I guess we have got what we need to settle the issue as far as the authors are concerned, however the question of possible publisher rights remains somewhat obscure to me (so far): D. Dykstra apparently claims (and obtained in 2015) copyright ownership on Ray's works, not on other Commentary Press publications... (in France we would distinguish between author's and publisher's rights, I have no clue how it works in the U.S. -- not to mention what were the initial contracts, and if the potential rights were transferred to any successor of Commentary Press as the publisher)...

BTTT and something else: any news about C.O. Jonsson would be helpful too. I seem to remember he used to post here once in a while (ten years ago or more); on this Swedish site I read he had been seriously ill in 2015, and couldn't reply to mail. So if anyone knows about him or how to get in touch with him (his French translator obviously cannot), please tell me (here or by pm).

Hello (again) everybody !

I recently heard from someone who has just finished translating Signs of the Last Days, by C.O. Jonsson & W. Herbst (under Commentary Press copyright), into French: he cannot get in touch with either the publisher (or copyright holder) or the authors. He apparently aims at free online publication only but still needs a formal agreement from whoever (if anyone) might be able to grant it...

Since this seems to be the latest thread on this topic, I bring it back to the top, in case anybody might help. If RayPublisher is still around, he or she may pm me...

Thank you all (I indeed skipped "Acts").

Just had a glimpse at Matthew 27:52f to see what the "complete" BS (Bible Study !) would look like; it is more "complete" than what I had seen in 2013 -- even though in a pretty hilarious way in that case: for instance, the two "evidently" of the commentary grammatically destroy each other (a plural verb cannot refer to the plural neutral "bodies", which calls for the singular; a plural verb does refer to the plural neutral "bodies").

Side remark on the other topic: it is indeed quite strange that the Watchtower, which has made so many efforts in the last few years to adapt its texts to various audiences (audio readings, basic-language versions, etc.) is still ignoring the huge inner diversity of languages such as Spanish (think of Argentina, vos querés, etc.) or Portuguese (long time ago I spent a few years in Portuguese congregations in France, where most readers were regularly misguided, puzzled, amused or shocked by Brazilian locutions, words or spellings: that was definitely not their language.)

So only Matthew appears as "final" so far. Where did you get the 27/66 figure then ?

I had interpreted (intuitively) the different shades of blue (not just two) in the Bible books list as distinguishing the different kinds of books (Torah, "historical", "hagiographs", "prophets", "Gospels", "Acts", "epistles", "Revelation"). It may be wrong, but it works... :)

The rest I had seen and understood. I'll still have to watch the video.

P.S.: OK, I get it, it's not the darker blue, it's the "gem" icon... by that standard, only the Gospels appear to be "complete".

Thank you very much for your reply: I had no idea about that -- whence my surprise today, as I found in (what I thought to be) the 2013 edition a whole appendix I hadn't seen 5 years ago.

It would be nice if you (or anyone else) could point me to a WT text indicating the status of the current online Study Bible as a "work in progress" or something like that; and/or information about the progress itself (which books are considered "final" and which aren't), as you seem to know about that. I can't see any hint to that on the web page.

Btw, I would be somehow relieved (in a way) if it appears that the foot- or margin notes apparatus is to be developed further. What I have seen so far is terribly poor compared to the 1984 edition, all the more with the dropping of brackets from the main text.

Hello everybody !

(Long time, I know...)

I have only been aware of the new French TMN (= NWT) release for a few days. I had previously made a few comments on the 2013 NWT here and there (and on the French new version in the last few posts of the latter link; all in French, pardon it).

I have a specific question about the appendix C of the 2013(?) NWT, which (so far) does not exist in the 2018 TMN (it stops at Appendix B). It seems I hadn't seen it in 2013. Does anyone know if it was added later, and when ? (It's impossible to tell from the online texts, which are all copyrighted "2018").

(It's pretty interesting because this appendix offers a number of criteria for inserting "Jehovah" into the NT texts, with examples ranging from Matthew to Acts -- that is, stopping quite conveniently before Romans and the epistles.)

i just happened upon one of his posts, and i realized i hadn't seen him post in over a year.

i really enjoyed his insightful comments and scholarly knowledge.

he and leolaia could always contribute to those difficult biblical questions that really required a knowledge of the languages and history of biblical times.

Thanks for this thread (which a French "lurker" pointed me to yesterday) and the kind comments. I'm OK (nothing terrible has happened), just took a deep deep breath before post # 10,000.

Actually I had felt like quitting for some time before I did (even made a couple of early "goodbye threads," I know I'm not the only one ) and found that "fading" on the silly "round number" did it better in my case than some dramatic farewell. I suppose everyone deals with his addictions as he can.

I don't think I will engage again heavily in forum discussions as I did (finally) get a bit weary of that, but I'm glad to hear from you and wish you all the very best. As slimboyfat knows I have kept his posting history and Leolaia's in my "favorites" and still look these up from time to time to see what is going on.

Was Paul's Primary Language Greek?

on occasion i have been directed to post statements that some of the books of the nt (those by matthew, john, james and jude, including hebrews, which was written by john, not paul) were not originally written in greek, but aramaic.

the reason most believe that greek was in fact the original language of the entire nt is because most of what paul wrote was written in greek; however, this wasn't because paul's primary language was greek; it was because those paul was sent to were primarily "greek-speaking.

Obviously enough, any Spirit going by the name of "JAHESHUA MISCHAJAH" both should and cannot stay clear of linguistics...

What the hades sheol was Paul thinking when he wrote: "the spirits of prophets are subject to the prophets"? (1 Corinthians 14:32)
