Calling All Apologists/Sympathizers
by Sentient inokay, i'd like to invite some comments about this, particulary from those of you who don't believe or follow what the wtbts teaches, yet on the other hand have made comments regarding the witnesses such as: .
"but if it makes you happy..." .
"...more power to you..." .

To use an old Bhuddist expresion, "We will stop suffering when we choose to stop suffering."
Some people believe that to be just a state of mind, I prefer to think of it as an awareness of where I am and how I got here. ie, if I go to the KH, its because I chose to go. I may have made that choice based on limited or bad information, but the choice was still mine to take action on.
In a situation with victims of abuse, (and I'm just working on this idea, its not absolute) I don't think its the fault of the victim, as the victimizer is the one who took the opportunity and chose to make them their victim, but I have to wonder, if in some instances, does the victim bear any responsibility for what happened to them? If they chose to be at a certain place at a certain time, or even just in a certain situation...?
If I go walking in downtown Tacoma Washington in an Armani suit in the middle of night, and I am approached by a group of strangers who are loud and obnoxious, then should I really feel indignant and surprised if I get mugged and beaten up?
No human being deserves to get abused, but if I don't take responsibility for my own safety, then I'm a fool.
--------------------------
A former poster to the board (Farkle?) used to say often, "Arguing with an idiot makes you an idiot, they will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience." or something similiar.

Yes, its sad that people get trapped in organizations like this, but there is not alot you can do about it. You can't/must not force them, as that just makes it worse for them. To really help people, takes them on some level really wanting help. In cult-ish scenarios, a very deft and patient, almost cunning attitude is also needed on the part of the one who is trying to help.
I'm saying most of this badly, but I think you might get my intent. Sorry I'm rambling and its late, Good night.

Is spiritual compatibility important?
by serendipity inhow important is/was spirituality to you when considering a person as a husband/wife?
did you expect the person to have similar spiritual beliefs and goals?
if s/he didn't have similar beliefs, was it important to be able to discuss spirituality respectfully ?

I think its very important. For example, a Taoist and a Wiccan could probably make it work as long as the rest of the relationship was also balanced and healthy. I don't think that a bible slinging Born again Baptist could make it work with a Bhuddist, Pagan, Muslim, or even a Catholic, but I could be wrong.
I'm thinking that the more tolerant that a belief system is, the easier it would be for people of differing religions to come together.

Isn't It Eye Opening When You Realize How STUPID This Religion Is?
by minimus inthe meetings and publications are somewhat constant.
"exert yourself".
"stay away from the internet".

What I kick myself over is the fact that I could not free myself of the beliefs myself; a close friend had to be the catalyst. I think that I'm still stunned by that realization, that I was unable or too stuborn to try to explore and grow.

Doctrine on Homosexuality
by DaveNwisconsin ini was reading on the web about gays and jw's.
first of all i am gay.
i am not saying i am sorry as i don't feel there is anything bad about it.
-

What also irkes me is this so called "Homosexual life style". What exactly is that?
Is it what you'd see on the Discovery channel, say when they're talking about animals and their diets and habitats? Behaviors?
Would it scandalise and surprise you that many gay people don't really fit the mold of the "Homosexual life style"?

I'm still trying to unravel and undo the years of self abuse...(oops, pun)...that I put myself through by trying to un-gay myself as a teen. Look, if you can do it, then that's just peaches and cream...but I am way past anything to do with human contructed religions and LAW, that offer me no help in being who I was born to be.
Dark Uncle, geting used to this skin...and finially liking it.

What's your theological worldview?
by LittleToe indidier: .
i know you are going to find this amusing .
http://quizfarm.com/test.php?q_id=43870you scored as neo orthodox.

You scored as Classical Liberal. You are a classical liberal. You are sceptical about much of the historicity of the Bible, and the most important thing Jesus has done is to set us a good moral example that we are to follow. Doctrines like the trinity and the incarnation are speculative and not really important, and in the face of science and philosophy the surest way we can be certain about God is by our inner awareness of him. Discipleship is expressed by good moral behaviour, but inward religious feeling is most important. Classical Liberal 86% Emergent/Postmodern 82% Modern Liberal 46% Evangelical Holiness/Wesleyan 36% Roman Catholic 29% Charismatic/Pentecostal 29% Neo orthodox 18% Reformed Evangelical 4% Fundamentalist 4%
