Hi Met,
I guess it's easier to keep Jesus far enough away so he doesn't cramp your style It's sad to see them have such a sterile and prim view of God and miss out on a loving relationship with him. I thank God he reached me and saved me out of that lonely, impersonal (not to mention unbiblical) religion.
In remembrance of his sacrifice and victory
and looking forward to his return,

Jehova's Witnesses and Dating
by SoManyQuestions inthere's this really great girl i know, and she is so perfect for me, except for the fact that she's a jehova's witness and i'm not.
she says that she can't date outside the religion.
i'm pretty sure that jehova's witnesses are a branch of "mainstream christianity" (meaning they just basically follow the bible, not have a different interpretation like like mormons).

SMQ--
From someoe whos studied the Bible extensively and is a christian,
JWs are not anything like christianity. They even admit that. At least that they are nothing like 'mainstream' christianity. I'm not being picky over denominations because thats not the type of person I am-- I'm ok with christians disagreeing on small issues but JW beliefs are totally different. I was a JW and left because their beliefs are not in the Bible. They are very different from Mormons in their beliefs but just as far off from what the Bible actually says. JWs have their own corupt 'translation'--and I use that word loosely-- of the Bible that convieniently alters most important passages to their gain. For a list of shocking doctrines just ask and I'm sure we can all show you the stark contrast from JW to Christians. Not all on here are christians but we can help you tell the difference between what the two believe in

Do you celebrate Holidays after you leave?
by Lalis inhi everyone im new in here i was just curios does anyone here after leaving the j.w.
organization celebrate any holidays without a problem?
or attend birthday parties and stuff like that without it bothering you?i know i dont have a problem with it.i dont celebrate any major holidays but thats because after so many years not doing it i would feel weird doing it now but i dont have a problem being invited to a gathering that has to do with any of the above.

For me, personally, it helped to find out the true roots and motives to holidays. The JWs twist what the meanings and then try to prove them wrong. Almost all of the holidays origins were christian, not pagan and celebrate something amazing that God did. Recognizing those true motives in celbrating holidays is what it's about. At least for me

Well, the Bible says it's up to each person to examine their hearts before taking the symbols (bread & Wine) and if they don't and really don't have the right to take them then they are drinking their own judgment. It's not my or anyone elses place to decide who 'desrves' or 'should' participate in communion. I know JWs don't call it that but ya know what I mean
Any believer is allowed & commanded to praticipate in this way of remembering the Lord. When Jesus instituted is on the night of the last supper he didn't specify a separate class of believers to take it and later he commands them to go into the world and teach them to obey 'EVERYTHING' he commanded them. That would seem to follow that, that includes the symbols too.
And, BTW,
Of course the memorial is going to fall next to easter because it is 'celebrated' on the original night of the last supper which is the thursday before Easter. Easter is on that date because Jesus rose on the third day--Sunday-- and that's the original meaning of Easter. To celebrate the resurection. The bunnies and eggs came later but their original symbolism was all christian related to the resurection too. They may not hold those meaning in modern society but their origins did. Easter is also not 'Ishtar' either-- the name comes from another christian source. JWs attack 'straw dogs' in relation to celebrations and holidays. They take an obscure meaning or an inaccurate definition and prove it wrong and say 'Viola! the Holiday must be from the Devil!' when in fact they aren't disproving the real meanings at all. OK, done with easter rantBu-By-- <>< Angie
I personally would not go to a JW memorial because I don't follow their 'god' & 'a god' any longer-- I follow the Yahweh of the Bible.

Y R U AVOIDING THIS?
by puzzled ini was just reading moxy's post "biggest mathematical miracle in the world" .
and as i was reading all the logical reasons why it would have been impossible at least physically impossible, for that many israelites not to mention even one, to wonder through the desert 40 years and not leave a trace of their even having been there.. the only thing that seems to be more incredible then that is how many people on earth believe it.
regardless of weather it's true or not what is it that continues to inspire millions and billions of people to continue to believe?

Sorry guys-- I haven't checked on this thread in awhile -- I'm not purposely ignoring you
Rem-- all questions deserve an answer but I can't recall the insect passage you are refering to-- I'll see if insect is in the concordnance. Many of the references are 19th century and later but that does not effect the dating of the evidences uncovered. The world has not always been interested or active in digging up artifacts and studying archeology & anthropology-- They had to start sometime Also, though most of the archeological work has been done in the past 200-300 years we do have ancient historical documents that also verify the existance of some of these evidences they continually find today. For instance there are old historical documents that speak of the sinai inscriptions existing and being seen. The particular book I was refering to is:
The Signature of God by Grant R. Jeffrey and I think you can get it from any book store or BarnesAndNoble.com. I did get mine through a christian book retailer though. It's not my only source but it contains a decently succinct case for evidences. It is written by a christian but the evidences are documented-- I only say that because some people think the christian sources are automatically biased.Other interesting reads are:
Jeffrey has also written a book called the Handwritting of God which is about the Bible codes. Josh McDowell is another good author with a two book set called Evidence that demands a Verdict. That one reads like a legal briefing prepared for the arguement for the God of Christianity. In The Beggining by Walt Brown is also a great evidence read for creationism. -

No Escape from Religion - Am I wrong?
by Perry insince every culture ever studied has been shown to possess religious practices aka.
spirituality, the axiom: "culture doesn't exist apart from religion" would seem to indicate that popular ideas concerning the non-religiosity of athiestic tenets are merely fictional.
i have always been amused by the propaganda the non-deists (and sometimes deists as well) use to spin their ideology.

Hi Perry,
I too have found your thesis to be true for the most part.
Like stated before:
God's existance cannot be disproven by any evidences or logic.
Since there is no evidence against the existance of a deity to conclude that one does not exist is based on personal belief not on factual evidence. Therefore to state that God unequivically does not exist is, in fact, a religious choice-- a religious statement. One can state they don't see any evidence for Gods existance but they cannot cite any evidence against his existance.I personally do know of much evidence for the existence of a deity and more specifically, the God of the Bible. Do not assume, however, that because I do believe in God means I am biased to evidence. Arriving at the conclusion of God's existance is not taken blindly or ignorantly. Belief in God is not independant of truth and evidence but based upon it.

Uhh? Which God's that?
by ozziepost inon the back cover of the april 8 issue of awake!
is a little story about two teenagers 'caught' praying at macdonalds.
apparently the two teenagers felt the need to explain to an onlooker that they were praying to a 'different' god, or in the words of the article "not just any god".. i'm curious, which god was this?

They didn't offer Bibles cuz their 'god' isn't in there, silly!
Their 'god' is in their books but can't be found elsewhere.
At least they didn't claim they were Christians -

Sorry, I happen to be a sunday school teacher and now the song is stuck, thanks!
Anyway,
I believe that our understanding will grow the more we study the Bible and mature in God but the light doesn't change. Whats truth is truth, the end.The problem with the WT is it's their way or no way. It doesn't matter if they are right or wrong because they are God's only channel of truth to this world. Yeah, OK. They won't take scriptural correction, the disfellowshipped over old light issues are still disfellowshipped for disobediance, THEY have to be listened too no matter what they say.
I think if God were really using them as his 'channel of truth' he would know what that truth was and not reveal changes. Their doctrine does not originate from God. Maybe its from prideful men, maybe the devil; whatever; but God does not change so it's best we take our salvation into our own hands and study God's Word. I'm not saying we aren't allowed to make a mistake occassionally but their entire belief system is incorrect and thats not a old light/ new light issue
A light may grow 'brighter', so-to-speak, but it doesn't change from say a light bulb, to a candle, to a flash light, to a camp fire & so on..............
OK, Done.
