This is a happy result from that terrible day. Did you and your wife manage to find a bridge back to each other?

After 52 years a Watchtower slave 9/11 gave me the push I needed to get out.
by new boy ini turned in my letter of disassociation on september 18, 2001 but it was 9/11 that showed me what the witnesses really feel about human lives and the future wished for.. i was in limbo after my wife of 27 years left me on july 30, 2001. she knew i wasn't buying the jw program anymore.
she told me she come back to me when "i got my head straighten out about god and the church".. so for 40 days i was in limbo.
i stopped going to meetings.

The music that moves you....
by FlyingHighNow inonce when i was profoundly sad for too many days, my brother in law sent us a mix tape.
he named each song after a person in our family.
this is the one he named heather.

My friend John, a member here, or at least he was, shared this beautifully dark and moving song with me one night when I was deeply sad. The singer songwriter Nick Drake died quite young from an over dose of anti depressants (at 26.) The video contains footage from family movies when Nick was a child. Read about Nick here.

Do you have / admire Charisma?
by The Rebel in"charisma is a certain quality of an individual personality by virtue of which the person is set apart from ordinary people and treated as exceptional".
as a kid i was afraid of such charisma, as it was usually the quality i noticed elders, head masters, and parents had to exercise with unloving authority over me.. but now i think about it "charisma" doesn't need be only for people with authority.
" charisma" is something even we can have?

You do realize that the wrapping on products can serve to attract (as in "magnetic") consumer's attention, right?
Yes of course. It's a natural phenomenon. A lot of people that have it don't know they have it. I think you are saying that a person may be magnetic, but magnetic only means magnetic, the true essence of the person is something you find as you get to know the person.

Yes I have. I nearly choked on my tea when I read the following..
That doesn't surprise me.
You said:
"This whole thread sounds very self-indulgent."
That's why I said, "ou haven't read the thread." And I still say you haven't truly read, as in read and comprehended what you read, the thread if you think the "whole thread" is very self indulgent. It would be great to see your answers to the questions posed by the OP. -

Sales people, actors, people in marketing, motivational speakers, some clergyman, singers, musicians, comedians, most of them have charisma or magnetism. It isn't an accomplishment, it's a quality a person has or doesn't have. It's a good quality to have if you work in certain fields like teaching or the ones mentioned above.

I was suggesting that charisma is an attractive quality that "dresses up" your message but at the end of the day it is the substance of the message that is important and we should focus on the substance of the message and not be distracted by a speaker's charisma lest we swallow a figurative turd because of being distracted by the shiny wrapping that is charisma.
I've never thought of charisma as a message, but more of a kind of magnetic quality. -

Origin of Life
by cofty inin recent years significant progress has been made in solving the question of how life originated on our planet.. how do you think theists will respond when it finally happens?
as a former christian i know my reaction would have been something like "well that just goes to show that it takes intelligent life to make life", but for two reasons that defense doesn't work.. firstly it would prove that life is not an ethereal force that originates with god.
there is no 'ghost in the machine', no elan vital.

Life on Mars would not rule out the existence of an intelligent god, gods or goddesses - FHN
New life in the lab would make her redundant as a source of life. That would be a huge challenge for theism.- Cofty
It could mean that homo sapiens are very capable, intelligent beings. Which would just make intelligent god, gods or goddesses, if they are behind homo sapiens, even more impressive. I don't understand how it would make god, gods or goddesses redundant. Sparking new life in a laboratory just proves intelligent beings can spark new life. God, gods or goddesses are simply different kinds of intelligent beings. -

Not sad--no really.
Mars may have life on it. Bacterial life. Images from a satellite above Mars excited people when they showed dark moving patches. If there is liquid on Mars, and it contains bacterial life, how will the Theists explain it away?
It's possible you mean to say -some Christians-, rather than theists? People who believe in some kind of intelligent god or gods or goddesses are not all Christians or typical in their beliefs. Life on Mars would not rule out the existence of an intelligent god, gods or goddesses. Life on Mars would mean there is life on Mars. -

Charisma is just a pretty wrapping. A pretty wrapping can house a chocolate bar or a turd.
I can't agree that charisma is a pretty wrapping. People with charisma have a strong electricity to them comes from deep with in. They are not always physically attractive.
