Makes me so angry! If parents would refuse to take his money, and insist on pressing charges, this guy would have been in jail years ago, and God knows how many little innocent children would not have been violated. Anybody who took hush money from Jacko is his accomplice, as far as I'm concerned.

Russian school children hostage ends
by Simon insuch sad and tragic events for young kids to be caught up in.. which parents dropping their kids off for school would imagine that they would never be seen alive again.
perhaps final proof that "a hard-line approach" does not work.
all it does is escalate the violence and inhumanity.

This whole thing is just so terrible. I understand that one woman who was released went back into the building because her children were still prisoners; I don't know if she or her kids made it out alive. A few of the people I've spoken to today have voiced the (apalling) view that at least it's way over there, and no American children are in danger. I don't care, their lives are in no way less valuable. I'm just so sad over this.

I exist to serve as a reflection of God's limitless love to all those around me. In every one of my incarnations I have fallen short of this goal, but I'll keep trying until I get it right.

No, really- take it back!
by Insomniac inthis is starting to get creepy.
i keep getting things which don't belong to me, and i have to go around returning them.
in the past 2 months, i was given $120 too much by a bank teller, a loaf of olive rosemary bread was put in my shopping bag at the grocery store (but not charged to me), 2 orders of fries at mcdonald's (again, i was not charged), and then yesterday i bought a dresser at an antiques store, and when it was delivered, the drawers were full of gorgeous antique handbags worth far more than i'd paid for the dresser.

This is starting to get creepy. Also, several times I've been given too much change by cashiers, and small items like pantyhose and gum are put in with my groceries.
Now, I'm no saint, but I'm also no thief. I have returned every thing that was given me in error as soon as I realized it had happened. But what does it mean? Is the universe trying to shower me with blessings, or just tempting me in order to test my character? It's not as though I'm starving and God has sent me manna to live on, this is stuff I don't need. Maybe I'm just seeing a series of coincidences, and should get some sleep and quit worrying over stupid happenstance.

There was this one lady in Norfolk, VA who felt that she was of the annointed. I'm sure she's passed on by now, as she was about 90 years old back in 1980. She had difficulty making herself understood when she spoke, but when she'd talk to a householder at the door, she'd grab their shirtfront and hold them in place until she was finished talking, by God. This could take anywhere from 10 to thirty minutes, and if they tried to close the door on her, she'd yell at them.
Most people were very nice to her, thankfully, because she was actually a really cool lady, if a bit eccentric.

What book are you reading now?
by ozziepost infrom time to time we like to share some good reads with each other on jwd, and now might be a good time to share with you what i'm reading this week.
it's "the gate" by francois bizot which tells of his experiences as the only western prisoner to survive the khmer rouge in cambodia.
in 1971, on a routine outing through the cambodian countryside, the young french ethnologist francois bizot is captured by the khmer rouge.

"Our Lady of Darkness", a mystery by Peter Tremayne which I keep trying to finish.
"Wicca- A Guide for the Solitary Practitioner" by Scott Cunningham.
"Buddhism for Beginners" by Thubten Chodron.
And, ok, I'll 'fess up, "Stop the Insanity" by Susan Powter.
I'm just picking away at these books, and will likely not finish any of them anytime soon, but they're all pretty good reads.

Winston- Thanks for the update. It's good to hear that things are on track for you. Best of luck to you and your wife; one of these days, hopefully soon, she'll be able to see through all that cult nonsense and realize what a good (and patient!) man she's got.

The 'thing' you can't separate the poster from
by Preston ini was thinking today about how all sorts of famous people from history had that one 'thing' that they were remembered by, whether it was hitchcock's silhouette, charlie chaplin's kane, or churchill's victory sign.
what is that one "thing" you remeber posters by (whether visual, or instrinsical) i did a short list.
please add.... i did this on a whim.

Preston, I would totally be interested. I watch tons of movies, and I love to talk about them. It would be great to see what other people are watching, and what they think of them. Let's make this a regular thing!
