Prayers that God answers. Any examples?

when i believed in god i tried not to pray for anything selfish.. after a while i began to think that a lot of things i was asking my imaginary friend in the sky for were selfish for some reason.. i do not ever remember a single thing i prayed for ever being answered.

if there was the appearance of an answer it was because i did mental gymnastics to make it fit the delusion that god had actually answered me.

there was never an obvious message/answer from god.

Yes, I have had prayers answered in concrete, provable uncanny ways, but don't care to discuss it.

The thing is, who knows that God himself answers prayers? Seriously, I don't really know the answers but some speculation or flight of fancy would bring one idea to mind, this is slightly tongue in cheek: perhaps there is someone looking after you, maybe even a staff of people looking after you, in charge of your prayers.

Scenario: you are playing baseball on a team and you pray for your team to win. Someone on the other team prays for his team to win. His staff is bigger and better than your staff, so his team wins. Maybe your staff hates baseball and wishes you did, too, so they make sure your team doesn't win. Maybe your team needs so many votes/prayers in order to act. Maybe the game goes to the team with the majority of people praying for its victory. Maybe your staff is addicted to Candy Crush Saga. A humorous example to show that prayer would not be a simple, you ask for it/you get it. I'm not a Christian. I'm a universalist. Yes, I do pray sometimes. No, I don't have the understanding of prayer that fundamentalist Christians do.

If this dead womans own parents and her loving husband think she should be off life support, how the hell do any of you even feel comfortable giving your opinions? Must be due to years of being told everyone else is wrong, and its up to the small minority with morals to uphold the standard.

You forgot to include the living 21 week old fetus here. Why are you bringing morals into this argument? There is a law in Texas, and possibly others of the 50 states, which states that if a woman is pregnant, deceased, but her fetus is not deceased, the rights of the fetus over ride the rights of the deceased woman and probably in this case, the wishes of the spouse and family. Who is discussing morals? This is the law. I'd like to know how many other states and countries have similar laws.

Nicely done FHN. You derailed the argument into an unrelated appeal to emotion, the very thing of which you accused me.

Where did I accuse you of derailing the conversation? And why did you go on, after this comment, with a several paragraph comment, if you are truly indignant? I suggest trying some relaxation techniques, such as breathing exercises, a hunk of dark chocolate, a walk, put on some good music and dance, etc. Works for me when I get worked up. This is a discussion on an internet forum, not a UN policy making conference. To read the emotion you're putting into your comments, one might think you've had a pregnant mate on life support or maybe you have an anxiety disorder or something. Calm down, please. It's easier to take you seriously when you don't sound irate.

i am just wondering about all of you who have been on this site for long.

in all of the events that have happened since 2000 (for example, september 11th), have you at any point, even you die-hard apostates, felt like "oooh sh!t... i should go back to the kh"... just to have the world survive the latest disaster?.

what was the worst event for you, in terms of saying... "did i mess up???

I haven't worried about the big A since the very early 90s. Even then, I felt like Jehovah didn't deserve to be served, so the big A was worth freedom and happiness. By the time I found JWD, I knew the WTBTS was false in its claim to be God's org.

No. Fathers do not have the right to decide whether a mother carries a baby to term or not.

She cannot share in the wonder of the cycle of life, and your sharing the joys of motherhood in a thread about a deceased women is rather insensitive.

Oh jeez, did you ever take that out of context. We were discussing how this mother would feel is she was living. Adam, I'm beginning to see some genuine wisecracker in you. Something you might consider doing, trying, though I assume you are a man, is trying to be empathetic. Yes, this mother is deceased, so she cannot answer for herself. This doesn't mean that if she could speak for herself, she would pull the plug on the baby she wanted before she had her embolism. For most of us mothers posting here on this thread, those of us who wanted our babies, we can tell you that we'd do anything to save our babies' lives, including be on life support to continue the pregnancy. We wouldn't walk around calling them fetuses and saying, "Well, if I'm brain dead, but my fetus still has a heartbeat and continues to thrive, pull the plug anyway. Clearly your feelings are more important than the fetus."

FHN I wish this forum had a LIKE button next to posts. I would so LIKE your post. I have been pg 3 times, 2 live births one miscarriage at 3 months. It is a baby from the moment you suspect you may be pg. It has life . I was devastated at the loss of my baby. It looked human and was human.

Are you sure you you didn't have any fetus showers or register your fetus with Macy', Target and Kohl's? We know the scientific name for various stage pregnancies, this is true, but I don't remember anyone telling me she was expecting an embryo, or how far along her fetus was. I'm doubting this Texas mother called her baby a fetus either, unless she was getting technical with someone. My doctors called my embryos and fetuses babies. "Heather, your baby is the size of a poppy seed, but by the end of the month it will equal two sesame seeds, end to end." "Can you feel your baby's kicks yet?" "Your baby is due March 4th, calculated by your last period." This, on the other hand, IS an appeal the emotion. Fetus is the scientific term, regardless of what the hypothetically alive mother would call it. And I can't even hazard a guess as to why you think it relevant to the discussion.

I don't know if you've been pregnant, but expectant mothers call their babies, baby. They don't say things like, "Oh, I went to the doctor today and the fetus now is probably 2 pounds and has a very healthy heart beat." Or "Oh, the fetus kicked! Come here, see if you can feel the fetus." Or, "We decided to paint the fetus' nursery today." Expectant mothers who want their babies, call them baby.

At 10:40 begins speaking about propaganda which is so reminiscent of the false facade that the WTBTS presents to its members and especially to the outside world. More and more N. Koreans wake up to the false N. Korea presented on state TV. We only hope that millions will wake up to the false WT society and organization that is fed to JWs and beyond.

I'm watching this again. Something else that strikes me: the need to put on a false facade to N. Koreans, as well as the rest of the world.
