Memories of Grace Gough
by Mary inhi everyone;i'm not on here too much anymore, but i've been asked to write a brief biography of our dear grace gough ('mouthy' on here).
i'm writing my own memories of her but it was also suggested that i maybe contact others who knew her to see if they had a nice memory or two of her they'd like to share.
it would only have to be a paragraph or two and your name can be kept confidential if you like.

Is there something about AAWA history or goals I do not know? (Just curious, I haven't been involved)
I've been on the site and other associated contacts and am of the opinion that the gentleman in charge is something of a self-aggrandising individual. Rather like a circus ringmaster. IMHO. A glory seeker.

Jehovah's Witnesses Crime Against Grammar
by Simon inso this is really starting to grate on me the more i think about it because it's just wrong grammatically.. one of my friends always refers to me used to being "a jehovah witness" which used to grate whenever she said it but now it seems more correct.. think about it this way: bruce springsteen has fans.
they are fans of bruce springsteen or, bruce springsteen's fans.
but each of them isn't a bruce springsteen's fan.

Entertainment: What's everybody reading or into right now?
by schnell ini picked up bernard cornwell's the pagan lord at the library.
historical fiction set in england after the death of alfred the great.
i'm loving it, especially the between-the-lines wit and sense of timing in cornwell's writing, and the complete badassery of the protagonist.

Just finished John Grisham's "The Whistler". I've read all his books - I think I now know more about the US legal system than our own.

So, how did the 'beard article' go over yesterday at your congregation?
by neat blue dog inat mine the conductor was somewhat awkward and minimal and there were nervous chuckles from the audience.
two people, including an elder, gave reasonable comments that it's okay as long as it's not extreme styles, etc.
but then another one of the elders commented that nothing has changed and they still aren't proper locally.

Back in the day, when I was but a callow youth, they reckoned that the election of JFK would trigger "great persecution" of JW's on account of him being a Catholic.

My gay friend went back to JWs?
by schnell inone of my best friends was disfellowshipped several years ago, and word quickly got around that it was because he's gay.
we lost touch after that because of the disfellowshipping, but since i'm out now, i just found him online and got back in touch with him.
it was a great conversation, but he said he returned to jehovah.

If a gay person returns to the JWs they are expected to remain celibate. I should imagine they are also watched intently if they speak to anyone in the congregation who are the same sex. How can anyone feel comfortable living like that? xxx
I guess that any single person who's a member of the JW's is expected to remain celibate, hetero or gay.
