two tickets.
my ex, who is still a baptised witness bought two as well.

When I was still a witness (though not a very good one), I stopped into a newsstand to get coffee and paper. I saw my cousin, also a witness, chatting with the clerk; I figured I'd say hi in a minute, and not interrupt their conversation. Not realizing I was right behind him, he asked for lottery tickets, even specifying "five dollars worth, as usual." When he turned around and saw me, I thought he was going to pass out. I just laughed and jokingly told him he'd have to pay me some serious hush money if he won, or I was going to turn his ass in to the elders. Since then, it's been kind of a running joke with us, and we always wish each other luck when we run into each other.
The dubs who follow the rules have very dull lives and usually don't have much money. It seems to me that begrudging them the little thrill of buying a lottery ticket is cruel in the extreme.

Just got back from the YMCA
by Atilla ini went to the y last night just to relax and go swimming.
the y near my house is pretty clean and after 8 p.m., not very crowded.
i find it very relaxing to go work out, play basketball, go swimming and then sit in the sauna after a long shower.

I let my membership at the Y lapse during my last couple of semesters- just too busy. I'm back now, though, and trying to go as often as I can. I find the excercise helps with the depression and insomnia, not to mention my tendency to get soft in the middle. YMCA does not seem to push any brand of Christianity from what I've seen; no crucifixes in the weight room, no Last Supper paintings in the squash courts. They are, however, the biggest, best equipped, and cheapest gym in my area, and I have seen several witnesses on the premesis, so they must agree.

by Celtic inwhat article was it when you were a witness that was the most complicated for you to understand?

Back in the day, they used to show us film footage of Goldstein, who was the enemy of the people because he held different, renegade views. After everyone screamed themselves hoarse denouncing him, Big Brother appeared. We all chanted BB! BB! BB! and felt much better knowing that we would never have to think or decide for ourselves; Big Brother would give us all the guidance we needed, if we just trusted in his wisdom.....
Oh, wait, sorry. That was from Orwell's 1984. I keep getting them confused.

It's wierd, but I seem to be invisible to men my age. Which is just fine, as I have zero interest in them, except to wonder if their dads are single. Conversely, older gents hit on me every day, maybe because they sense, on some level, their effect on me. I really do love the older guys, with their silvery hair, crinkled skin, and extra decades of experiences giving them a depth far beyond those of my generation. Lordy, I love 'em all.
Know how guys who go for younger women are called cradle-robbers? My friends all used to call me the graverobber, because of my tastes. See, for every older man out there who gets hot at the thought of a younger woman in his arms, there's his female counterpart, lusting after older men- it's a lovely symbiotic relationship, and not at all one-sided.
I'm happily partnered with a man 12 years my senior. He was hesitant to date me at first because he thought I was too young. And I almost didn't date him because he was too young for me! Turns out, we're a perfect match, and I want to be there at his side as he gets older and sexier.

Tell us about your avitar.
by carefully faded ini loved the recent topic asking what each of our screen names means.
great question as i have always wondered about quite a few of our screen names.
as i was reading the responses, i looked at holey cheeses - king of the juice's avitar and thought about how i have been wondering for the past three years, what the hell that is a picture of.

<------The Most Beautiful Woman in the World, Theda Bara. In this pic, she is reclining, nude, with a skeleton. I like the contrast of vitality and decay, it sort of speaks to my usual mental state. I wish I could say that I look like Theda, but alas, it's just wishful thinking on my part.
Actually, I'm a dead ringer for Pola Negri, and may at some point change my avatar to a picture of her, just to be closer to truthful about my looks.

My name means that I never, ever sleep. It feels that way, at any rate.
I think "pennycandy" is an adorable name.

jst2laws- Gosh, no, I was in no way offended by anything you said! Although it's hard to get a sense of people in cyberspace, people who know me in "real life" could tell you that I am rarely offended, but I sure do love to debate! I wish, in retrospect, that I had made clear in my original post that it was Custer, not you, who offended me.
I'm glad you're having this opportunity to see the Dakotas. It sounds like a lovely excursion, and very educational. Travel safely, and take lots of pictures.

Custer a victim? Sorry, I don't buy it. A big chunk of my family is Lakota, so maybe I'm biased. Let's go ask someone Jewish if they think Hitler was a victim. Or how about someone whose village was gassed by Saddam Hussein- maybe they'll feel really sorry for what a victim Saddam is today. The fact is, the US govt. made it policy to try to exterminate the Indians. They were evicted from their homes, starved, shot, raped, you name it. And that bastard Custer was a willing participant in all of it, just like the Nazis who ran the death camps, and fully responsible for his actions.
