A sad day for a JW- they lost a study 'cause of me.

a few weeks ago i posted a topic about a deaf woman studying with the jw's.

the deaf preacher from the woman's parents church contacted me to know more about the jw's because the parents were allowing their daughter to study with the jw's because "they are such nice people.

" anyway the deaf preacher contacted me because he knows i just left the jw's last year and he wanted information.. i was more than happy to provide it.

Excellent! Glad to hear that you gave them a chance to see the Watchtower religion for what it is, which probably saved them from a lot of unnecessary grief.

It would be nice if all potential JW Bible students could somehow be given the opportunity to investigate the main facts about the Watchtower religion before they “sign up” for it.

In the supermarkets here in Canada, all the food products must display a simple little black and white standard health summary listing the main nutritional content, such as the amount and percentage of saturated fat, trans fat, cholesterol, sugar, etc. This is in addition to the usual ingredients list. (I’m not sure how many other countries this is required in.) Now, wouldn’t it be great if all cult recruiters (JWs, Mormons, etc.) were required by law to hand out something sort of similar; i.e., a little sheet with a brief outline of the specific “content” of their particular little religion, such as a list of all the rules (I mean all of them), percentage of bullshit content, and warnings (possible death from blood loss, possible molestation of children, possible depression and suicide from shunning, high degree of thought control, large percentage of time wasted) – in other words, mandatory full disclosure from the very start.

People should have the opportunity to know exactly what they’re getting into – whether they’re joining a cult, buying a used car, or picking up a box of crackers at the supermarket. After all, in today’s enlightened yet regulated society, full disclosure is only fair.

I just played an excellent documentary to my long-standing JW parents last night on YouTube which really illustrates how so many people can become duped by unbelievably ridiculous religious cults. It’s called “Gods of the New Age – Mind-Control Cults,” and it is at the following link:

The documentary highlights the abundant proliferation of these gurus over in India, who are self-appointed spiritual leaders who manage to get a following of brainless sheep. (It is a somewhat older film, dated sometime around the early 90s.) These old bearded men claim to be equal to, or even superior to, God Himself! And, of course, some of them claim to actually be God in the flesh.

It shows these old gurus parading around before their dirt-poor followers, who are seen waving, bowing, and even throwing dirt on themselves. One guru apparently parades by his followers three times a day in his Rolls Royce – he actually owned 40 of them! Many of these little cults are now even amassing supporters by westerners over in India, and some are moving shop right into the USA, many under the pretext of offering various yoga meditation groups. It showed them in one such yoga class all writhing and bouncing around more tenaciously than those jungle tribal communities you see on National Geographic, including rolling around and contorting on the floor screaming insanely (somehow this is suppose to help them in some enigmatic way).

My point is that when you consider the tremendous proliferation of so many different bizarre little cults like that, where even seemingly intelligent and educated people are drawn in and promptly drop their brain in the garbage bin at the door, I guess maybe it’s not quite so much of a stretch of the imagination to see odd cults like the Watchtower. As the saying goes, “There’s a sucker born every minute.” It seems to be a common “human” thing for so many people at large to completely surrender themselves – often to the totally ridiculous!

That is our goal—no longer letting the JWs control our lives—and it offers the best form of closure we can hope for. Anyone can completely sever all attachments to the organization in our own mind and figurative heart, mentally and emotionally. As to how long one wants the physical part to match (i.e., voting with your pocketbook and your feet), that all depends upon the individual’s own timeline based on the nature and degree of the needs of full independence versus the emotional power among interconnected relationships of family and friends.

Just follow your natural “gut” and everything will fall into place in the time which is appropriate for you as an individual.

as most of us know, the society is spending 10's of millions of dollars on a giant, state of the art, secluded bunker country club headquarters in very remote, isolated warwick ny.. the question that "some" have is, why?

if armageddon is coming "very soon", why go to all that time & effort & expense?

why have thousands of jws dedicating their time to this massive effort instead of the "lifesaving ministry"?.

Good point. As the illustration on p. 11 of the July 15, 2013 Watchtower shows, all the members of the Governing Body are supposed to have left the earth shortly before Armageddon. So, it looks like in reality they believe that they aren’t really going anywhere soon. Their own lack of faith is thus exposed.

True. When you think of it, that underlying strategy kind of makes sense. Actually, by doing this new building project, the Governing Body can accomplish killing two birds with one stone: On the one hand, they are securing a nice not-so-little “nest egg” for their retirement future and for the continued propagation of their cult religious network (pyramid scheme); and on the other hand, it perpetuates the intrigue aspect, further validating the Governing Body’s perceived “theocratic” leadership.

It’s just a game of follow the leader, and see what the leader is going to do next. The almost soap-opera-like fascination is almost similar to the cult-like following of the goings-on in the British Royal Family, so doggedly pursued in all the tabloids. I guess people will always need some kind of celebrity.

And actually I heard that Rutherford had been wearing one of those radioactive “radium belts” (marketed as the “Radio-Active Solar Pad”), which was also being promoted in the pages of The Golden Age magazine of June 23, 1920, pp. 606-7, which recommended radium to be used in protracted close proximity to the human body. (Rutherford also printed an articled “Radium – Earth’s Most Valuable Substance” in The Golden Age of February 2, 1921, p. 260 stating that “honest demons [speaking through mediums or Ouija Boards] said that in discovering Radium, mankind was getting close to the secret of life [though lying spirits were involved],” and that “even liars will sometimes tell the truth.”)

I guess alcohol and radiation aren’t a good mix. The holy spirit must have forgotten to warn him about that!

IMPORTANT QUESTION REGARDING JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES

hello.. i would like to know about jehovah's witnesses, what they can cannot do.. i am interested in the truth, although it seems a bit confusing.. i have seen a few of jehovah's witness on facebook, and would like to know, why in the literature it says that it is dis-encouraged to have a profile on social network sites, yet many have profiles, why is it like that?

also in commenting on photos on the site, i noticed swearing inappropriate words and behavior from comments on some photos.

is there any knowledge gone to heart to the ones acting this way?

though it still depresses me to think of all the young ones (including my own relatives) falling under the influence of this dangerous piece of propaganda, it's at least some small comfort that the sparlock video is backfiring so dramatically among thinking non-jws.. .

Here’s the problem spelled out for you:

Telling a young, impressionable child that ‘Jehovah will be sad [angry]’ with him (Caleb) simply because he has a harmless little “magical” toy (Sparlock). In other words, if a young child plays with toy Smurfs, superhero action figures (Spiderman, Superman, Batman, Yoda, etc.), or watches any such movies (especially Harry Potter), or has anything to do with anything which is supposedly associated with “magic” [childhood imagination] – or if the child does any of the zillions of normal things condemned and forbidden by the Watchtower organization (now run by eight senile, grumpy old men), such as celebrating anything, or playing on an after school sports team – then that child will thus make Almighty God sad [angry as hell] with him/her and probably destroy him/her at Armageddon, and he/she won’t get to pat the panda bears or, for that matter, see his/her family forevermore.

Now, if that child reaches puberty and does other “bad” things, such as discover the wonders of his little willie (especially if it involves rather off-the-wall fantasies), and starts to think that he might have sinned against the holy spirit, then that can certainly open the door to a whole bunch (actually, a sh^tload) of problems from the neck up which necessitate quite a few visits from a psychiatric therapist.

Um, that’s the problem with the video.

I agree that we should have the desire and interest that those trapped in the cult, especially the children, are able to at least see their way out of that evil, man-made, legalistic forest. But in order for them to actually find an exit point, they need to have the simple truth about the so-called “truth” presented to them in one form or another for them to actually see it.

Prayer is a good self-motivation technique, but I think that we should also try doing something simple to allow those still inside the Watchtower prison to see the overall logic involved and be caused to wake up. And to that end, I think that there are some simple things we can do:

For those of us who have been lucky enough to find our own way out but have family still in, we can send a very brief letter with some appropriate Web links, such as http://www.jwfacts.com, http://www.a2z.org/wtarchive/archive.htm, http://www.watchtowerdocuments.com, http://www.ajwrb.org, etc., and perhaps enclose a very brief printout of some pertinent information for them personally to consider.

For any one of us, whether still in or not, we can very carefully disseminate a large volume of small, folded slips of paper which say something like, “Are You a Jehovah’s Witness? Pick me up” on the front-facing side, and then inside something like, “Do you have nagging questions about the Watchtower doctrines and policies? Are you perplexed by the ever-changing teachings and stance of the organization’s leadership? If so, then you owe it to yourself to at least consider the following facts:,” and finally, a short list of Web sites, such as the ones mentioned above. These could be covertly left in the kingdom hall on top of the toilets, in the cleaning supply room, the cloakroom, or in the parking lot. (Extreme care would have to be exercised, as many kingdom halls now have extensive surveillance systems which continuously record footage from multiple points!) And, of course, such little gems can also be scattered around public parks, public washrooms, bus stops, etc. I know it may be a tiny bit of littering, but that would be far outweighed by the benefits. First, it would serve as a warning to anyone who might be tempted to indulge the JWs when they call at their door, and second, it could provide that little wedge that might pry open a JWs mind and actually let some light in there. Of course, secretly leaving such little slips of paper at the kingdom hall would no doubt result in some interesting but strategic discussions being initiated among the JWs. (I.e., “Brother/sister so-and-so, look what I found on the floor in the washroom stall. It must be from some apostate. I wonder why someone would leave such a thing in there? . . . . hmm . . . . look at these Websites listed here . . . .”) You never know.

There has to be something tangible that can be done to help wake folks up. Prayer is positive, but so are real and clever actions!
