I conclude evolution is guided
by KateWild inyour qualifications are way above mine so i'd love to hear more about the specifics of what you have researched and how that supports the existence of a deity.
k99, i am not really convinced that you're interested in my conclusions.

nowwhat: If I'm not mistaken, earlier this the property was expected to bring in close to a billion
Yes, but that was when the deal was to include another site besides the headquarters.
The 85 Jay Street deal is yet to be closed
http://ny.curbed.com/2016/8/4/12375806/brooklyn-heights-jehovahs-witness-watchtower-sale
For months there have been rumors that Kushner and LIVWRK would scoop up the headquarters, alongside a developable site at 85 Jay Street, for as much as $700 million. (The partnership was also supposed to include Aby Rosen's RFR Holdings but TRD hears that he is no longer involved.) While the team paid $340 million for the headquarters, they have yet to close on the 35,000-square-foot site at 85 Jay. That is likely to bring in big bucks: the parcel comes with 1.1 million square feet of as-of development rights, meaning they could build something like the supertall towers of 57th Street without a formal approval process.

How to argue with a JW who says the org never said the end in 75
by dogon ini have argued with several jws who are now being trained to deny the org ever said the end in 75, what is your approach?.

I was there. In the pre-75 JW world.
I clearly remember reading these 3 Awake! magazines - Oct 8, 1966; January 8, 1968; October 8, 1968:
download options from archive.org
aka "everything you wanted to know about 1975 but were afraid to ask"
aka "blueprint for f***ing up a whole lot of people's lives"
The Awake articles were only one of the many propaganda venues that the WTS used to ramp up the fear level

There is a new letter to elders about Child Abuse

JWgonebad: Wow!
For as long as I can remember, the sole purpose or one of the main reasons for the 'Do Not Call' section on the reverse of congregation territory cards was to honor and respect the wishes of homeowners in the territory by writing down a homeowner's address who simply doesn't want to be bothered by Jehovah's Witnesses when working in their neighborhood.
According to items #22 & #23 of this letter WT wants congregations to automatically extend this same courtesy to known pedophiles and child molesters. Just Wow!That is the part of the letter that really stood out to me.
The letter describes the process that the secular world takes with confirmed pedophiles and rapists. The secular world warns the community that the offender is present within. So that the community can take appropriate steps to protect themselves.
Contrast that to how the JWs handle confirmed offenders. Firstly, they toss them out into the larger community with no warning system in place. AND...they don't even tell the JW community why they are tossing him/her out. And...then, if they deem the offender 'repentant' enough, they re-install him/her back into the JW community...again...with NO warning.
The WTS has NO regard for safety. Not within the JW community or within the larger community that they exist.
No respect whatsoever.
Yeah..."do not call" on homes identified by secular authorities as being dangerous...but send confirmed offenders door to door or re-install them as 'shepherds of the flock'

"Belief" and "Faith" are Simply Emotional Terms for Ideas and Opinions (long post)
by xjwsrock inthis is my current bottom-line conclusion after starting to see through the jw game 3 to 4 years ago and going through my own process of waking up.
it helps to write it down and put it "out there".
i hope it helps or resonates with you in your own personal process.. basically if i were given 10 seconds to say something to an active jehovah's witness that i cared about it would be the headline above.

23. Notification by Secular Authorities: From time to time, secular authorities may in-form the elders that a sex offender is living in the area. The notice may provide the address of the individual and may state the nature of his criminal activity. In such a case, the elders should list that address on the appropriate congregation territory card as a “Do Not Call.”
Right. The "at large" offenders in the community are "Do Not Call"...at the very same time that some of those going door to door are offenders themselves.And...the congregation gets a warning from secular authorities. BUT...the community gets no warning whatsoever if the offender is a JW. Even if the offender is disfellowshipped, no warning to the community.
Why? Well, because the WTS has yet to call child abuse a crime. They still call it a sin. Unless, of course, it is somebody that isn't a JW...then they will put them on a "Do Not Call" list.

What the Org Teaches #8 "Jehovah's Witnesses" is Our Scriptural Name!
by The Searcher in#8 "jehovah's witnesses" is our scriptural name!
jehovah's witnesses are taught (and believe) by their hierarchy in brooklyn that the name of their religion is based on the bible itself.
a little bit of research comprehensively reveals that the statement which was written in isaiah 43:10 about the jewish nation 700 years before christians appeared, has been corruptly and un-scripturally adopted as a "god-given" name.

The Searcher: The name of Jesus Christ was most definitely to be the focus for Christians - according to the Bible!
Yeah...that is why the word is Christian and not Jehovian

Do JWs believe they will be the only people saved at the "end"?
by LaurenM inthe answer posted on jw.org: "no.
many millions who lived in centuries past and who weren’t jehovah’s witnesses will have an opportunity for salvation.
additionally, many now living may yet begin to serve god, and they too will gain salvation.

punkie: what a crock! they are the most judgmental schnooks in the world.
Yeah. Didn't the bunker video shown at the conventions this summer have a line in it that said their 'message' was changed to one of "judgement"?
And about being 'saved' at the end/Armageddon....don't forget that the "end" is followed by a resurrection of a whole bunch of people (who get judged), 1000 years of GT...and then...the "real" end comes where everybody who is bad gets thrown in the eternal lake of fire with Satan
Nah...not judgmental at all

Elders/MSs and Higher Education
by HiddlesWife inwould a brother who is an elder or ministerial servant be looked down upon or ostracized for endeavoring into high education?.
the reason i am asking this question is because i know of a ms who went to and graduated college (us) with a masters in science and engineering.
he also taught these subjects at an adult education program.

stuckinarut: But of course the hypocrisy and irony is that bethel keeps asking for any with university qualifications to go and serve them! Ones such as doctors, dentists, lawyers etc all have to attend university right?
Exactly. You have stumbled upon the unspoken WTS formula for success.
A higher education within the org is perfectly acceptable. You just have to learn which professions are desirable - which professions benefit the org. An education in the medical field is desirable - provided you pursue either a career within the blood management field or within a healing profession such as chiropractor. An education within law is good - provided you come from an established JW law family or at least have the financial backing to do so.
As long as your educational goals fit within the framework of the WTS' goals, your education will be well supported. Especially if it is greased with the green oil of WTS donations.
There is a definite social strata that exists within the org with a layer of educated JWs (wealthy and/or potential to earn wealth) who are essential to the running of the org. Many of these educated and wealthy WTS donors belong to the medical profession.
