For me, it was the combination of all of those ridiculously numerous inconsistencies and falsehoods. The WTS says that it can prove that we are in the “last days” of this “system of things” because “everything dovetails together” in the signs and events. However, I, or anyone else, can easily prove that the WTS is not “spirit directed” in any way and most certainly is not and could not be the “one-and-only true religion” because all those inconsistencies and falsehoods (lies) all dovetail together to prove that it isn’t or couldn’t. Yes, everything does fit like a key – to prove that the WTS is just another quirky sect/cult as full of lies as the rest of them.

What was the "logical straw" that broke your camel's back?
by Pacopoolio ini had a bunch of tiny little nags that always bothered me about the bible/god/etc.
that eventually led to me drifting away, but this was my personal, singular issue that no one could address.
i think i mentioned it before here, but, for summation again:.

How exactly is the Holy Spirit 'directing' the WT?
by keyser soze init seems pretty impotent to me if it is.. let's assume, for the sake of argument, that they are merely 'spirit-directed', as opposed to 'inspired'.
and let's assume that there is even a difference(other than semantics) to begin with.
neither claim is validated by the end result.

“Band on the Run”: “Did the Holy Spirit direct the cross and crown, the pyramid worship, the different dates for Armageddon, the child abuse, Beth Sarim, the Bethel Christmas tree?”
Good point – especially from the year 1919 onward, when the Watchtower corporation was supposed to have been officially recognized and appointed by Jehovah God through Jesus Christ as being God’s one-and-only spirit-directed organization on earth. So, you would think that after 1919 those fundamental issues of dogma and policy would have been refined, or at least straightened up somewhat. But what do we find after 1919? It’s been taking about a hundred years since then for the Watchtower organization (remember, God’s one-and-only spirit-directed organization on earth, don’t you know!) to come to terms with much of those same fundamental precepts. And lord knows how long it would take them – and God through Jesus – to substantially straighten things out to a satisfactory and logical reconciliation.
Personally, I consider myself more to be a follower of quantum physicist Stephen Hawking. But you might say, He doesn’t claim any spiritual inspiration or offer any religious direction whatsoever. . . . Precisely!

“heavensgate11”: “How about the hate speeches given here at the JWN community . . . Only JWN Ex Witnesses are allowed to use profanity, . . .”
Think of it this way: If (theoretically) I were to scream and/or swear in someone’s face, that would generally be considered abusive and provocative behavior. Right? Right. Now, let’s say that the other person has just deliberately stomped as hard as he/she could on my toes. Let’s say I then screamed in the person’s face, maybe even using profanity. (I might scream something like, “What the f[iddlestick] did you do that for!?”) Now, in this case also, I’m screaming or even swearing in someone’s face. Can you spot the difference?
In this second hypothetical scenario, I am also acting in a way which would generally be considered abusive and provocative, but, this time the person has just stomped as hard as he/she could on my toes – so, in this particular instance, I am merely reacting in a natural and understandable, and to some extent even involuntary, way.
So, can you see the connection here? There are a variety of folks on this Web site, many of whom having had a wide range of experiences with the Watchtower religion, many of which being negative and hurtful. Now, when people are hurt, they naturally, and also have the right to, react by venting their emotional pain, indignation, and frustration. And, being in the free and democratic society in which we live, we can and should expect that such ones, having been ignominiously victimized, can and will express their pain and frustration. Moreover, this forum and others like it are thus appropriate and practical avenues for this expression. And to that end, being able to express one’s pain as such is cathartic, therapeutic, and efficacious, as it relieves the pain of the individual through the sharing of it among others of similar experience.
So, what may seem to you, “heavensgate11,” as being “hate speeches” on here is actually what simply amounts so people saying “Ouch!” when their toes have been painfully stomped on. Such ones need and deserve understanding. After all, it really does hurt!

Maybe there will be yet another contribution box set up in every Kingdom Hall marked “CANDICE CONTI LEGAL EXPENSE FUND,” which will replace any special disaster relief fund. (Actually, that would be a kind of special disaster relief fund, so to speak.)

(I tried to also increase the font size of the word “love” to size #6 (24pt), but for some reason the posting editor on this site doesn’t retain the formatting change of font size. So, please just imagine in your mind the word “love” in my above post in 24-point size.)

Let me garnish the most important word in the above post from “LisaRose” with the bold and italics which it deserves – here it is:
“Love.”
I just had to do that, as that particular word, as simple and seemingly ubiquitous as it is, really is most profound. When you think of it, not clinking glasses, not throwing rice/confetti at weddings, not celebrating Mother’s Day or Father’s Day, not saying “lucky” or “good luck,” not masturbating (practicing “self abuse”), not running for class president in school, not buying a lottery ticket, not growing a beard, etc., etc., etc., . . . . none of all those petty, childish, ridiculous things can hold a candle or a piss in a category F5 hurricane in comparison to the very positive and mutually-beneficial – and scriptural – concept of you know what: L-O-V-E. The Watchtower corporation (organization) should go back to the ABC’s of Christianity and ‘learn what that means,’ along with mercy. As Jesus Christ would agree, that’s the real McCoy!

Women in the WT world - International Womens Day
by JWdaughter inso, reading the articles about outstanding women in religion who are notable during this international day of women i noticed that among the episcolpalians, the catholics, muslims, buddhists, wiccans, mormons and bahais (and other random religous leaders that happen to be female) there is not one jw woman mentioned as holding a significant position.
do you think any of them will look at the list(s) and wonder?
while barbara anderson is significant in a ministry regarding the wt, she is not listed, nor is she a jw.

Blondie, you forgot about an influential female author: Miss Ann Eliza Brainerd, later known as Mrs. J. G. Smith, who wrote the novel Seola published in 1878. Her book was highly regarded by Watchtower President Charles Taze Russell. When it was revised and published in 1924 under the name Angels and Women, it was promoted by Watchtower Society President Joseph Franklin Rutherford. More recently, Angels and Women has been endorsed by Governing Body member Samuel Herd.
Who knows just how much of the earlier writing of the Watchtower literature was influenced by Mrs. Smith’s book. It’s interesting that President Russell thought that Jehovah God actually resides in the Pleiades, or Seven Sisters. Perhaps there is more influence of women in the Watchtower’s history than they would care to divulge.

“Still Totally ADD”: Sorry to hear about your loss, and also for the cold and harrowing ordeal you had to go through in your treatment by the JWs (the one and only true religion, don’t you know!).
If the gentleman who passed away had been someone in a notable position in the WT hierarchy, such as a presiding overseer, circuit overseer, district overseer, or top-ranking lawyer in the WT legal department, then you can bet your boots and saddle that the “loving” organization (corporation) would have made a fuss over him, spreading the news, donating flowers, and having a very professional funeral program composed and run on a press, complete with a four-color photograph. But us simple rank-and-file folk are just considered the PaperMate, Kraft Dinner, Polaroid, Volkswagen/Hyundai brands of the WT organization’s corporate machine. And those of us who no longer have any real “use” to the corporation are just easily forgotten and thrown by the wayside. It truly is like a pecking order among wolves.

Glad to see you here, “GoUnion”! You’re one of many, many people, growing every day, who are learning the real truth about the Watchtower religion.
Our biggest and most effective tools are facts and logic. These to the Watchtower Corporation are like daylight and holy water to a vampire. They cause both of them to crawl back into the dank corner they came from. Use them well, my friend.
