one of the 'major' points jws will come back at you with is that they alone are the only religion that teaches people shouldn't go to war.
off the top of my head i know that many followers in the 'church of christ' movement have held to this view, does anybody have a list of religions that teach this to their members?
sometimes just opening people up out of the witness bubble by presenting evidence that is conrtary to what they believe to be true is very helpful.

someone i knew stood up at the convention to answer her two baptism questions both with a "yes".
she was having an affair with a married brother at the time.. but i'd top my 'biggest lie' list with four small words; "in the beginning, god"
That Saddam Hussein was an imminent threat to the US and the world, and that there were weapons of mass destruction as a basis for war.

yesterday when i was working someone was watching some particularly un-jw approved movies on the big screen tv's i sell.
i asked them if i could help them as i usually do with customers and he hooked me into a conversation.
about 5 minutes later i heard the work 'jehovah' and freaked inside!
well thats a bit spooky
maybe you need a restraining order?

my wife just spent $900 on 4 pair of eyeglasses.
is it just me, or is that waaaaaay too much money?
i don't wear glasses anymore (laser surgery), but isn't this too much?
OMG I am getting new glasses on Monday and I had NO freaking idea they cost this much. My insurance covers the exam and $50.00 for hardware. I'm screwed.

okay... so i am super embarassed once again.
this time what happened is too embarassing to share, i think.
most people would probably tell me i am gross, too, and most of you would probably not even want to hear it so i guess that i am better off not sharing it here.
Kristy,
I feel for you, I too had one that was extremely embarrasing. There was this young man that I wanted to go out with for the longest time, back when I was a JW. He FINALLY asked me, and we went to a club to dance (about 30 miles from the city). In the middle of a dance during the early part of the date, I felt this horrible sensation. I had started to hemmorhage (sp?), it was running down my legs. I ran off the dance floor bumping into people, went into the bathroom and cleaned up the best I could, but it would not stop. I had to go back out, ask him to get me home. Next day I had to have an emergency D&C and (gasp) go on birth control to control the bleeding. Never saw that "brother" again. You should have seen the look (like a deer in the headlights) on his face when I told him. I was mortally humiliated then, but now I think its kind of funny.

i cant help but think of the analogy of pendulum swings when i think about how vitriolic some are towards religion (of any description), the bible (and other scripture), and christianity (generally, regardless of there being a wide range of denominational flavours) in particular.. it seems to me, from my perspective of sitting here on a remote scottish island, that there are a fair number of folks who may have left an intolerant and generalising religion but forgot to leave those attitudes with it.. just my 2p, coz to be frank i'm getting sick of it.. by all means enjoy some self-expression, it's a relatively free planet, but have a heart....
Ross, I have noticed it too, in fact early on I participated as well. Now I just don't even open the threads I know will go in that directions. However, the intolerance is not only towards Christians. Its all religions that take heat including my own. Sometimes I think Athiests try to convert more than any Christian I ever knew.
I do have to say, that until I met you, LT and one or two others, I had never met a Christian that was not judgemental. I think I am blessed to have met you and the others, because I learned something from the experience. I still have my guard up but I don't usually take part in the first few volleys!
Today at my service we talked about brotherhood, and peace. I vow today to put that energy out there. Its all I can do.
Blessings,
Sherry
as you can see i am still a newbie and it looks to me like most of you are either die-hard christians or atheists.
so i was wondering if some of you had become animists, polytheists or had converted to another sort of paganism.
(am i the only one here?...
I too am pagan. I usually use the term Dianic Wiccan, because thats more of the flavor of it, but I basically honor Gaia and try to leave a small footprint.
Blessings,
Sherry
