This was a good ol' thread. I love how so many new people posted, many only here.
M0nk3y, are you still around? How was your wedding? What are you doing these days? Do you still bring Mrs. Kitty out once in a while?
Dansk: That's cool your duaghter is out of the org, and that your family was so supportive of her. So that means you have one left in right?

The smell of the woods in west central Wisconsin during Indian Summer where my father used to take me trout fishing with him when I was about 4-5. I just learned recently what plants perfumed the air there, monarda is the most prominent. A very dried herb, spicey sleepy lazy smell. monarda is also called Bergomont, but is not the citrus bergomont. So the smell is very much like real bergomont, used in Earl Grey Tea, but also slightly like dried oregano or marjoram. In this memory, I remember that the leaves were starting to turn, and we walked through a patch of nettle that was taller than him, I was little at that time so I thought that was cool. That's also when I learned how to walk through a patch of nettle without getting stung.

What's Your View of Spiritism Now???
by minimus inof course, as witnesses, everything was possibly "demonized".
if you got anything second hand, you could be in demon trouble.
if you saw a horror movie or read anything by stephen king, you were inviting the demons to you.

diamondblue1974 that was a good link.
There's a book called Practical Psychic Self Defense by Robert Bruce, very similiar ideas.

Quija boards are not something I'd mess with, its a form of channeling with no safe guards in place; sort of like plugging your computer in with no surge protection.
I've played around with bi-location, remote viewing, OBE, but mostly just practice meditation and energy work on myself or clients, like Reiki but working with chakras and acupunture meridians.

History leading up to my "happiness" thread
by Junction-Guy insome of you seem perplexed as to my latest threads, i thought i would give you a little background.. .
about 3 years ago, amanda and i met up with an xjw elder here in knoxville.
it started out ok, but deteriorated rapidly.

If you set out to be truly happy, then the revenge will be in the eye of those who wish misery upon you. You will never know because you have left revenge behind you.
Nicely put.
Also, who said the "forgiveness is the best revenge"?, that was good too.
I think JG, that something is really bugging you, and these surface turbulence issues are a way of avoiding the real thing.

At what point did you stop being an idiot?
by Hiddenwindow inwere you always an open-minded jw?
did you ever think that another brother was an apostate because he asked a simple logical question?
the latter, of course, is the most natural reaction among most jws.

It is a paradox of language, as is most Taoist or Zen writing.
Take two people. One is your uncle who you know is a braggert and bigmouth, has an opinion on everything, and is "always right". Loves to argue just to ruffle people, has a degree in lets say, P.E. and has never taught.
The other, your other uncle. A farmer, degree in AG, farmed his whole life, grew up on a farm.
They are arguing over an obscure detail about growing corn in sandy soil in a river valley in a northern midwest state.
Who do you think "knows" what he's talking about here? The loud mouthed P.E. teacher who never taught in school, but "has a degree"; or the farmer?
This is a real life scenario between my uncles. I know who I'd bank with, as long as they're discussing corn.
The uncle growing the corn, doesn't "need" to argue about how to grow corn in his river bottom, he "knows" how to do it, why would he need to get the other's support on his crop practices?

Do You Try To Be A Politically Correct Person? Why or Why Not???
by minimus inare you careful about what you say?
do you make sure that you won't offend anyone?
do you care??

I don't "think" in PC terms, but depending on present company may or not speak in PC terms, but my norm would be to just not speak or as little as possible. Arguing with Pc types is just not worth it. I think those that really push PC are just compensating for themselves, trying to make themselves seem more tolerant, when often they are not.
Humor, I love non PC humor, but it seems like only some people can get away with it. South Park is good too, they make fun of EVERYBODY.

Have you changed your mind about ABORTION?
by nicolaou ini'm not after a discussion on the rights or wrongs on abortion, what i'm asking is whether or not your views have evolved over time.. perhaps leaving the watchtower was enough to allow your true feelings on abortion to find expression.
maybe abortion is one of those subjects where you still find yourself in agreement with your old jw self.
did becoming a mother change your perspective in any way or solidify your views?.

You said it well Nic.
I believe its too personal, and nobody should tell another what to do with their own body. But I feel that--barring special circumstances like previously mentioned--I just wish there was an alternative.
As a JW I was dead against it, but my beliefs now are like you said.
I haven't read the whole thread, but it seems that someone mentioned prostitution. I think an adult should be able to whatever they want with their own body, free from duress. Liscense it, tax it, make it safer. And just because its legal doesn't mean someone has to do it. Drugs, sex, go for it.

When I admitted to myself that I am an Idiot.
There were things that I didn't like way back when I believed, I remember reading a whatchtower article during the study one sunday, and I thought to myself, "That's just wrong." and thinking then also that if that situation came up, I would not comply, but I'd also keep my mouth shut. I don't remember precisly what the issue was, I just felt it was very unreasonable. And yet--and this bothers me still--I could not free myself from the belief system of the Borg.
Since I've been out, I've enjoyed reading the Tao Te Ching, and one of my favorite lines is:
The one who speaks, doesn't know; the one who knows, doesn't speak.
I also like this, not from the Tao Te Ching: People who think they know everything, anoy those of us that do.
