Frenchy,
I love it! I can totally relate. I also love the way this poem sounds. Kind of like the reassuring sounds of a small stream as it flows past in a quiet forest.
i had not visited this place for a while.
i was very happy to see that others had not deserted it as i had.
that's what this poem is about.. how great the loss.

Carmel,
Since you are there, care to let us in on what's the deal? Is it primarlily a religious dispute? Please enlighten me. How is this scene likely to end?

If you mean that we are capable of love, justice, wisdom and power, the cardinal attributes of Almighty God -- then I would have to say no. Just kidding! Since I haven't met God, I really don't know, do you? (I hope he is better looking!)
in keeping with the celebration of presidential elections in the usa, i've found the following memorial quotes pertaining to this national pastime:.
"a conservative is a statesman who is enamoured of existing evils, as distinguished from a liberal, who wishes to replace them with others" ambrose bierce.
"if we don't succeed, we run the risk of failure.
"Of all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world, Seven walks into mine."
Here's looking at you, kid.
Is that cannon fire, or is it my heart pounding?
Last night we said a great many things. You said I was to do the thinking for both of us. Well, I've done a lot of it since then, and it all adds up to one thing. You're getting on that plane with Frenchy where you belong.
We'll always have Katmandu. We didn't have - we lost it until you came to California. We got it back last night.
Seven, I'm no good at being noble, but it doesn't take much to see that the problems of three little people don't amount to a hill of beans in this crazy world. Some day you'll understand that. Maybe one day we'll find each other again -- in Hong Kong or God only knows where -- maybe in Antarctica. Here's looking at you, kid.

SevenofNine,
You and Bob Seeger really get around! I am jealous! I have only been to Europe once (England) and Canada once. I really liked England and I look forward to seeing Italy (I'll be looking for you there) as well as many other European countries.
You should be easy to spot since you look just like that actress on Voyager (or are you actually her?). Do you hang out at Trevi fountain or any other famous places? Do you sign autographs for loyal fans?
I woke last night to the sound of thunder. How far off, I sat and wondered. Started hummin' a song from 1962. Ain't it funny how the night moves. When you just don't seem to have as much to lose, strange how the night moves, with autumn closin' in.

...for the average jw as i see them out in door to door work.
i shake my head and think; they just don't know.
or maybe they do, but are in a dilemma similar to thousands if not millions right now.
TR,
I am also grateful to Ray Franz and internet forums such as this one. When I saw through the deception that starts with the GB my life began.
As someone who was taught to be devout from infancy, the teachings of the Borg were in every fiber of my being. They shaped every thought I had and every perception of myself and others. Every school class, every book I read, every news article I read, every conversation I had with anyone on any subject, every challenge I faced in my life, all were perceived through a carefully constructed, altered state of reality which prevented me from attempting to understand their true nature and effect upon me. This induced a denial about the very nature of my existence and the world that is more pervasive than any other that I can imagine.
As I stated in another thead recently, all the activities (in proper balance) are not bad for one, and I learned many good habits of personal development as a result of taking my faith and responsibilities seriously. These are things, however, that may be learned equally well outside of the context of God and religion, given proper training and direction -- and learned without the denial and mistrust of others, and without the cultlike isolation physically, mentally and emotionally, that can induce many types of personality dysfunctions among JWs.
It took over a year for me to completely divorce my mental indoctrinations. It took countless hours of studying everything I had been taught and re-evaluating them and how they had affected me. I would still be in that process if I had not had access to the thorough, well-researched books by Ray Franz. I went through many painful evenings, and yet I knew that this was a very important process, if I was to regain my life and my find my true identity. Of course, that was only a start, but it sure feels good to finally start.
I also grieve for those who are still deceived, many of whom I love and care about personally. I must remember that they will find out when they need to and, in many cases, when they will permit themselves to question beliefs that will shatter the very foundation upon which they have built their lives, and how they relate to themselves and the world and to God.

Hey Path!
I didn't know we could say f*ck on this forum! I wish someone had told me sooner! F*ck!

I was just wondering if everyone realizes that this thread is now (with this post) officially more popular than Masturbation - how serious is it? on this forum?! (newbies: see Stats link at top of page)
This thread is now second only to "Preacher Jimmy Swaggart and JW lawyers"!
Now don't we all feel better about ourselves?
See, we can be serious about subjects other than masturbation!

Seven,
You say you want a revolution? Well, you know, we all want to change the world.
You say you got a real solution? Well, you know, we'd all love to see the plan.
You say you'll change the constitution? Well, you know, we all want to change your head.
You tell me it's the institution? Well, you know, you better free your mind instead.
Don't you know it's gonna be alright?
btw, 7, I've been dying to ask, what's up with the Vatican City location on your profile? Is that somewhere in Vermont or Kentucky maybe?

just picture this.. two jehovah's witnesses walking through the local mall or shopping center on saturday morning doing what most active jws do on saturday.
trying to get in their hours to report to big brother, or in this case, mother.. the two witnesses are doing street work.
one of the witnesses is a well known jw elder in the congregation.
Seven of ten (or is that seven often?),
I want to congratulate you for having the initiative to read posts on this forum. That in itself makes a positive statement about you. It is a good start in allowing yourself to think for yourself and question what you have been taught. The truth has nothing to fear from examination, does it?
We are no stranger to the anger and frustration that you seem to be feeling! Most of us that post here have been in that place at one time or another. That is one reason that some of us no longer support that organization, because of the narrow interpretation du jour imposed upon its members. I would encourage you to read more of the recent posts before you hastily dismiss us as "losers", however.
I believe that you will find most to be genuine, loving, and sincere. Most still believe in God, even though we have been burned by religions of men. I hope that you will forgive us if we are insensitive to the feelings of sincere, active members of JWs. You see, many of us have suffered greatly at the hands of the religion, and being human, we sometimes need to vent here.
I have been somewhat presumptuous in speaking for the group that posts here, but I believe I have a pretty good idea of what they are about. If you would like to post a thoughtful defense of why you believe that God will only save Jehovah's Witnesses I for one will be happy to respond to it. You may enjoy reading many interesting comments already posted on the subject - see posts entitled "Do you believe" and "Why does God permit evil?", among others.
