Suppose when there is only one witness to the alleged abuse, the elders warn the rest of the congregation something like this :"Brothers and sisters, there has been an accusation of child molestation against one of the publishers. Please be extra vigilant with your children." No names are mentioned, so no chance of slander. Tell me what scripture in the Bible would forbid that.

The 2 witness rule
by tim hooper ini've just been informed by a jw apologist that regarding the 2 witness rule in cases of child abuse, the child himself counts as 1 of the witnesses.
he also stated that if 2 children complain about abuse seperately, the 2 children then count as 2 witnesses.. any thoughts please?.

Female presenter on JW Video
by Listener inthere is a video on jw org titled "what happens at a kingdom hall?
" i wouldn't suggest that you watch it as it's pretty sickly, as usual they are praying on emotions in order to encourage people to attend their halls.. the video is presented by a female but does show her face.
it just seems weird that they have allowed a woman to star in this very prominant role.

Listener, I just watched that video twice (curses)and I saw women giving comments, women in the KH audience, but no woman actually presenting the info, though I obviously heard her voice. Did we see the same video?

Question for those converted to JW as adults
by DaleRivers inwhy did you become a jw, what particular teachings attracted you to 'the truth' ?.
.
in my case (baptized at 20/21) it was the only religion i knew; my mom, her mom, and favorite sister were jw; and the teachings of no hellfire or immortal soul made sense to me.. .

The more people who leave the Witnesses, the more people will leave. True?
by ThomasCovenant inif more faders stopped fading and just stopped,.
would more of the many closet unbelieving attendees just stop too, creating a momentum?.

I believe that's true, but I don't think it will be a mass exodus, more like dribs and drabs. I think the issues that people will leave over will be:
The shameless promoting of JW.org.
The continued arrogance of the GB.
Public awareness of the pedophiles in the congregations.
The nonsense and hypocrisy of 'blood fractions'.

Thank-you all for the interesting replies.
Phizzy:I agree that the emotional appeal draws most adult converts. Whether it's the love
bombing, being witnessed to when emotionally vulnerable, or following a loved one
into the cult. It would almost have to be that because adults would have life experience and
education ( perhaps a college degree, gasp!) that would allow them to see that the doctrines
do not hold up well to intellectual scrutiny. Especially now that so much is available on-line, people
can easily read about the tarnished history and screw-ball former beliefs as garyneal pointed out.
Pam's girl: Reading this forum and others like it also helped me a great deal. I faded about a dozen
years ago and would have nagging doubts about whether or not I did the right thing, after
learning TTATT, those doubts are gone.

My question is: where does undue influence end and personal responsibility begin?

Why doesn't the GB make field service optional for certain congregation members only similar to the Mormons?
by yadda yadda 2 inephesians 4:11 makes for a strong case that not every member of the congregation should have to go door-to-door.. "so christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers,..".
this shows that different members of the first century congregations served different ministerial functions.
so why don't the jw's say that field service is no longer compulsory for all congregation members, only for those who feel a calling for it per eph 4:11..... the mormons sort of do this with their young men and women 'elders' doing 2 years voluntary, genuinely full-time service (these mormons boys put in some big hours 6 days a week and have their meals provided for them, etc!

Because it would be anathema to them to lose what they see as their uniqueness. Many beliefs/practices of JW (no birthdays,no beards, no flag salute) were instituted by Rutherford to make JW different from other Christian religions. They take great pride that their beliefs/practices keep them totally separate from 'Babylon the Great':no infant baptisms like the Catholics, no ordination of women like the Episcopalians,no interfaith services, no preaching about hellfire like the Baptists, the list goes on.

Toweragent: the God of the Bible is a character for sure. A misogynistic, anal retentive, blood thirsty, character.
Hairtrigger: Some might say they're not really lying as long as they believe what they're teaching. We have all been lied to by the Governing Body.
