This will blow your gourd: The ancient sumerians, and by extension the chaldeans or babylonians, had their records recorded on clay tablets. They have records and their own historical perspectives that cover 100,000+ years of history. Yet, our scientists call this myth and religious nonsense. I'd be more inclined to trust these peoples' own version of their history than our version of their history. i just can't seem to find any of these that have been translated.

What if God was actually just an alien encounter in history?
by free2beme ini always liked star trek, kind of a sci-fi nut by nature.
anyway, an older episode involved leaving a gangster book on an evolving planet and then the people turned this into a way of life.
well it makes me wonder at times, what if our early cultures were once visited by an alien culture and instead of realizing this, they took their advance technology to be god?

Coming Oil Shocks - real or myth?
by Qcmbr ini've been reading a very persuasive site regarding a potential coming oil shock: .
http://www.lifeaftertheoilcrash.net/ .
i've also looked at some of the counter arguements such as the theory of abiotic oil (oil is not a fossil fuel it is generated deep in the earth by geological processes and is therefore not going to run out.

In short, I don't believe that new energy technology will be widely available until it becomes profitable. Nothing is wrong with making a profit, but I really hate the way the world markets are controlled and technologies are supressed or bought out.

Islamic Extremism:Begining of the End of All Religion?
by prophecor inhere's a scenario as to how it could be played out.
in an effort to squelch radical islam from gaining a foothold on the democratic processes that is begining to occur in the middle east, especially as it relates to iraq and eventually, maybe iran, could religion, all religion come to be eventually outlawed worldwide as a means of choking out the relentless hostile energy that occurs worlwide?
to try and stem the tide of suicide bombers around the world, as well as the possibility of bio-terrorism?

I don't think the problem is only Islamic extremists. I think it is all extremism, religious-political-corporate-academic. It just so happens that islamic extremism is the most visible due to the current view of world events.
I think that to force "no religion" on any country or the world would be very bad, not only from a human rights perspective, but in the sense that that then creates a united front or polarity that is against all religion. That would then nessesitate the emergence of the opposite polarity: those for religion, or "those against 'those against religion' ".
I think that education is the best way to end extremism, education at home and school. Unfortunately, that takes alot of work and resorces from parents, teachers and governments--which will not happen until people see the need for it and take responsibility for it.
Plus, I think many people just like to fight. Nothing gets the blood pumping like a good old argument, fist fight, flame war, or combat.

I think that first off, alot of people are going to poo-poo this, putting their reliance onto scientists and politicians. My answer to that is check out New Orleans. If I could afford it now, I'd be working out a deal with a farmer to grow a set amount of corn for me to use as a source of biodiesel. Or some other such plan, point being, I believe in being self reliant and prepared for most circumstances.
I do think that there is some old Borg Algorythem still running that causes us to be paranoid and doom&gloom, but if that mentality causes us to be cautious and plan ahead, then it can't be all bad.

PROOF OF REBIRTH?
by Dansk inrebirth, as opposed to reincarnation, is a fascinating topic and the following two stories have been taken from the tibetan book of living and dying by sogyal rinpoche (available from amazon books).
the second story, that of a child, came to the attention of the dalai lama and he sent a special representative to interview her and verify the story.
there have been many other rebirth stories published and the subject holds a special fascination for me.

Thanks for posting this Ian, its very interesting. I know I've died a few times.
Here are a few lines from a song that sort of fits this:
And I find it kind of funny
I find it kind of sad
The dreams in which I’m dying
Are the best I’ve ever had
I find it hard to tell you
’cos I find it hard to take
When people run in circles
It’s a very, very-Mad world
not to get too off track, but have you seen Donnie Darko? Good show, not what it first appears.

Desiderata
Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even the dull and ignorant; they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain and bitter, for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble, it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs, for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; Many persons strive for high ideals, and everywhere life is full of heroism.
Be yourself.
Especially, do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment, it is perennial as the grass.
Take kindly the council of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself.
You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars, you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding exactly as it should.
Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be, and whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.
With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful - Strive to be happy.

I agree with you mouthy. From what I remember of this guy, he was not a bad kid when he was younger, but he was kind of coddled and spoiled by his parents.
