How did you feel on Christmas as a JW child?
by cookiemaster inthis is obviously a question for born-ins like me.
so, how did christmas feel to you as a child?
to me it was awful.

It was the crappiest time ever, I would have loved to have believed in Santa and all the magic associated with it, and sing Carols, which are far more fun to sing then the high pitched dreary Kingdom songs we had to sing. We were given gifts from non-jw Grand-parents but always felt guilty. Going back to school was a nightmare. I made sure my child was free to celebrate all the lovely traditions in a guilt free way. -

Feeling rejected
by Esmeralda001 injust a little disclaimer: english isn't my first language (i'm from france) thus the poor writing skills.here is the situation: i'm not a jw.
however, i'm in the process of becoming one.
in fact, i'm studying with the jw's, and i'll proceed to become an unbaptized publisher as soon as i finish the first book.to make a long story short i was introduced to the truth when i was 18een.

Esmeralda001 I was a born-in and still experienced constant criticism until I was old enough to break free, My hair was too long/too wild/to sexual , my make up always wrong, I dressed in stylish but unusual clothes to suit MY personality but that was always commented upon, and it was always the Elders wives that had to make the comments. I never felt good enough for them so believe me when I tell you that this will NEVER change. If you moved to another congregation someone would soon treat you this way. The fact you are still at University is enough for them to think your heart is not with the 'Truth'. Continue your bible study if you wish, but please be aware that this type of treatment is not unique to you and will continue.

Paradise sharks will eat seaweed and lions will eat pineapples...What ?? Dinosaurs ate patatoes!!!

I remember asking about dinosaurs and being told that dinosaurs were around during the time of Adam and they all just lived amongst each other. I said No Way ! surely the dinosaurs would have eaten all the other smaller animals and man but No.. they all lived harmoniously .. Who Knew ! -

For the Supporters of Those Who Love Jehovah
by lovesjehovah ini am jehovah's witness, despite some of the questionable teachings, crimes, and other outlandish behaviors of specific people affiliated with the religion.
i know that my relationship with jehovah is not influenced by any outside factors.
i do not condone any crime.

My mother had re-connected with the JW's shortly before her death, but as I was in control of organising her funeral and she had stated that she wanted a very simple, no fuss funeral I invited the Witnesses that had been the closest to her, so literally just 4, and one elder. He asked if I would like him to say anything at the grave side and I said yes, he kept it brief and just skirted on her faith. I was glad about that and he brought humour to the event as well. So for that I thank them, they came to the small wake I held afterwards too, and were very gracious to the group of people that had gathered there. I will comment on the ones that damaged my childhood but also give credit where it's due. Maybe this is an oiption for people too !

Did you expect all non-Witnesses to die at Armageddon?
by Apognophos inapologies if this has been asked before, but i couldn't find a thread where the focus was specifically this yes-or-no question.
reach back in your memories to when you were at the peak of your faith in the religion, and tell me honestly:.
"did you, personally, believe that non-witnesses would die at armageddon, even if they hadn't gotten to hear the message at all?".

As a child it really was pushed into me that ONLY JW's would survive, but I wondered about people like my dear Father, who never joined the cult, but never stopped my mother from going and dragging us children with her, and providing bus fare for her to go on Field sevice, and provided food for the many free loading pioneers that we were 'encouraged' to support with meals.. SO why should he be wiped out ?

from the new wt:.
what can be done to assist brothers and sisters who suffer from adverse reactions to fragrances?any who are sensitive to fragrances face a difficult challenge.

But you know that it would only ever be the Sisters that would be asked to refrain from wearing perfumes, never the Brothers with their over-powering aftershaves..

Children calling jw adults uncle and auntie, when did that start?
by awakening ini cant figure out when the auntie and uncle thing started or why.
it sure is a peadophiles dream to have a kid they dont know call them uncle!
they are now in a special relationship.
-

I really hated having to do this as a child growing up .. Why was I forced to call people Aunty and Uncle when they were not related to me ? It felt so wrong and I had no affection for these people. It made a shy child even more quiet as I resented addressing these people. Not something I ever did with my child.

What Was Your Opinion of Elder's Wives?
by minimus ini think that many of them were saints.
some were bitches and others seemed like they hated their status.
many wives were very good examples and were more "qualified" than their elder husbands.. .

I found some to be more of an 'Elder' than their husbands, they were elevated and very judgemental.. I especially remember one from when I was a youngster in 'The Truth' who hated my long hair and fashionable dress.. they seemed to imply it was wanton to have long hair. She cut her childrens' hair very short and dressed them in long skirts, almost like the Amish so I was frown upon greatly. I heard elders wifes contadict what other elders had spoken about during a talk.. I think the power got to some of them. This particular woman wanted me to play Jezabel in a drama.. needless to say I declined and as soon as I could, I got out and my life began.
