You have an interesting story Caleb.
And I read some of your other threads, you are very well documented on the Bible.
And you are very good with words, Yours is the longest thread I actually read.
born in cambridge, ma to a liberal couple that escaped the conservative south, my parents raised me better than to become a jehovahs witness.
funny thing was they got mixed up in it first.. while that is a story for another time, i myself had to go along as the third of five children in my family.
dads job transferred him to texas and my mom worked fulltime herself, but eventually we found ourselves drinking the kool-aid of ambiguity intolerance and full-fledge belief that the bible was literal fact and that salvation was found only by those who were smart enough to enter the confines of the watchtower.. its weird how many people claim they fear children raised by two gay parents will grow up to be gay.

i just realized that 99% of jw have the same hope as the "unjust".
they want to live forever in a paradise on earth.
but they say this is also what all the "unjust" people who never knew jehovah will get.
the sad thing is that these people preach the hope of the unjust, and Paul said in Galatians 1:8:
But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let them be under God's curse!
the ancient jews did not believe in an after-life as far as i can tell, correct me if i'm wrong.
the watchtower says yes.
they say all the prophets believed in a paradise earth..
Well, christians will be taken to heaven and be with the Lord forever, so where the Lord will be, there the christians will also be. Jesus said he will come back on earth towards the end of tribulation, for the battle of Armaghedon and to rule on earth for 1000 years.
Guess who is coming back to earth with Jesus - yes, the christians who were raptured before. They will help administer the earth from the earth, during the millennial kingdom.
similar views as those presented here are gaining in popularity in christian circles.

But they say this is also what all the "unjust" people who never knew Jehovah will get. So, the unjust will be resurrected and have eternal live on paradise just like all jw's with an earthly hope???
The only difference is that the unjust will probably attend a bible study a while after they are resurrected.
this would be a good one for jw apologist who scream and panic with anyone who feels the moral direction of the wt publishing company has gone astray.
a comment at the bible highlights last night blew my mind, here is the article that was referenced.
btw this account always bothered me, remember when it was in a drama?
I set my mind to read the new testament as I would read it for the first time. Tried to forget all my preconceived ideas, and when I draw the line I realized that:
- the "the other sheep" are gentiles who accept Jesus
- God did not "steal" / make Jesus's body disappear after his death, nor did Jesus "materialized" in different bodies
- Jesus is not Michael the archangel
- Jesus is definitely not an angel - Hebrews chapter 1&2
- The Jewish people will accept Jesus towards the end
- the new testament is for all Christians
- there is just one christian hope.
breaking news from co!!
according to a reliable source, the co in my area says that jws may have been hearing the phrase, "final push" being used.
what sage advice did this shepherd, duke, and "star" of revelation have to say?
the past five weeks have been perhaps the most painful in my life as a witness.. some months ago a young man (i'd say in his late thirties or early forties) began attending meetings at my kingdom hall.
he had just moved to my area from another state.
he had disassociated himself from his home congregation many years back, when he was 20 years old and going through many of the typical trials and temptations most young men experience.. two of the elders met with him initially, and they later shared the details with the body of elders.
The truth is, they (WT) do not have the truth!. They are spiritually blind and this is reflected in their behavior!
For years I believed they have the truth, but somehow God helped me find this book that opened my eyes: The Christian's Hope: The Anchor of the Soul. There is a free audio online if you want to check it out.
i have been searching pro and anti arguments for trinity, and found out there are anti-trinitarians who believe jesus did not preexist before his human life.
and i am thinking, it kind of makes sense.
what if yahweh created a second adam.
@ millie 210
About the trial and crucifixion - apparently it lasted more than the jw's say. And he was really in the grave 3 days and 3 nights, not 2 nights and one day.

At least what the jw's could have done was to get their timeline right.
I learned more in the last 2-3 months about the Bible than I learned in 12 years of being a jw.
I think they do no real Biblical research. They take for granted what is left from Russel and Rutherford and try to adapt it as they go without real Biblical research.

TheWonderOfYou,
If he was not God he could not save us. A man cant save us, He said " I am the life" , "I am the surrection", " I am the way"
I think it is God who saves us through Jesus Christ. Jesus did not say I am "the Saviour" Jesus' name means Yah is salvation.
If Jesus alone saves us, it is like humans saved themselves. It is God that saves us through His son, Jesus, a man. Jesus is the way to salvation and to resurrection provided by God
A cooperation between God and man / human nature, because of God's grace and wisdom, and in the end humanity is restored to unity with God.
