How to Avoid the Faithless Spirit of most here-
by DocHouse in1- pray to god (whomever you may imagine him to be) asking for understanding.
2- study the background about the bible (from non-religious sources) to see where it came from.
3- discard (or at least set aside) chuyrch claims and dogma.. 4- read it, looking up archaeological/historical sources about the places and peoples referred to.

One of the best threads ever! Thanks to the OP
It's been good reading everyone's lists and comments.
Yes, amongst the MANY things that made me wake up was the constant jabbering about "jehovahs's united people etc"
What they meant was:
we expect UNIFORMITY which is different to UNITY!
I remember being so impressed with the scripture they used to support this: "Fitly united in one line of thought." It's profound of you to realize how this entrapped us. When they brag about this scripture, a new person doesn't understand that someday, he or she may be kicked out and shunned over the most innocent questions and doubts.

Funny jokes, guys.
From an old Slappy White record:
A lady goes into the doctor and pleads for help: "Doctor, doctor, every time I drink, I want to make passionate love." The doctor, not missing a beat, "Well, let's sit down, have a drink and talk it overrr."

I now have a law degree!
by digderidoo inhi guys, i don't really post on here much anymore, having been on here since 2001. this site helped me out in the early days and has been a great support system for all of my past jw issues.
like many others i was discouraged from an education so that i could window clean and pioneer in my youth during the 80's.
having spent many years post my jw exit in alcoholism and periods of drugs, i decided to clean myself up 7 years ago by attending aa, i was still a window cleaner ... at the time i wrote extensively on here about my issues.

I had an encounter today...
by lriddle80 inso, i had an unexpected encounter with a jw today.
she was the caregiver who came to work to relieve me and she pulled out a jw.org tract and i told her i knew all about it because my family were part of it and i see it everywhere on their fb.
i, without thinking about the consequences, told her that i used to be one and now go to a baptist church.

I don't tell JWs I used to be one. I truthfully tell them that I have family members who are JWs. I don't argue with them. There is a pioneer couple that comes into where I work. They smile when they see me. They have a good level of comfort with me. They will talk to me and ask me questions. They don't feel threatened by me because they don't know I ever studied or was baptized. I have empathy for them because I once stood where they stand. I see the human side of it all. If they ask me questions, I give them well thought out answers. Hopefully they will think about the answers.

I've been getting a huge kick out of Second City Network's you tube videos. The Sassy Gay Friend videos are very funny.
Here's one for starters:

I'm not so knowledgeable. I just learn things through personal experience and then like you, researching remedies for problems I have with Windows or my PC.

My computer had to be rebooted and I lost all of the notes about about previous lists. I am reading every list. Some of the things are things I didn't think of while I was in. Some of the things on your lists, I did. My heart brims with empathy for everyone of you.
Like I mentioned earlier, I have never posted my story here on JWN. Some of my experiences while in the JWs are too painful to revisit. It's easier to accept that they happened and then rarely think about them. Some of it I've mentioned here and there on different topics. I'm just so glad to have waked up and left. I have my doubts that my health could have survived staying in.

The suicide of a brother in our KH who had been counseled and threatened with DFing. He left behind a young wife and three children.
This is so sad. How many of us know JWs who took their own lives over disfellowshipping?

FliyingHighNow - I couldnt help but notice how many of yours had to do with people being treated so wrongly. That is/was my eye opener also.
Yes, the more mistreatment we saw, the more our eyes were opened.
When he decided that he was going to.put that aside and become a typical jw chauvinist my-oh-my did things REALLY start falling apart. That's part of the reason we are now divorced!
The governing body has a lot to answer for. My marriage ended up a disaster, too.
