Update to UK “Child Safeguarding Policy”
by wifibandit ina known poster on this site (anon) says:.
i have just received a text from an elder i've known for decades in my circuit who has some sympathy for my feelings and who is aware of the arc, the uk charity commission, etc., etc.
here it is verbatim, and my reply.

richard: This document will either be accepted by the UK Charity Commission as assuring them that the matter will be handled better or they will enter into more negotiations with UK Watchtower to make more changes. Either the Charity Commission will either be satisfied with this and end at least a portion of their investigation or will reject it and continue on with their investigation in full. This will probably also be used in Australia to show the ARC the changes they are planning on making to their policy. And again the ARC will either accept it or reject it and continue with negotiations.
That is profound

Real Estate Business?
by no-zombie ini was going over some of the older posts of others and without starting some kind of flame war, i got no idea why people are saying that the society is some kind of real estate business.
of course its making millions of dollars in its real estate sales but this a one time event.
its down sizing by selling the furniture.

I have been thinking about this thread and the claim that the WTS is selling and not buying.
For everyone on this thread who has claimed that the WTS is not buying property, how do you know this?
Couldn't the WTS be buying up prime property in selected areas of the world and not be telling anyone? It wouldn't be hard to do. Just pick up sweet pieces scattered around the world and sit on them. Land is valuable. The money is getting dumped somewhere.

Lorenz Reibling (known as Brother Reibling to some...) - owner of Taurus Investments* - spoke in Munich, Germany October 2016.
*Taurus Investments bought property from the WT - story here:
http://50.56.218.160/archive/category.php?category_id=5&id=23669
It seems like Reibling has been spending most of his time in Germany these past couple years. He is linked to Refire - German Real Estate Finance. The editor of Refire magazine, Charles Kingston, spoke of Reibling in his December 24, 2016 editorial:
Die Gedanken sind frei, wer kann sie erraten…?
One of the perks of editing a publication like REFIRE is the opportunity it affords your editor to hang out with people who have an uncluttered view of the future. Their relationship with their crystal ball, tea leaves, tarot cards, goats' entrails or other favoured form of divination helps them steer an unerring path through the most turbulent cross winds, knowing what's likely to emerge on the other side.
Here's a recent case in point. During the liveliest panel discussion at the Expo Real trade fair in Munich in October, Professor Lorenz Reibling of Taurus Investment weighed up the merits of Donald Trump as presidential candidate in the forthcoming elections, versus his rival Hillary Clinton.
The charismatic Reibling, a German who has built Taurus into a global real estate powerhouse from its Boston headquarters, with offices around the world, referred to Trump's history as a real estate man, "as against a cowboy running for president, of whom there normally are no shortage compared to real estate guys." Without expressing a preference for either candidate, he did realistically assess Trump's chances of winning – when, it will be remembered, most observers in Europe had already written Trump off.
If he did win, Reibling said, the first thing Trump's going to do is lower corporate taxes aggressively, in the manner of Ireland, to attract and retain American manufacturing on home soil. The stock market will embark on a spectacular rise as companies gear up for a home-grown expansion. With a rise of more than 1,000 points since then, the Dow Jones looks like it's already started.
Kingston goes on to discuss another panel participant's remarks and then he speaks of Reibling again:
In real estate, the next eruption is not around the immediate corner, and there may be three to four more good years ahead – but at some point these good times are over, and investors will need a new plan. Start preparing, says the guru.
This is where Reibling agreed – we are all being forced, through lack of realistic alternatives, to take investment decisions that we otherwise might not take. The world economy is on life support, and has been since the onset of the financial crisis nearly a decade ago. We can't tell when somebody will pull the plug on the life-support machine - but they will, and soon-ish.
Like Dr. Otte, Reibling believes that when that moment comes, we're still better off in hard assets like real estate than just having cash in the bank. If companies like his can't hold out prospects of lucrative profits to their investors, they can at least argue for the wealth-preservation characteristics of real estate over the near future.

richard: To illustrate there is a circuit appeals court case of the Taco Bell Chihuahua, where both the district court and circuit court ruled, that the actual character could not be copyrighted according to 17 U.S.. 301 section 102 and 103, because the actual character is not original or novel.
The creators of the Taco dog character received 30 million for their creation of that character.

Honest Questions About Child Abuse
by Richard Oliver ini have two honest questions for everyone here.
i understand that most here want retribution from the courts against watchtower for child abuse allegations.
but let us take away the instances where someone was accused of child abuse and then later put back into a position of authority, such as an elder or an ms. let us just take the cases where a regular publisher or even an appointed person, with no previous accusation of child abuse has come up against that person.

richard: Let's face it, a lot of people on here wouldn't be happy unless Watchtower is ended. So you have to ask yourself are you more concerned with if Watchtower is in existence or not or the protection of children. Honestly, I think if a lot of people on here actually thought about it, it would be the former rather than the later.
Why does that matter to you?
Why? What is it that bothers you about that?

If the WT is a "money making machine"...who gets the money?
by NikL ini've seen claims over the years that wt is in the real estate, book publishing business and is a for profit enterprise at it's core.. can those of you that believe this to be the case tell me who benefits from all this wealth?.
the governing body lives in relatively humble conditions no?.
i've been curious about this for a while.

Em1913...good background information.
The myth of the "poor Pastor", et al, has been circulated for so long that people just accept it.
And don't forget the gold mine. The one that Rutherford used to finance the 1919 "chosen by Jesus" fiasco.

careful: The story of that conversion is evidently told somewhere between p. 327 and 375 as those pages are missing in the preview.
Careful, I think the search terms determine which pages are dropped out of the preview.
I did a search for "Jehovah" in the same book and came up with the missing pages concerning his conversion to the JWs.
I don't see this book as becoming a problem for the org - parts of it reads like a JW sermon. Good advertising. But probably a load of crap - why would anyone believe a gangster?
I think it is a kind of promo book for the JWs - "even bad guys can become good!"
Eh...the JWs will probably make sure there are copies placed in all the prison libraries.

ds: Interesting? WT picks up on the decreasing ratio, or proportion of partakers - I think comparing that ratio to average publishers would be 'more accurate' though?
No. It is not "more accurate".
The partakers are based on an actual Biblical number - not a ratio. The partakers are members of an actual numbered group - they are not based on a ratio of partakers per membership. That has never been part of the doctrinal equation.
You calculations are redundant and meaningless when discussing increase/decrease of partakers
