This thread reminds me of a story I read about a serial killer in the Ukraine that converted to the JWs. From a blog entry titled Where do murderers, rapists and pedophiles come from among Jehovah's Witnesses? Analysis of one story:

For a long time in the territory of two districts of Donetsk, in the sewer wells, young women were killed. But not just killed, but dismembered. And not just dismembered, but torn to pieces. The shocked investigators, having studied his confession and understood how he acted, exclaimed: "Never in your life would any investigator have found you, and you understand this." Why did you come? "
Quite calmly, he said: "I became acquainted with the teachings of Jehovah's Witnesses, and I want to become one of them." As I should, I confessed my sins to the elder, and he does not allow me to be baptized. " The investigators asked: "Who is this elder?" And he - directly: "Adadurov!"
A day later, a minister who flown from Kiev shouted at the board of the Ministry of Internal Affairs: "Some priest did what the colonels and generals could not do! .." In the central newspapers a message appeared about this killer maniac under the characteristic headline: "Jehovah's Witnesses in Donetsk does not accept assassins in its ranks. "
In the history of the religious organization this was the second such case. The first was recorded in 1947, when a former Gestapo officer wanted to join Jehovah's Witnesses, wanted for his war crimes by an international tribunal. And in the first and second cases, the Spirit of God did not allow dangerous unrepentant criminals to enter the environment of believing people.
The question of the baptism of the Donetsk maniac was decided in Brooklyn, at the level of the president of the Society. At the international congress in Kiev, which was held in August 1993, I saw the then president of the Society, Milton Henschel. At the same congress, there was a former murderer who was waiting for him to be answered from the Governing Council, whether he would be admitted to baptism or not.

We saved his life only because we were convinced that he really became a believer, a Christian, meek like a lamb, yes, your religion does real miracles ... "

i have yet to read about the contradictions in the jw teachings on blood, but i have personally witnessed one.

i am a medical professional and have seen hemopure administered for an active jw who did refuse a blood transfusion.

its not fda approved here, but given in special life saving circumstances.

Vidiot: Seriously though, this just demonstrates the real reason most JWs toe the transfusion line... they're not overly concerned with what the Bible says about the subject, or even the safety issues.
They're simply too scared of being found out and punished by the Org for maybe treading close to the line.

They don't want to think about it. They just want to do whatever they are told to do so that they get their ticket to paradise.

It doesn't take much thinking, though, to find the glaring discrepancies in the Org's approval of Hemopure and other HBOC's.

One of the procedures that is on the org's banned list is autologous blood transfusions - where the patient pre-donates their own blood for use in planned surgeries. The reason that is given as to why this is unacceptable is that "blood is to be poured on the ground". It is not to be stored.

And one of the procedures that has been acceptable for decades is cardiopulmonary bypass (heart and lung machine) but the WTS/org has been a big deal about how the lines carrying the blood are to be uninterrupted and connected to the patient at all times. Apparently, this is to ensure that the blood isn't stored. That it is a continuous circuit. Why? To adhere to the prohibition against storing blood.

And along comes Hemopure. Animal blood. Collected from herds of donor cows. Drained from dead carcasses, put in containers, cooled, and then processed.

Stored animal blood. Gets the green light.

How much thinking does it take to know that the blood doctrine isn't isn't based on the Bible at all?

My question: would this include any income derived from an inheritance?

Howie: This was the new "Vow of Obedience and Poverty" that we had to sign in 2002 (I don't remember signing one before this one and I had been at Bethel since 1995, so already 7 years in when I was required to sign this one).

Would this new 'vow of poverty' have anything to do with the restructuring that occurred in 2000(1?) when the WTS cut loose the "Christian Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses? It seems as though it was then that the CCJW structured itself into a 'mainstream' religion, likely to take advantage of being a 'religion' under the charity tax laws

Oh, I get what you are saying now, Crazyguy. Yes, the org okays hemoglobin. There is no disputing that. Hemoglobin is red blood cells.

The contradiction exists between the WT/Org policy and the scriptures that they say they base their blood ban on.

There is no contradiction on this point about their blood policy.

From my research the human hemoglobin for some reason is less effective then the product Hemopure.

Again, please explain. More detail needed. Do you mean the blood substitute made from expired human blood, or do you mean human blood, as commonly used in blood transfusions when red blood cells are needed?

The FDA stopped human trials of hemopure because it did not work as well as human blood and because there were too many fatalities and associated health risks

Actually, anytime I have looked for some sort of connection, I always found it in the $$$ to be made.

I don't know why it isn't heard more often.

How much more can it be in a person's face that the Org/WTS has lied about the "blood ban"? Not only is the Hemopure "approval" in direct contradiction to the scriptural basis for the ban, but it isn't too difficult to unearth the connection between Hemopure and the US military (and don't forget about STORMACT).

The Org/WTS prohibits a JW from wearing a military uniform, but the Org itself (through the Hospital Information Services and their HLC squad) arranges for a JW to wear a hospital gown in "service to their country".

I don't get it. How did this happen? Why is it okay for the WTS to collaborate with the military when it comes to blood, but JWs go to jail when they refuse to serve? Do JWs who die after getting a transfusion of cow's blood, get taken to the morgue with an American flag draped over them?
