At 52 your life is not over. I am 56 and my life is not over. Your husband can't keep you from doing nice things for people if you can use all your faculties and drive a car. You can be charming and pleasant, while being assertive.

can an unhappy married woman vent?
by sowhatnow ini continue to be saddened by the fact that i am married to such a selfish man.. i want to know if i am the only wife who has no say when it comes to using the house she lives in for activities including other people.. .
let me explain.. yesterday my daugher who is 35 got a new puppy for my grandaughter who is 13. today my daughter and son in law are going to help my uncle at a job, and my granddaughter wanted to spend the day here, my daugher said shed bring her and the puppy over, i laughed and said 'your dad wont have that, ill have to go to your house'.. after all it will 'upset' the 2 cats they will hide all day [like they do anytime someone including my grandchild is in my home] .. i already knew that he would not like it if she brought the puppy over, [weve had dogs so its not like he hates them].
he doesnt care if his grandaughter would have enjoyed playing with the puppy over grandmas house, where she likes to be for a change, and that fact that id like to see what my cats would do when they saw a dog for the first time in thier lives.. maybe id have liked to play with the puppy .. when i said to my husband that my daughter said she wanted tp bring them over he said.

well , now im going to be out of his hair so he can drink his beer in the house instead of out in the garage. and watch his rated R man movies.
Sounds here like he doesn't drink beer in the house when you are there, but rather he drinks in the garage. Sounds here like he doesn't watch his rated R man movies when you are home. Sounds to me like you do get your way some of the time.

Hello, Stilla. Checked in and found your thread. I go weeks without posting. So many of the originals and earlier posters are gone now. I miss the excitement of the older times when JWD was really hopping. Good to bump into you here. I see you on facebook, so I had no idea you hadn't posted here for two years. Grand to hear you are doing less at the KH. Big hugs to one of my favorite posters.

Ongoing frustration with wife
by Flipping El ini've tried taking the slow, patient approach with my wife.
i believe i first posted here about 13 months ago about my wife.. we've always had good communication and could talk endlessly about philosophy, neuroscience, sociology and then when i learned the ttatt, i clammed up a bit about spiritual things.
i'd always been fairly liberal, suggesting other alternative ideas, but then i told my wife about the un/ngo scandal (i ran across the guardian story doing a talk as an ms, lol!

She may be afraid, but Oubliette is right, it is not okay for her to play games and nag you. I'd tell her how this is making you feel and tell her you expect to discuss it and begin solving it now or within the next day or so.

Ask her if she loves you and wants to stay married to you. Ask her if it bothers her, the thought of losing you, when she brings up divorce. Ask her if she can really handle the idea of you moving on and eventually ending up with another lady by your side. As for her, is she thinking she will be better off with some new guy by her side? Does she realize the brothers will view her as damaged goods?

I found my dearest jw friend on facebook, who at first thought I was just inactive. She was trying to be encouraging, without being preachy. She told me that so much has changed.

If you have been inactive for over a year can you get disfellowshipped?
by cognac ini've read conflicting things so was hoping to get this clarified.. .

You can be suspected of apostate thinking just by being irregular in meeting attendance, even if you turn in time each month.

As a child, I was stigmatized after we moved to another state, so we had the image of being backward (probably largely because of our dialect) no matter how we really were.
My parents met at Auburn University as students. My mother was born and raised in Atlanta, GA. She told us people would be prejudiced against us and think us stupid, just by hearing our southern accents. She made us pay her nickels from our allowance for things like double negatives and ending a sentence with a preposition and other improper bits of grammar.
As a child I lived first in Mobile, AL where I was born, then cajun country of Louisiana SW of NOLA and then on to Atlanta for jr. high and high school. I've lived many places as an adult. I ended up buying a house in the foothills of the Appalachians, 40 miles north of Atlanta. Most people in our town were educated and refined. We did have some very country folk, too. The thing is, it's a very small minority of families who put their children in pageants. There are redneck, hillbilly families in the area, but even a lot of them are just regular folks who act nothing like the Honey Boo Boo show. You find people just as backward up here in Michigan. When it comes down to the brass tacks, though, most people anywhere you go have average IQs and aren't terribly deep thinkers. As long as people are getting along with each other, who cares? Honey Boo Boo is entertainment.

Now you've got to go to the Goodwill and get a "new" TV.
There might be a camera crew following you in the store.
Oh heck, Gregor, I'll just get one of my boyfriends to buy me new a flat screen.
