Thanks, CG. I talked to him right after I talked to you the other night. I'm actually glad in a way I didn't hear about it until after it was over, as I would have prolly died from worry. Hey- now you can really say I'm a genetic mutant! ;)

Pulmonary embolism
by Insomniac ini just found out through the grapevine that my brother had a pulmonary embolism (blood clot went into his lung and almost killed him) a couple of weeks ago.
he's ok now, and the doc has him on blood thinners, which he'll need for the rest of his life, to keep it from happening again.
it's pretty amazing that he survived, as these things are usually only diagnosed during autopsies, it's not too often people survive them.

I'm an Irish/French/Indian woman, unmarried but sharing a house with my fella. No kids, never will be. I was raised in da troof from 10, baptized against my will at 12, faded/was inactive for years and left for good at 33. Not sure my status in the cong; I stopped attending permanently about 4 years ago, but never da'd myself. I think they might have disfellowshipped me in absentia, as no one will speak to me.

Hi, all. I just found out through the grapevine that my brother had a pulmonary embolism (blood clot went into his lung and almost killed him) a couple of weeks ago. It's pretty amazing that he survived, as these things are usually only diagnosed during autopsies, it's not too often people survive them. Unfortunately, his was caused by a genetic mutation that I have a 50% chance of carrying as well. So, now I need to get tested and start taking blood thinners if I've got it. Does anybody here know anything about this condition, or have any experience with the medication Warfarin? Any info would be much appreciated.

I was a confirmed Volvo-phile, but when I traded in my last one, I got a Toyota Tercel. It's 10 yrs old and I've never had a bit of trouble with it. It's economical to drive, surprisingly roomy inside, and handles quite nicely. I live in a snowy place, and it does well in messy weather. From what I hear, you'll hear much the same about any of Toyota's products.

My good friend is mixed-race (white, black, and hispanic) and looks like a voluptuous Rosario Dawson. She's married to a white guy. They've got the three most gorgeous kids I've ever seen, and they love each other fiercely. According to her, she really doesn't notice any hostility directed toward her or her hubby, but her 14 year old son has started getting some rudeness at school. Hopefully, this will pass as he gets older, especially if he decides to move to a bigger town (we live in an overwhelmingly white area.)

JW's and Domestic Violence
by Mum init has been a long time since i left the jw organization.
it seems that families may be more fractured now than back then (1979).. recently i was reviewing some materials about domestic violence.
some of the traits of the abuser are traits also exhibited by the watchtower authorities -- specifically, never admitting a mistake, blaming the victim for her/his own abuse, limiting the victim's association with others, particularly family members or supportive resources.. it follows that jw males in particular are almost programmed to become abusive.

I agree, JW culture seems to breed violence. I had the crap beaten out of me as a kid, and the elders told me it was my fault. I'm still trying to figure how a thirteen year old child getting punched in the face (broken nose, cracked cheekbone) while trying to defend herself against the sexual advances of her stepfather could be considered "her fault." A few years later, my friends from the hall started getting married...then showing up with weird bruises. It seems like a high percentage of them got abused in various ways by their husbands, and they generally stayed with the guys. Remember, Jehovah apparently hates divorce worse than he hates domestic abuse.

Wanderer, I have dated mostly older gentlemen, some of them my dad's age, one old enough to be my granddad. I just enjoy an older man's company more; they have better stories to tell. My partner is older than me, and on a good day, I still get mistaken for his daughter. He's got a great sense of humor, and also thinks it's pretty cool to have a younger woman attracted to him. So, we always have a good laugh about it. Other gentlemen I've dated have not been so at ease about the age difference; as soon as I realized a man was uncomfortable or embarrassed to be seen with me, I ended the relationship. See, the problem wasn't the age difference, it was the man's inability to deal with it; try as they might, some guys just can't get past it. If this age thing makes you so uncomfortable, please make it clear to this lady how you feel, sooner rather than later. You both deserve to be in a relationship that you can feel good about. Having said that, I worry that you might be selling yourself short. If she's so wonderful, why must other people's opinions matter so much to you? what if she were two years younger than you, and got mistaken for your sister? Would it matter? More important, should it matter?

How much of a man are you? Problems with rats, I just can't do it
by needproof inlast summer, i noticed a rat living underneath my shed in the back garden.
i tried my hardest to convince my female counterpart that we had a rat living with us, but as usual was met with a wall of silence.
so time passed and i didn't see rodney the rat again, so i just figured that he had gone away some place else.

Having compassion for another creature's suffering doesn't make one any less manly, in my opinion. We have had problems with gophers and mice at our house. We opted not to use poison, because of the suffering involved, also because sometimes the sick animal crawls inside the walls of the house to die there. This causes an ungodly stench which is impossible to locate or remove; think of it as the animal's final act of revenge. We tried the "havaheart" traps that just trap the beasties so you can relocate them, but gophers are too smart to get caught. We've finally settled on: "snap" type traps that quickly break the neck (no suffering,) and a large, vengeful tabby cat whose mere presence is a strong deterrent. Best of luck to you.

OK,I'll admit the thing holding me back is this: I tend to get dizzy and pass out a lot lately. I'm afraid that I won't be able to drive myself home after giving blood. So, now I'm trying to eat better, up my iron intake, etc., so I'll be well enough to give blood. It seems like the right thing to do.

The best way to impact the oil companies, as I see it, is to reduce our gas consumption every day of the year, not just on 5/15. Where I live, we have to drive an hour just to go to the mall or a decent restaurant. My buddy and I have started carpooling with each other whenever possible, and already we've seen a big difference in how much we spend at the gas station.
