yeah, stuff like that has happened to me before, too! Best just to laugh it off as best you can.

Stupid things you thought as a JW
by JWdaughter inok growing up jw, i was clueless about how 'the world' worked.
i had some weird ideas that took a long time to dispell.
one that i got fairly quickly, and embarassingly was when at school, after easter vacation (still was that, then!

What Does YOUR Town Do?
by Sunspot inmy hubby, our grandson, our son, and me.... took a trip down to syracuse to see the "lights on the lake" display.
it is two miles of road through a park along onondaga lake, and it is crammed with all kinds of lighted exhibits with every imaginable christmas creature and every possible theme (and then some) included!
there were even menorahs and displays for hannukkah!

I live in a small town, so it's a modest Christmas display. A comittee set up a tree, maybe 8 feet tall, on one of the street corners, and local merchants are invited to put ornaments on it. It looked pretty thin, so I went out last night and added a few. The city strings some lights in the downtown area (which is a two-block section of Front Street) and each business hangs what decorations they want in their windows. I've got a small Yule tree in my window, to honor my Pagan Druid ancestors- it keeps getting mistaken for a Christmas tree, but I don't mind. I also have a few Christmas decorations around the shop, some glittery Star of David garlands strung up for Hannukah, and lots of lights across the front of the store- blue and white, so they could be for Xmas or Hannukah. Also a few Pentagrams for the Wiccans. It's pretty, and so far there have been nothing but positive remarks.

Womens Right`s are they Wrong?
by dido inwomen today fight for `women`s right`s` but are they doing women any favours?
as far as i can see, they have just made it harder for them.
now they are expected to have the kids, work full time, clean house, cook, babysit, taxi drive, nurse, etc., i think they have done us a disservice, by trying to be `equal` to men in the workplace.

Dido- I have nephews and nieces, so I've had ample opportunity to hold babies and watch them do cute things. You're right, at times children are quite adorable. I like to be around them at these moments, but then they always end it by vomiting on something. Then I hand them back to their mothers and take a moment to feel really good about having been responsible about my sexuality and having lived 38 years without getting knocked up. I thank the deity that I have the same rights as any man, and I thank Margaret Sanger that I have control over whether or not I bring another person into this overcrowded world. Because of equal earning power and an absence of children, my partner and I can have breakable pieces of art in our home without fearing they'll be broken. We have the luxury of time, so we can spend plenty of time hanging out in coffeehouses with our friends. We can afford to take vacations, we can choose to eat in restaurants that don't have a play area for children, but do have a great wine list. Best of all, we can express our love to each other in whatever manner we choose, as loud as we like, in any room of the house we wish, at whatever time of the day we want to. I gather that people with kids don't have so much personal freedom, and I feel badly for them. Btw, you asked me who'll come and visit us when we're old. In addition to our loyal hired help (whom I envision hiring one of these days)I'm assuming it'll be my nephews and nieces. See, the great thing about being an auntie with no kids of her own, is that I can have a very warm and loving relationship with them, but I never have to discipline them or clean up after them; I'm just a cool adult who does fun stuff with them. So, they're pretty danged fond of me now, and I don't expect that to change as we age.

Personally, I've never seen the appeal of babies. They scream, they vomit, they crap in their pants so some adult has to clean them up. Then you have to buy them clothes, carseats, toys, medical care, orthodonture, corrective lenses, and pretty much everything else you can imagine, for nearly two decades. Through much of this time, the kid will need constant supervision, or else it's liable to wander into oncoming traffic or eat the poison you set for rats, because kids have poorly developed survival skills. Then, you get the fun of paying for its college, possibly its wedding, helping with a down payment for a house if need be, because that's what parents do. If you've done your job well, and the kid still likes you when you're old, you get the ultimate reward: your kids will choose a really nice nursing home for you to die in. All things considered, I'm glad my man and I have chosen not to procreate, and that, because of women's rights, I'm able to earn just as much money as any man. My man and I both work, and we strive to earn more money than we actually need to get by. Then, we take all that excess money and selfishly spend it on ourselves. We don't bother to put any aside for our offspring- it's all for us. Being childless and having an education and a career are fun, and now that I think about it, I can clearly see why all the housewives act so judgemental towards us: because they're jealous.

I'd decided to go as a Fairy Princess- ditch all the black clothing for one night and wear something flowy and white, with a curly blonde wig and glittery fairy wings. It'd be funny because it's so different from how I look the rest of the year (black hair, black clothes, lots of jewelry with pentagrams on it, sorta witchy.) Then I got the idea to use liquid latex and stage blood to give myself a slashed throat. So, I'll be a murdered fairy princess. I don't know why, it just sounds cool to me.

Anyone still have friends in the org that they speak with?
by done4good ini ask this because i have two or three that know my stand on things, but am unsure of how to go about getting on the offensive with them, about the wts.
they are reasonable people, and i think if i could just plant the seeds in the right way, it may get them thinking.
so, i'm asking if anyone here has any real experience doing the same with ones they consider "friends" who either are still or were in the org at one time.. j

There are two people who still talk to me- a married couple with strong apostate tendencies of their own. For family reasons, they have not left yet, but they act very much as though they'd like to. By tacit agreement, we never discuss religious matters when we hang out, nor do I say anything about my personal habits that would make them feel guilty about not turning me in to the elders. Other members of my old cong are shunning me to an extreme degree, which leads me to believe that I may have been disfellowshipped in absentia. I have not asked my friends, nor have they ever mentioned it to me. I also have a brother who's married and has a kid, who used to talk to me, but I haven't heard from them in over a year, so that may be over as well.

The JW dress code.....yuck
by JH inthis morning i took a long walk and happened to walk near by a small christian church.
and i could see them come out of the building after their meeting.
they were all dressed differently, some in clean sunday clothes, some in clean jeans, but no one in a suit like the jw's do.

I always resented being told how to dress. It seemed that, much of the time, the ones setting and maintaining the dress standards in our cong were the elder's wives- a decidedly frumpy bunch of ladies. I got counseled for all sorts of little infractions over the years, just silly stuff that no one in their right mind would give a rat's ass about. It was a pleasant surprise to discover that, in the real world, idiosyncrasies in dress are tolerated, even celebrated. I did, however, like the whole process of getting dressed for the meetings, being a bit more formal than in daily life. It's a lot more fun dressing up now, though, as it's not mandatory.

Why did you choose your USER NAME?
by In Between ini think some people actually use part of their real name.
i chose mine because i really feel 'in between', in that space where your not a jw anymore but really haven't figured out where you are in life and what path you want to take.
just thought it would be an interesting topic.

For years, I suffered from severe insomnia. Now, however, due to health problems, I actually sleep quite a bit, so the name isn't such a good one anymore. I'm thinking of changing it to Aegrisomniac at some point.

Whats the tallest tale you've spun and someone's believed it?
by misspeaches ini was just remembering how one day i told my good friend that bed mattresses are made out of cigarette butts.
well i must have been very convincing because about a week later i happened to over hear her telling someone else about this 'fact'.
i had to quickly stop her and tell her that i had only been joking!.

While in grammar school, I told everyone that my eyesight was getting progressively worse (which was true) and that I would be completly blind in 2 years (which was a lie.)
Also, I occasionally tell people that I used to be a phone-sex operator or that I answered phones and set appointments for an escort service, just to see how they react.
