The Searcher: The name of Jesus Christ was most definitely to be the focus for Christians - according to the Bible!
Yeah...that is why the word is Christian and not Jehovian
#8 "jehovah's witnesses" is our scriptural name!
jehovah's witnesses are taught (and believe) by their hierarchy in brooklyn that the name of their religion is based on the bible itself.
a little bit of research comprehensively reveals that the statement which was written in isaiah 43:10 about the jewish nation 700 years before christians appeared, has been corruptly and un-scripturally adopted as a "god-given" name.

the answer posted on jw.org: "no.
many millions who lived in centuries past and who weren’t jehovah’s witnesses will have an opportunity for salvation.
additionally, many now living may yet begin to serve god, and they too will gain salvation.
punkie: what a crock! they are the most judgmental schnooks in the world.
Yeah. Didn't the bunker video shown at the conventions this summer have a line in it that said their 'message' was changed to one of "judgement"?
And about being 'saved' at the end/Armageddon....don't forget that the "end" is followed by a resurrection of a whole bunch of people (who get judged), 1000 years of GT...and then...the "real" end comes where everybody who is bad gets thrown in the eternal lake of fire with Satan
Nah...not judgmental at all
would a brother who is an elder or ministerial servant be looked down upon or ostracized for endeavoring into high education?.
the reason i am asking this question is because i know of a ms who went to and graduated college (us) with a masters in science and engineering.
he also taught these subjects at an adult education program.
stuckinarut: But of course the hypocrisy and irony is that bethel keeps asking for any with university qualifications to go and serve them! Ones such as doctors, dentists, lawyers etc all have to attend university right?
Exactly. You have stumbled upon the unspoken WTS formula for success.
A higher education within the org is perfectly acceptable. You just have to learn which professions are desirable - which professions benefit the org. An education in the medical field is desirable - provided you pursue either a career within the blood management field or within a healing profession such as chiropractor. An education within law is good - provided you come from an established JW law family or at least have the financial backing to do so.
As long as your educational goals fit within the framework of the WTS' goals, your education will be well supported. Especially if it is greased with the green oil of WTS donations.
There is a definite social strata that exists within the org with a layer of educated JWs (wealthy and/or potential to earn wealth) who are essential to the running of the org. Many of these educated and wealthy WTS donors belong to the medical profession.
your qualifications are way above mine so i'd love to hear more about the specifics of what you have researched and how that supports the existence of a deity.
k99, i am not really convinced that you're interested in my conclusions.

The OP reminds me of the old fable of the blind men and the elephant.
It really is remarkable..."there is this little thingie inside another thingie that I can't explain. But...I do know a lot about the thingie. I conclude that I know why I can't explain the little thingie...other than talk about the thinigies I do know a little wee bit about. Therefore....God."

Kate: How can I help to convert others to Atheism?
Don't say anything at all
Atheism does not require conversion
It requires rational thought

i'm new here; one of my relatives was a member on this forum a few years ago and told me about it.
anyways, as a sister who has been in the org since childhood and now in her late 40's (plus as a woman of color), i have noticed that a number of brothers have an ageist attitude.
they are very accepting of young women under 26 and rejecting women over that age, particularly those in their 30's and over.. is this an unspoken mindset from wthq (specifically from bethel), or is it that quite a number of males (sorry, i'm not sexist here) have this type of mentality?
HiddlesWife: This has been one of many aspects of discouragement for me in the Org
Good.
It should be
Women have the least power in the JW cult. That is why there is such a disportionate number of women who stay in...they are stripped of their power to the point that they remain perpetual captives. When you clip the wings of a bird, they can no longer fly

oneeyedjoe: It's probably not coming from watchtower specifically but any time you put yourself in a male-dominant authoritarian cult, you're probably going to find that women are viewed more as a commodity than for the person that they are (especially since they're not really allowed to express who they are and are instead required to be subservient) which will tend to favor younger women.
You are right.
The phenomena is a reflection of the male power position. The males have all the power in the JW cult and the women are objects to be possessed. By selecting and choosing "breeding age" women, favoring the sexually available and attractive woman, the men have defined sexuality as their priority and main focus. You could speculate that the average male JW is rather low on the evolutionary scale...they have not progressed past the point of living only within their animal nature
now the majority of people nowadays do no go by the hope of old times.
now the reason for this is important and goes beyond mere words.
our culture sees ethics especially national or civil politics as the rules and standards by which we guide ourselves.
Brokeback: I personally found no substance to the first couple of lines of the opening post and would not waste my time further by reading any more.
