i have been in an avatar changing mood.
i wonder what do you all prefer, a personal pic so you know who your posting to or do you prefer a avatar that reflects an aspect of the persons personality?
I will probably change mine every once in awhile. First I had my picture up, but then I put up Glinda because I'm a good witch and when I did Glinda for Halloween a couple of times everyone said I looked exactly like the actress on the Wiz. Some of my friends occasionally call me Glinda.

i don't know why, but the posting about the apostates outside the tacoma dome made me think of an assembly i went to in portland oregon in the 70s.
(ok so i'm dating myself)... anyway right in the middle of a talk (i think it was the sunday main talk) we had a streaker run through.
i never laughed so hard in all my life!!!
I remember that the brothers working security went scrambling, they chased the guy. It all happened so fast I didn't see it until he was halfway across the stage. I was daydreaming, you know how you know, it was a long assembly and I was a young teenager!) They didn't have a bunch of people guarding the stage back then like they did in later years (I assume it still goes on). Truthfully it happened so long ago that I can't remember a lot, but it seems like the guy giving the talk just kept right on going throughout the whole thing. I don't think too many people were laughing, but I did and got some looks! And I have still laughed about it over the years.

just curious who went on to associated themselves with another religion after leaving the watchtower and whether you still follow the bible or not.
i haven't really decided what i believe but i'll consider almost anything not witness related.
I find I am a deeply spiritual person but not at all religious. I have been to churches, and I have studied other spiritualities and have made my own path. Its very satisfying to me and I find that I have a much deeper connection than I ever did as a Witness.

I went to the Tacoma Dome regularly. At the time I was active in a congregation in eastern Washington (Tri-Cities area). Haven't lived there for years.

god it was sooooo goood to see him.
he picked me up and swung me lol the look on his face when he saw his girlfriend and me was priceless.

ford and battle, each sentenced to 18 years in prison, were the first defendants among the so-called "portland seven" to be sentenced for their now-admitted conspiracy to support afghanistan's fundamentalist government, the taliban.
they are the only members of the portland seven who refused to cooperate with the government in exchange for lighter sentences.
From one radically fundamentalist religion to another. In his case, its a case of "out of the frying pan into the fire." What a waste.
how do witnesses know if they are one of the 144,000?
my husband, who was a witness for 20 years, couldn't really answer this one beyond "they just know".
how do those "lucky" 144,000 witnesses know who they are?
I can't answer the first part of the question, but the second part is yes. I have two very good friends who partook for years and are no longer witnesses.

I have been out for about 12 years, maybe longer (didn't write down the date).. When I left I had been trying to get some help with the congregation regarding an abusive husband. Of course that meant that there must be something I was doing to cause him to treat me that way. In consequence I had become very depressed and was on Prozac. One of the last meetings I ever went to, one of the ministerial servants gave a talk on depression. The talk centered around "true" depression, caused (he said) by such things as a death in the family or some legitimate crisis; not to be confused with feeling sorry for yourself, in which case you should be ashamed of yourself for not relying on Jehovah to help you through the tough spots. Not a word about therapy. In fact, back then it was definately NOT done by the faithful and very much discouraged from the podium, as were college educations, etc.
I remember a conversation between two brothers (one an elder) when we were out in service one day (before the above incident).. One said, sister so-and-so is suffering from depression. The other brother shakes his head, "well, no doubt she'll leave the truth, then. Those that suffer depression rarely come back."
I think that's so ironic that the dubs prey on people that are dissatisfied and depressed and vulnerable to the message, and yet Jehovah's Witnesses have one of the highest rates of depression of any organized religion. (I actually saw a study on this) So then those that leave also leave because they are depressed?? (things that make you go hmmmmmm)..

Ah yes, I was WAY afraid to look at them, like they had kryptonite or something! Too funny... Think about that mind control, they tell you that you can't even talk to apostates because their message is too alluring. Well if you have the so-called "truth" why would you be afraid of a little dissent or debate??
And yes, I too went to the Tacoma Dome for years. Good to know some of you live around here! I'm in Kent.
