Questions For Those That Entered the Armed Forces After Practicing JWism
by R.F. inwith having so many close to me serve in the armed forces, it only helps me appreciate even more those that serve in them.
i've had 7 uncles and a grandfather serve in the u.s. army, another grandfather in the u.s. navy, my late brother-in-law served for 6 years in the air force right on up to his death earlier this year, and my father also served in the air force in his pre-jw days.. even while being a very devout jw, i still had the utmost respect and appreciation for those serving.
from what i understand after chatting with many of you is that some among us on jwd have entered the military after leaving the religion.

Well I entered the Armed Forces 3 months after I DA'ed. I did the 3 year stint. My parents are still JWs and were not happy then when I went in. They had a future in their mind for me to be in Bethel or attend Gilead. At this time we still speak with each other and I visit them occasionally. I feel I grew up much faster or seen reality as it is in the 3 years I served then in the 18 growing up in with the JWs.

Did you get a little pressured to get baptized young?
by outofthebox inwe saw an elder the other night trying to convince a couple of kids that they were ready to be unbaptized publishers.
and then he went and added that he was baptized very young and they should too.
so, these two kids were feeling the pressure.

Oh boy did I feel the pressure!! Just turned 14 when I was baptized! Pleased my folks immensely, as they had plans for me to later enter bethel service or missionary service. What a disappointment I was when I hit 18! Anyway that period of my life is long over as I pursued things I really wanted to accomplish in my life ,once I left the Borg.

Is the Bible really from God.....
by REBORNAGAIN inor just from everyday people like you and me and christians just held on to it because it gave them something to hope for and put faith in?.
if it really is from god, why are things still so mysterious, i.e.
why are we still in the dark about the future?

Chappy I believe the scripture you had in mind was Romans 2: 12 - 16: 12 For instance, all those who sinned without law will also perish without law; but all those who sinned under law will be judged by law. 13 For the hearers of law are not the ones righteous before God, but the doers of law will be declared righteous. 14 For whenever people of the nations that do not have law do by nature the things of the law, these people, although not having law, are a law to themselves. 15 They are the very ones who demonstrate the matter of the law to be written in their hearts, while their conscience is bearing witness with them and, between their own thoughts, they are being accused or even excused. 16 This will be in the day when God through Christ Jesus judges the secret things of mankind, according to the good news I declare.

Vindication 3 1932 quote about reading Rutherfords books better than Bible
by beginnersmind in1932 "if you spend 15 minutes reading each of rutherford's books you would get more pleasure than you would reading the bible for a whole year" {vin3 383} .
this is twice now ive seen this quote posted on topix.net and when i asked for confirmation of it the first time over there i didnt get any.
when i searched online i managed to find the vindication 3 book but it didnt go upto page 383. can someone verify that the above quote is accurate or check this book if they have it?

FOR BUSY PEOPLE We have made a selection of more than seventy-five of Judge Rutherford's concise, straight-to-the-point explanations of the most perplexing problems in the Bible and have arranged them in thirteen attractively bound booklets. Each treatise can be read in just fifteen minutes, and more genuine satisfaction and profitable pleasure derived therefrom in that length of time than can be gotten from studying the Bible by youself in a whole year." Great find Begginers!! I just looked it up in a copy I have and it's in there!! lol

HELL MENTIONED IN CONSOLATION 1941
by badboy insaid that clergman went/woul go to hell who ha something to do with an widow's eviction.. this was issue that mentioned jesuits..

This is what I found: Consolation Nov.29,1941 pg 31 under title STATE CHURCH BLEEDS SCOTTISH FARMER - " Hundreds of years ago the Church represented in Scotland, as elsewhere, the machinery of local government, including poor relief and education, and was paid for the work which it did by a land tax called "teinds". This work has long since been secularized, but the church, like a sow with its nose in the swill, demands that the payments continue, and the law is such that this graft must be paid. A widow was forced out of a farm at Cupar through inability to pay teinds of 100 pounds per annum; her minister died leaving 26,000 pounds. That speaks for itself, and shows that the clergy of Scotland are just like those of ancient Judea. The Lord accused those hypocrites of devouring widows' houses. Probably this "reverend" who is now in hell for keeps was a bird at making long prayers. They generally are. The Lord mentions that too. He didn't leave anything out."
