Had a operation today and was asked about blood transfusions.

operation was successful only minor but some interesting information was revealed to me from the surgeon.l requested that they treat me as if l was a jehovahs witness with regards to blood transfusions.the doctor said well that varies from jw to jw and l asked what do you mean?his response was that in his dealings with jw's was that approx half of witnesses will accept a blood transfusion in life threatening circumstances and sign a form saying so.l was blown away when he told me this.l was curious if others in here have heard similar storys.lt seems to me that many witnesses have weakened their stance on this controversial subject.

DesirousofChange, I understand what it is that you are saying.

However, the starting position of the attitude that "doctors are more careful" when there isn't blood, is what I am challenging.

Saying such a statement doesn't take into account the reality of the situation.

Consider it from this use of an "illustration". (haha!)

Think of the surgical experience as an act where the surgeon and his medical team are being asked to walk on a tightrope across a deep ravine, holding the patient. In the surgery, the blood is the safety net under that tightrope. By refusing blood, the patient is not forcing the doctors "to be more careful", they are putting extreme pressure on the team to do their job...without a safety net.

That "extra carefulness" is just a weasel phrase for "create extreme anxiety in the medical team".

What sticks in my craw about that statement - "doctors are more careful" - is that doctors (good ones...there are 'bad' doctors...) are always careful. With or without blood. Without blood, they are being asked to perform a procedure without a vital tool in their toolkit.

And the JWs lap it up - they are led to believe that they are "special", that they are "elite" and that their refusal of blood (a safety net across that ravine that the doctors have to walk) is what will force the doctors to perform better...just because they are JWs who refuse to let the doctors do their job with the tools they have available. It is this misguided notion that the patient can force the doctor to perform better by simply taking his safety net away.

Yup...here ya go, doc...take that patient across that ravine...but don't look down, there isn't anything between you and that dark chasm that yawns below your feet.

Sure....that will make the doctor be "more careful."

atomat: And yes your right doctors do take extra care to be careful when they know.

Please, if you don't mind, explain these statements.

I hear these type of statements over and over again - from WT people and JWs.

Please back your statements up with more than just the propaganda you have been fed.

These statements are very misleading and are incredibly insulting to doctors everywhere who do not belong to the WT's bloodless cult.

Where did you get these ideas from?? Are they justified with evidence, or do your attitudes and beliefs stem from the WT propaganda that promotes their brand of medicine (alternative...osteopathic and chiro, etc...) and challenges the AMA (allopathic) doctors whenever they can?

The King James version has a lot of unicorns in it.

Numbers 23:22 - God brought them out of Egypt; he hath as it were the strength of an unicorn.

Numbers 24:8 - God brought him forth out of Egypt; he hath as it were the strength of an unicorn: he shall eat up the nations his enemies, and shall break their bones, and pierce them through with his arrows.

Deuteronomy 33:17 - His glory is like the firstling of his bullock, and his horns are like the horns of unicorns: with them he shall push the people together to the ends of the earth: and they are the ten thousands of Ephraim, and they are the thousands of Manasseh.

Job 39:9 - Will the unicorn be willing to serve thee, or abide by thy crib?

Job 39:10 - Canst thou bind the unicorn with his band in the furrow? or will he harrow the valleys after thee?

Psalm 22:21 - Save me from the lion's mouth: for thou hast heard me from the horns of the unicorns.

Psalm 29:6 - He maketh them also to skip like a calf; Lebanon and Sirion like a young unicorn.

Psalm 92:10 - But my horn shalt thou exalt like the horn of an unicorn: I shall be anointed with fresh oil.

I don't know if any other versions of the bible have unicorns. Once I found the unicorns in the King James version, it is the only version of the bible I use. I like unicorns. They're cool.

talesin: Nunavut is the new destination for 'need is greater's ? What are they thinking, those poor, brainwashed suckers. At 17, I thought Moncton was cold and dreary, and after one winter there, became a mentally diseased apostate. Going to the land of the midnight sun to preach? It boggles the mind.

I think the Nunavut escapade is related to all the money and political influence that is available for language revitalization and literacy programs. It would not surprise me one little bit if the WT gets government grant money to produce and distribute literature in aboriginal languages.

And about the GB visiting Canada...was it not Fred Franz who gave the key note talk at the "Peace on Earth" assembly in Vancouver in 1969? The "stay alive til 75" talk? Or something like that?

so even though i don't drive much because public transit is so good where i live (and parking is a living nightmare), i always had a paper taped onto my glove box that said "no blood transfusions - jehovahs witness.

see legal documentation in wallet.

going through this "wake up" process as been a very crazy, emotional experience.

steph: So as of 5 minutes ago, I pulled that paper out of my car and threw it in the garbage. I no longer carry the blood card either. It's a very strange feeling right now.

I imagine you do feel strange - you no longer have a "blood identity".

The noblood card is like an identity card - it identifies you as rejecting blood ties to a larger community. The noblood card identifies you as belonging to a rare blood group - a blood group that has DIE written all over it.

Well....welcome to the real world, Steph. The world where lives DO matter and where blood can be used to save and improve lives.

*to add - this is a huge step, Steph, and one that is critical for deprogramming from cult thinking. So many people are able to reject the WT doctrine on pretty much everything except the blood issue. And why??? If the WTS will lie about the Bible, why would they tell the truth about no blood??
