Charity
by aintenoughwiskey inwe know the wt interpretation of matt 25:40 is support of the anointed.
since most of us here are no longer in that situation, what, if any forms of charity are you involved in?
sorry for the awkward framing of the question, it's not meant to imply atheists, or non-christians are not charitable!

priveledges an extra layer of protection
by aintenoughwiskey ini have noticed when an elder or ms gets in serious trouble, many times it's simply a demotion.
local example.
well liked ms son of a prominent elder/pioneer gets caught doing the dance with no pants with his fiancee.

I normally don't take pleasure in the misfortune of others, but the parents I found particularly smug. Inherited Independent wealth, full time pioneers. Perhaps it's just jealousy on my part? Somehow the picture of them walking in on him, nailing her on the dining room table, bare asses in the air gives me a chuckle. As for how they found out, I have no idea. -

Well liked MS son of a prominent elder/pioneer gets caught doing the dance with no pants with his fiancee. Announcement, so and so is no longer a MS. His parents went to wedding all good. Another elder non-MS son same deal disfellowshipped. Elder dad goes to wedding is deleted as elder. -

No More Money!
by Hold Me-Thrill Me inas of this june (i've already given my may contributions which are substantial) i am no longer giving money to support useless building projects that serve no good purpose.

What a great attitude! Giving to people who actually need it. I still consider myself a Christian and am struggling with ways to express this. The Watchtower view of charity is give us your money and move those mags. As was already mentioned, the lack of transparency, sending brothers to investment seminars, and not wanting directed donations, is a real turn off! -

Paul said NOT to be "Harsh" in Shunning
by FusionTheism inthe apostle paul warned the corinthians not to be too harsh in their shunning of a man who was guilty of sexual immortality / adultery:.
2 co 2:5-11: now if anyone has caused sadness, he has saddened, not me, but all of you to an extentnot to be too harsh in what i say.
this rebuke given by the majority is sufficient for such a man; now you should instead kindly forgive and comfort him, so that he may not be overwhelmed by excessive sadness.

Contemplating the Watchtowers attempt at washing away 100 years of cult stink, I had another thought. The WBT$ could be transitioning from a growth model to a retention model, particularly in 1st world nations. The signs as I see them are:
Growth in western Europe and North America is grinding to a halt, most of the tiny growth they have is from born in's. I would guess if you remove born in's from the numbers, you are looking at a decimal point number. Even the most rabid JW can count and knows when they are wasting their time (ministry). The WT reps comment on a previous thread about getting away from the old foot in the door ministry, could be blamed for the lack of growth. The whole Sophia and Caleb bits are aimed squarely at retention. Post toddler baptism rant by TM3, lock em in before they know what's going on. The asset real estate liquidation, cost slashing, and big cash grab from the congregations could be a way to become 100% self sufficient. All cash requirements coming from investments. Growth is not always good, I think the 3rd world growth is a resource suck for WBT$. They can't keep crying wolf forever, they have to settle in and go mainstream, this IMHO is what we are seeing.

I just checked brands of the world, no Watchtower, but JW.org is there. If someone has the Watchtower and/or Awake they can upload it for all. -

The Conundrum of "Taking the Lead"
by berrygerry infor a borganization that boasts of "happy family life" there is a striking disconnect, particularly post-50's happy days reality.. adherents who were faithful in not pursuing "a career" end up in dead-end jobs.
the wife has been programmed to not work, to not place children in daycare, and to somehow suffer it out financially as a family - while not missing any theocratic event, field service, monetary donations, kh building and maintenance.. the vast majority of elders seem to have a "stepford" wife at home, who has been encouraged by the borg telling her that "jehovah sees" her sacrifice of the time and lifestyle that her family has devoted to the borg.. very often, i have seen wives fed up with the bs and leave their husbands, sometimes their children, and certainly, the borg.. the females that stay seem brainwashed with the indoctrination, and any seeming unhappiness or failure must be the fault of not applying the borg's urgings.. having heard personally, and from others, that family happiness comes from the requirement of the male to "take the lead" lends to an interesting search:.

I agree, the insane "Father knows best" image that the Watchtower corporation puts forth, is so out of touch with reality, is beyond ridiculous. Watchtower images look like a twisted parody. They expect people to live a lifestyle that would require a healthy 6 figure salary, without the tools (education) to do so. Combine that with the pressure of reaching out, maintaining a perfect family image. It's no wonder men are walking or coasting. As for the women, no personal growth, no aspirations beyond raising a family, keeping a tidy home and happy man. What was the unvarnished reality for a post war housewife? Smith, Kline and French, now GlaxoSmithKline were selling boxcars of amphetamines to bored housewives. The Rolling Stones song "Mother's little helper" cements the fact in popular culture.
