LittleRockGuy that was such an AWESOME book! Do read it again and when you read the part about the planets under the cloud, think the WTS control. Gives that book a whole different and spooky twist.

for those of you who like science fiction - what is your favourite science fiction book, or indeed film?

a more complete example of a wrong religious road or overwhelming delusion than what is found in the writings of the watchtower bible and tract society would be difficult to find.
if each jehovah's witness would follow their own guidance and conscience, many more than already have would stream out of the suffocating grip of this man-centered organization and into true liberty.. matt 24:11-12 many false prophets will rise up and deceive many.
because lawlessness will multiply, the love of many will grow cold.
My beliefs are ever evolving as I grow and travel through my life. I find things I like and cast aside no longer needed convictions on a regular basis. Spirituality is not a destination, its a journey. Its when you hold to that "my way is the exact and only truth", that you actually set yourself up for a fall. I really believe that is true no matter what spiritual path you follow.

To Say Nothing of the Dog

For fluff SciFi I have to say anything by Anne McAffery, she rocks. For hard-core SciFi, well that changes on a weekly basis! I think one of my favorites was the Chronicles of Amber, I think it was by Zelazney. I think one of my favorite new authors is Isobelle Carmody. Two that don't change, I could read them over and over are Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. Funny as all hell.

rate yourself as far as healing from the abuse of the organization.
time is a great healer, so i believe those who can state many years out, will also state a high rate of healing has occured for them.how many years have you been out of the organization?on a scale of 1-10, ten being completely free of the pain, one being raw and still hurting with intensity, how much healing have you accomplished since leaving?related to number 2 - how much of your mind have you recaptured?
how often do your decisions still bring watchtower theology into play when making them?.

1. Almost 15 years
2. Its like an onion we keep peeling back those layers, each time we do we think we're completely over it. Then something new will come up and catch you unawares years later. Still I think about a 9 after all this time. The layers get fewer and MUCH farther between over time.
3. I'd say all of it. I never think of WT theology. Maybe if I was a christian it might be more confusing. But I'm not so thinking in those terms would be sort of foreign.
Good topic.

i would like to address something that has been popping up a lot lately.
bias.. as it relates to discussion forums, lets examine this word from the following perspective:3 a : bent, tendency b : an inclination of temperament or outlook; especially : a personal and sometimes unreasoned judgment : prejudice c : an instance of such prejudice d (1) : deviation of the expected value of a statistical estimate from the quantity it estimates (2) : systematic error introduced into sampling or testing by selecting or encouraging one outcome or answer over others.. (merriam-webster online entry: bias).
there is an old maxim that with great variation goes something like this: there are two things you never discuss with a friend, religion and politics.
Everyone has bias and prejudice. If you examine them and grow from them they are fine. If you turn all Archie Bunker, forgeddaboudit. Its when people beat you up with them and bully with them that I object. That has happened on this list before and I am sure that it will again. The moderators are pretty good most of the time about stepping in when that happens.
Good topic...

Its people like this that give christianity a bad name. Most aren't this bad, however I can see my mom being just like that. Its called fanatacism and though I can't spell it I sure lived with it!
I think she needs hauled away for intensive therapy in an asylum somewhere.
