I wish I had a cool story behind my name, but it's just referring to the fact that I don't sleep. My avatar is a picture of Theda Bara (an actress our grandmothers may remember) posing nude with a skeleton.

Do you have a favorite piece of music?
by MorpheuzX ini don't know if this thread has been covered before; do you have a favorite song or piece of music or performer?
i know the question seems juvenile.
but, i'm curious.. mine, i think, is a tie between wladyslaw szpilman's performance of chopin's nocturne in c-sharp minor and angela hewitt's version of bach's goldberg variations -- the aria is divine!.

"Relax" by Frankie Goes to Hollywood
"Get Off" by Prince (especially the primal scream at the beginning)
"Ave Maria" as sung by Aaron Neville
"After the Flesh" by My Life With the Thrill Kill Cult
"Closer" by Nine Inch Nails
"Only the Good Die Young" by Billy Joel (substitute Witness girls for Catholic girls, and it totally makes sense)
"Turn My Head" and "Freaks" by Live
"Little Shirtwaist Fire" and "Transylvanian Concubine" by Rasputina
And this list could go on forever. But those are my favorites as of this moment.

God or Goddess, does the supreme have a gender?
by Sirius Dogma insome people say the supreme being is male, some say it is female.. some call it goddess, some call it god.. of course this all pre-supposes one exists in the first place, but that aside, what do you think?
does god have a gender, what is that gender and what do you call it god or goddess?.
for me, i don't think god has a gender, if one exists.

I can't logically think of a supreme creator as being limited by something so trivial as gender. However, my weak, human mind wants to call God something, so I think of She who gave birth to the universe, as feminine.
By the way, if you ever want to really freak out a bunch of military guys in a bar, sing the song "One of Us" by Alanis Morrisette at karaoke night, substituting "She" for all the "Hes". This is fun, if you can handle all the dirty looks you'll get from the boys.

Green Devil
by richard in.
years ago, when the cover of the new world translation was green coloured, mormon missionaries referred to it as the "green devil".

I remember when they introduced the tiny version of the Live Forever book, sometime in the 80's. As if on cue, everyone in my cong went "Awwwwwww." Cuz let's face it, it was just so durned cute.

Country Girl-I hate to be a total Prince geek about this, but.....
His 1st album was actually "Minneapolis Genius" which was recorded with some other musicians, when Prince was 16 or 17, I think. Only a very few copies exist, as it was a vanity pressing, and not distributed nationally. Very good work, though.
Now, how pathetic is it that I have a head full of this kinda trivia?

Yay!!!! You're going to loooove it! In my opinion, it's easier to focus on your studies once you're past the "bloom of youth", and you tend to get more from your classes. Congratulations, and have fun!

THE SHAME IS ON "YOU" DANSK!!!
by Aikon inhi dansk.
i have read your commet on the subject "shame on you".. what you have seem to forgot is your family????
yes if you was not like a "bull in a china shop" you would have stopped and looked at the situation to ensure your daughter were not left behind in the w/t.. but what did you do?

It occured to me about three years ago, that the family members I had in the Borg seemed as disenchanted as I did, but weren't leaving. Were we all waiting for someone to make the first move? Maybe. It's a very scary thing, to be the first one in your family to escape. However, now that I am out, one family member has left, and another has been to this site a number of times and would leave the borg, were it not for their marriage to an active dub.
Dansk, hang in there, and don't let anyone try to make you feel "shame" for your course of action. Now that you've escaped, your daughters know that they can get out whenever they want and you'll be waiting for them on the other side.

Worldlygirl-Yeah, I once studied with a young lady of about 12, whose mother was a witness. I always tried, in a subtle way, to get her to think and reason for herself. She was very interested in marriage and children, and I used to look at this sweet, bright girl, and picture her ten years down the road with no education, no job, and no options besides dub-husband and kids, and it bothered me a lot. I feel very guilty, in retrospect, that I did not do more to help her, but I was in it pretty deep myself at the time. I don't know what her situation is now, but I sure hope she's ok.
