  What do you think some posters look like?

  its funny that when i imagine what other posters look like - i alway imagine them as attractive, fit, well groomed, with bright, shiny happy faces.

  i never see them as obese, nerdy, or with greasy hair and warts and pimples.

  their noses are never too big - no body has a "comb-over.

  I tend to picture most people here as fairly ordinary looking folks. A lot of times I'm influenced by their avatars (like StinkyPants' rotation of lovely ladies) while in many cases I've seen photos of the actual posters on this site. By and large, we're a decent looking group, with a few stone foxes in the mix. Lordy, we do have us some handsome fellas.

  I look pretty average. Black hair, white skin from living in a cold climate, a figure that is curvaceous by some standards, a bit chubby by others. If I'd been born a hundred years earlier, I could have been quite a fetching lass, but in 2004, I'm just average.

  Are you a JW Hater?

  reading a topic in here, i came across a conversation regarding jehovah approved(tm) sports.

  i noticed that two of the posters were insensed at the amount of ex-jws in this forum.. they started ignoring everyone else that had put their opinion in on the subject....and decided that everyone in this forum was a jw "hater".

  i myself take offence to that, for i don't hate the jw's.

  A couple of my best friends are still witnesses, as are a number of people about whom I still care very much, but have lost touch with over the years. I have family members inside, as well. Heck, my lab partner in chem class last year turned out to be a witness, and I liked her none the less after I found out. Some of the best people I know have been witnesses. Truthfully, there are a few individuals I dislike quite a bit, on a personal level.

  It's the organization that has them all entrapped, that I resent, not the people themselves.

  Being a JW Woman - Was It Really That Bad?

  i have seen quite a few posts from many ex-jw women about how unhappy they were about male domination in congregation.

  was it really that bad?

  when i was still a jw, no one ever told me anything to that effect.

  I hated it so much, being a sister. I had friends who were abused by their husbands, who received NO help from the elders, and always were told they needed to keep the abuse a secret, so's not to bring reproach upon Jehovah.

  The po's son I briefly dated tried to boss me around on our first damn date, told me I should have worn a dress (to go skating). This guy, who was proud to have dropped out of school in tenth grade to pioneer, could barely read, and yet he harped on me for not being submissive and respectful of his headship.

  The condescending attitude they had toward women was horrible. I was in my thirties, had my own place, worked full time to support myself, and I had pups of 19 trying to talk down to me as if I were a feeble-minded child.

  The thing is, even if I had been treated like a princess by these guys, the fact remained that I was considered different than, and lesser than, the men- solely by reason of my gender. I have too much pride as a human being to settle for sitting in the back of their damned bus, thank you.

  What is your favorite silent film, and why?

  i really think silent film is a lost art that is still somewhat valid.

  my favorite is metropolis.

  You'd think my fave would be A Fool There Was (lordy, I just love that Theda Bara!), but..

  Metropolis is my favorite drama, and City Lights my favorite romantic comedy. For plain old laugh-yer-ass-off slapstick, definitely Modern Times (esp. the scene where Charlie is strapped into the machine that feeds him lunch and smacks him about.)

  there is a member of our forum here who is really quite the charming gentleman, if you get to know him..............he's very shy, but, i thought it might be nice to say a few nice words about him anyways...........care to share and say something nice about jim?.

  he'll probably be very upset with me for making such a fuss, but, he's worth it...........

  Jim rocks. I've chatted with him (in chat) a few times, and he's always so nice! And, I got the coolest Christmas card from him- tasty beverage included! It astonishes me that one of you single ladies on this board have not swept him off his feet yet; I may be taken, but I still know a catch when I see one.

  p.s. He's good-looking, too!

  Do you and your significant other share religious beliefs?

  sometimes, i think my husband is much more church oriented than i am.

  i still get upset when i attend church, but lately he has been putting the push on me for us to go back to his church where he grew up in.

  he would like to start taking our daughter so she has a somewhat structured religious belief.

  I'm a goddess worshipping pagan, while my love is a deist (believes in God, has no church). It seems to work out ok, though, as we share the same core values, and have pretty much the same concept of what it means to lead a good life. We tend not to talk about religion, for the most part, and when we do, it's with the acknowledgement that neither of us has all the answers. I'm not sure how we'd deal with it if we were to have kids together, but fortunately we'll never have to face that issue.

  Yes, he's talked about it in interviews, and earlier this year when he got inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, he was holding a Live Forever book in his hand while he gave his acceptance speech. I believe he thanked Jehovah during said speech, as well.

  I'm still reeling from shock that the man whose music was for many years my temporary escape from the Borg's mind-control, has now become one of them. I don't figure it to last, though. I just can't imagine Prince kissing anyone's ass for very long.

  Hi, jwNOT! I hear you; I have family who are still witnesses, and it's pretty awkward this time of year. Things have a way of resolving themselves, though.

  I'm glad you found this board, and I hope you get as much enjoyment from it as I have in the past year. It really is helpful to talk to others who've had similar experiences, and realize that you're not alone. Most of the people on this board are absolutely fantastic, and the rest are not half bad, either. Welcome!

  there's a new book coming out next year, "intimate world of abraham lincoln," by dr. c.a.

  tripp which claims that abraham lincoln was gay.

  he asserts that lincoln was predominantly homosexual and only incidentally heterosexual.

  Yes, Athanasius, I agree. It's silly to assume that any close friendship must involve sex; I guess some people just have sex on the brain.

  However, if Lincoln was, in fact, gay, what the hell difference would it make? As I have said regarding Bill Clinton's relationship with Ms. Lewinsky, as long as he does his job well, I don't care what he does on his time off. The man's personal life is none of my concern.
