need to worship?
by franklin J inas a former jehovahs witness, one who was raised in the faith, and eventually became a pioneer and ms; i left 20 years ago and at this juncture in my do not feel the need to join any other religion.
it is not that i still believe any of the jw teachings, i just do not believe any organized religion, not christianity, judaism or muslim.
i feel that i am a deeply spiritual person; agnostic, but because of my "jw adventure" , i not longer feel the need to worship.. i am curious to know how the rest of you feel after leaving that faith...is there still a need to worship, or has that feeling also passed with you?.
-
reboot
I have no desire or need to worship anything anymore...it left me about a year after I left- and has never returned..initially I wondered why;and I worried about it, but it never returned.I thought about other churches- but the desire simply was'nt there so have now accepted it as part of my 'new personality' and I see it as a progression.
I think worshipping makes for a very stressful life. All those unanswered prayers lead to even more imploring,beceeching and worrying, appologising, praising and adoration.
Not worshipping anyone means i'm free to work on the real relationships in my life that really matter-the people I love that love me,the ones who never let me down and that I have a real relationship with...my family and friends.

I was aware that rice throwing at weddings was'nt 'allowed' - but was warned before my wedding, as my relatives wer'nt jw's; that I should tell them not to throw confetti as it is' technically ' rice.
When I asked why wedding rings and cakes and superstitions such as' old. new, borrowed, and blue' were allowed as they all have pagan origins, the answer was that they were ok ;
the ring serves as a protection from 'other men'
the other stuff is 'traditional'...which seems to mean...'ok, we know it's pagan, but in this country everyone else does it and we're not allowed many celebrations so back off...'
and the cake. well. they just wern't going to give that one up ! One even said- '...it's just a cake...!'
Hey, good argument

The one that has always stuck in my mind was at a convention; i'd struggled to get there for the 3 days with 3 small children, one still breast feeding; on my own, while suffering from post natal depression.
Had a puncture on the way down.
It was raining-
I got lost travelling to the convention ground.( for those of you who know me thats not hard for me to do. )
Parked, and was greeted sullenly and told to move the car.. by a jumped up little car park dictator...
So had to move from near the entrance to far away-and walk in the pouring rain into the ground.
finally found a seat after dragging the children around and around, soaking wet, being told I could'nt sit in empty seats that were saved for others...finally sat down, recognised some people from my congregation...who proceeded to tell me off for not taking advantage of the spiritual feast by arriving late...aaaggghhhhh
So I picked up the children and ran back to my car and sobbed in private.
A then a lovely woman knocked on the window and spoke to me so kindly .She'd followed me out and asked if she could help and said that she was proud of me just for being there-even if I was in a car and I was missing it all.

Our Heroes--past and present
by Vita Nuova ini really hope to get a ton of responses for this topic, so even if you're just browsing through postings and topics, please add your two cents...however brief.
i am really curious to know who our "heroes" are, those people we admire, identify with, emulate and recieve inspiration from.
feel free to even list former heroes and perhaps why you were taken with admiration for them at that point in your life and maybe why you don't feel that way any longer.

I'm obsessed with reading accounts of exploration , courage and selfless sacrifice. so my list would be...
Amelia Earhart, trailblazer.
Jane Addams-described asthe 'only American saint ' ' America's most useful citizan' and the ' worlds greatest woman ' for her work for others and for promoting peace by example.
Margaret Sanger-contraception campaigner,visionary,uncompromising, unopologetic.
Emmiline Pankhurst.' We women have a great mission- the greatest mission the world has ever known.It is to free half the human race, and through that freedom to save the rest.'E.P. 1912
and last but only for emphisis;
My mother- for standing between me and my father and taking blows meant for me.
