I wish I'd known that God wasn't an old man with a long white beard wearing a dressing gown sat on a cloud watching what I did with my genitalia.

What I wish I had known at 18
by NewYork44M inthe financial times had an article with the above question.
the author asked various people to answer the question.. https://www.ft.com/content/169705e4-b4dd-11e8-b3ef-799c8613f4a1.
while i was not interviewed, if i was asked this question i would say that i wish i had known in 1975, when i was 18, that i was raised in a cult and that the continued focus on armageddon over my lifetime was a cruel joke.

What immodest clothing have you got in trouble for wearing?
by Addison0998 ini personally have a very distinct sense of style and fashion which many of the fellow jdubs frown upon.
recently, i was told by a few specially self righteous ones that i looked like a prostitute in a pair of white boots!
a pair of 3 inch heeled, just a little taller than the ankle boots, with skirt that came down to my knees and a black long sleeve shirt that came up to my collarbone.

So weird how the dubbies are obsessed with dress and grooming. It was just the same back in the 60's.

Back in the day, a ladies skirt was only considered acceptable wear if she was to kneel down and the skirt be able to cover all her legs and feet.

He's about to create a new party. The Disney party. A man of the people. More roads, free education, more this, more that. Of course dissent will not be tolerated. Lightweights will be de-selected. Why am I getting warning bells ringing in my noodle?

Unsung Movie Villains
by LoveUniHateExams inwe all know the big movie villains get a lot of credit and appear in multiple movies - the shark in jaws, darth vader, and before them dracula, wolfman, frankenstein's monster, etc.. but there must be plenty of villains that get forgotten.. i thought clarence boddicker (played by kurtwood smith) was fantastic in robocop (1987) - a real psychopath.. another character who springs to mind is vilos cohaagen (ronny cox) in total recall (1990), i thought he was very good too.. obviously these and other movie villains do get some critical acclaim but they don't get their own franchise and they rarely get universal praise.. maybe 'unsung movie villains' is the wrong phrase but hopefully you get what i'm trying to say!

Burt Reynolds - Dead at Age 82 - Rest in Peace
by flipper inhadn't seen a thread started on this so i thought i'd start a tribute thread to one of the great actors / entertainers over the years we've enjoyed watching.
he had a wicked, dry sense of humor, especially on the johnny carson show, great acting in deliverance, so if anybody would like to share stories, you tube snippets of talk show appearances, or pieces from movies- feel free to do so !
rest in peace burt, you brought us some really cool entertainment, thanks for the memories.

Advice on my JW Mother
by InjusticeSystem ini need the advice of those of you who are exjw's on what to do about my still in mother.
briefly, here's the situation: i am a born-in, never got baptised (thank the fsm), became an athiest about 2015 but haven't come out to anyone but my wife and some trusted friends.
my mother was raised in the society and is a true believer, but was never as strict about it as some parents are when i was growing up.

It took me years to realise it, but the only way that I was able to maintain any sort of relationship with my still-in mother was to avoid engaging her directly on any given subject. Any opinion you have on anything will be offset by a WT-imprinted opinion that will be carried by your mother.
Stick with the weather, colour schemes, recipes, anything that's just general chit-chat. In particular, avoid politics, health, disasters, marriage and relationships etc - anything that you suspect will have been covered by a WT article.

Not too badly. A couple of pensions have kicked in via my missus. Although we cashed in one that was paying just £18 a month and realised over £4000 as a result.

Using the handbag in the ministry, she experienced powerful thoughts of "Go home!"
I had thoughts of wanting to go home just about every time I went door knocking! Gawd, how I hated it. When I finally realised that dubbism wasn't the truth, my first few thoughts were how great it was going to be never having to go out in the ministry or attend another meeting again - not ever.

I sent off my application to study Palaeobiology (MSc) at Bristol uni and ...
by LoveUniHateExams in... they've accepted me!
finance is already sorted - they're waiting for me to give them my new student number so that they can start paying me.
just need to formally accept bristol's offer and sort out accommodation.. accommodation should be ok - i've been told priority is given to new students, plus i'm enrolling onto a program for a real degree as a postgraduate - i won't be studying gender studies or some crap like that.
