I think it's a nice book with nice stories to help give us a moral compass as we go through our lives.
I do not believe it is the unadulterated, straight from the Big Man Himself, Word of God.

the sound system always seems to blare piercing static through the speakers.
the weather is often too hot or disappointingly overcast.
i'm not going to go up there and thank all my friends or talk about being together in the future.
I also graduated at the top of my class. However, there were two of us who had the same GPA, so we were co-valedictorians. The year before there were also co-valedictorians with one of them being a JW as well.
My speech was also simple and focused on memories of our school years together. I think I had one scripture in there towards the end so I wouldn't get hasseled by the congregation.

as an apartment dweller i'm used to an electric bill that is about $80 to $100 per month... but with the summer heat my bill just jumped to $180!
ouch!!!!!!
My electricity provider is the city. About three years ago, the city passed a special sales tax to off-set a portion of the city's resident's electricity bill. My May bill was $135, I'm sure it'll get up to $150 this summer.
The city buys electricity from Entergy, Inc. wholesale. The local newspaper reported that Entergy is cancelling that deal as soon as the contract expires. The next lowest provider is a company out of Texas. The paper said that we could expect to see our rates rise 40 - 50%. Oh, happy day!
hey y'all,.
how many of you have tattoos, and if so what are they?
what is the meaning, if any, behind them?
<--------------------- My avatar is my tattoo.
I got a shamrock with three leaves because I wanted it to be about my heritage, not luck. (My family is from County Cork, Ireland.) My friends got together and got it for me for my 30th birthday. It is on my left ankle. It hurt, but not so bad that I couldn't stand it.
I also got one because I wanted a symbolic gesture to the WTS to say, "You $^*$^ don't contol my life any longer." I want another one very soon....

Group Protests At Soldier’s Funeral
Family and friends gathered Wednesday in Beebe to say goodbye to fallen soldier, Army Spc. Bobby West. But they were joined by people protesting at the funeral.
West was killed in Iraq on May 30 after a roadside bomb exploded while his unit was on patrol in Baghdad. He was also the first Arkansas soldier to die since the state passed a law in April limiting protests at funerals. (See link for full text.)
However, it did not keep members of a Kansas religious group from protesting at West's funeral. The controversial group from Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, Kan., has shown up at close to a hundred soldiers’ funerals.
They carry signs that many people find terribly offensive. One boy held a sign that read, “Thank God for Dead Soldiers" and another boy held the sign, "Thank God for IEDs." Their message: the deaths are God's punishment because the United States harbors homosexuals.
Meanwhile, the Patriot Guard Riders had about 300 riders to help shield the soldier’s family from the protesters. The group was created with the sole purpose of protecting the families from protesters at funerals. (See link for more on the Patriot Guard.) They flank the family’s car and make it difficult to hear anything other than the rumbling of their motorcycles.
The Westboro Baptist Church is led by Pastor Fred Phelps, and he and his followers began appearing outside funerals of American troops killed in Iraq last June.
Phelps says they will continue the protests despite restrictive laws passed by several states. In fact, some of the protesters have quit their jobs so they can travel regularly to soldiers' funerals.
it has been 5 years since a scared still-jw lurker signed on as blondie.
my other birthday approaches but this is the real one.
i have seen jwd grow and change and evolve, and some of it was painful.
Happy Birthday, Blondie!
I know you've given way more than you've received! I'm very thankful that you found this place!

are you pleased with your job or do you hate it, and if you don't like it then what would you prefer to do instead?
.
i work as a science teacher and i enjoy teaching so i am happy with it.
They are always doing all sorts of nice little things for everyone. It's all of the little things that add up to make the work experience very nice.
Elsewhere, you are totally right.
My job can be very stressful at times. My team's performance has a direct effect on generating commissions for our agents. If we're behind and the monthly premiums don't get posted, our agents don't get paid. In the past year, we've gone from 6 weeks average processing time to 3 days. It was a tough, long road, but I have a great team who worked very hard and complained very little to get the job done.
Our company recognized a lot of the inefficiencies in the tools they gave us to work with and have addressed those. We also have many employee initiatives that are going on.... diversity, health, communication seminars, retirement seminars, departmental crosstraining. But my favorite was "Employee Appriciation Week." An entire week of fun activities with no one worrying about how little work was actually being done. The total focus was in showing our employees how much we appreciated their contribution to the business.

I think he's lying....
today, i went to the doctor and scheduled some elective surgery.
this, of couse, required some paperwork.
one of the items i had to sign was a consent to have a blood transfusion if necessary.
Sounds odd. Perhaps you still "smell of JW"...
Oh my. I don't think so. Maybe I had some dog crap on the bottom of my shoe!

Nope. Never went to this doctor as a JW. I know that in the US, there is a database that healthcare providers use to record diagnoses. Doctors use it to pull a new patient's medical history; and insurance companies us it to help determine things like preexisting conditions. I wonder if there's some sort of idication of religious affiliation?

As he was explaining it, he told me, "I've never had to give a transfusion for this procedure, but we want to be safe." As I'm signing the document, he keeps "selling" the fact that transfusions are very safe. Which is kinda weird because there is no way for him to know that I used to be a JW.
He went on to say, "Even most Jehovah's Witnesses will agree to allow us to give them a couple of pints of blood if necessary." I told him that I had relatives who were JWs and I was well aware of their false doctrine regarding blood transfusions.
So, the question is was he telling the truth or trying to make a patient feel better? Since he's going to be cutting on me, I'm hoping for the first...
