I look at the title, and how many responses are on the topic. I like the ones with only a couple of pages of responses, as they take less time to read and I can move on to another subject. Fluff questions are often easy waiste of time readings

The worse thing I ever saw done on a message board, this is bad!
by spiritwalker inonce, i attended another message board for awhile, a few years ago.
i did not post a lot, as that boards topic did not interest me much and i could just read and enjoy the conversation without interaction.
while there, i witnessed what can only be described as, "the worse thing i have ever seen on a message board.".

Once, I attended another message board for awhile, a few years ago. I did not post a lot, as that boards topic did not interest me much and I could just read and enjoy the conversation without interaction. While there, I witnessed what can only be described as, "the worse thing I have ever seen on a message board."
This is the set up. A member of that board, who only posted for a short while, suddenly decided to say they had cancer. Which, as you might imagine, caused a lot of people to support them. They went through all the stages and got all sorts of support. Soon they announced they had died, through a friend who stepped in for them and posted the message, people were all sad and in support. I could not believe how much people were reacting to this event, considering the limitation of the message boards. Well as you might imagine it was an emotional time. What was even worse, it was a 100% fake. How do I know this?
Because later, when I got to know another poster, they admitted to it and felt terrible. They never thought it would get so emotional and so out of hand and they just wanted people to forget about it and leave the topic alone. Before they knew it, they had messages e-mailed to them, flowers sent, and even calls to the house. As people were so touched, that they wanted to do something. In time, the memory faded and that poster learned their lesson. Yet how sick is that?
I guess it taught me something very valuable about message boards. That people can and will lie and fake others out. In life, face-to-face, it can be done and it does happen. Although it is not as easy as it is on a message board. It spells out a very sick personality, and yet it ruins my emotional attachment to anyone who might really have a situation like this. Why? Well, because you always wonder, when you read messages, "is this really real?"
I would like to stress, so that this post does not cause any problems, that this did not take place on any message boards associated with Jehovah's Witnesses, active or not active. I just thought I would share my experience and perhaps hear other's examples of the worse things you have ever seen done on a message board. Ever seen someone ruin their marriage? Ever see someone get another person fired for posting while at work, during a flame war? Ever seen someone call the police on another person to report a faults report? Etc.

If the organization is a diamond, what are we???
by spiritwalker inas a witness, i remember the illustration of the diamond, in regards to the organization.
it referenced the fact that a diamond, when examined from afar, looks perfect and like something of high value.
yet when you looked closer, it has minor scratches and flaws that make up the large more perfect picture.

There are psychiatrists who might help you or you could consult an elder.
Are you trying to say that disagreement with you, means that a person needs help? Are you placing yourself as the center to reality, by which others must base their feelings? If so, that is a very interesting response to something that I stated and makes me smell what you are cooking.

As a Witness, I remember the illustration of the diamond, in regards to the organization. It referenced the fact that a diamond, when examined from afar, looks perfect and like something of high value. Yet when you looked closer, it has minor scratches and flaws that make up the large more perfect picture. Of course, this was meant to show that we should see the organization as something beautiful and priceless, even if it looked like something less on an individual closer basis. What then of the online former Jehovah's Witness forums? Well, I have read many of the boards and examined many of the online games people play and the arguments that take place. Along with other messes and negative problems. Yet there are good people on these boards and positive things happening, even if the far off image of all the boards is one that makes the group look very angry and negative. So I think the best description or illustration is that we are like a pile of crap. In that we look like something that stinks and is nasty from far away, yet if you look closer into the pile, you will find a lot of nutrition that did not get digested or corrupted by anger and maybe even a peanut or corn kernel that is just something that looks out of place and unfinished. Maybe that is why so many people stay in the organization and so many people leave these online forums in time. As a diamond, even with flaws, is still a diamond. Yet a pile of crap, even with a few positive exceptions, still remains a stinking pile of crap. Of course, none of this is meant to insults anyone. It is more of a reality of what I have seen from reading a lot of former Jehovah's Witness forums and the problems that persist in the small group of former Witnesses that post online. I must state that I do think some intelligent, wonderful and friendly people post on these boards. Yet, whenever I leave and come back to see what is happening on the different boards, I see more of a what I described then what I would like too see. So perhaps it is time to face reality, even if it stinks.

Apostate organizations, will they take down the religion?
by spiritwalker inone of the main themes i have noticed to former jehovah?s witnesses boards, is the mentioning of apostate jehovah?s witness organizations and publications.
while i realize the reason behind these organizations, i also see them as far less powerful then many would like to think.
not that their efforts are wasted, as i know many take a lot of passion and time to their work.

We are not a cult but a fellowship of those who still love Jehovah, His Christ and Holy Spirit, and believe in showing love to others.
I don't know. I am into Wicca, Shamanism and consider myself a full Pagan in my thinking and do not believe that Christianity is anything other then myth. So I do not think that sums me up at all.

The point that spiritwalker makes that intrigues me is that non-JWs already view JWs as cultists and therefore already anticipate "cultist" problems.
It took awhile for that to sink in with me too. You always heard about those experiences and quotes of people saying such good things about us. Yet in that, like I mentioned before, we never heard of those people becoming Witnesses. Most people just saw us as that little odd religion, or cult, and tried not to offend us. Yet, many did not want to ask us questions or to get to deep in discussion. As they knew our religion, much like all cults, was very into converting people and asking meant opening the door to preaching. While Lady Lee mentioned that she does not find many people who feel this way. I must state that I have meet more people who see the religion as a cult, then those who saw it as a odd religion. Heck, some churches use the Witness religion in talks as an example of dangerous cults. I know of several local churches that do this locally.

Do you see yourself or others in this list?
by spiritwalker inas a long time poster on other message boards.
i have often noticed, that despite the topic, there are always certain personalities on each.
i guess it is kind of like the congregation, in that no matter what one you were in, there were characters that matched up with the one you left.

It's the label. I ask you to replace it with the Nihlist.
I looked that up and yes, it is a good title for what I said. Thanks.
Where do you find yourself in these different catagories.??
I see myself as a mix of the teacher and the debater. Thanks for asking.

sounds like another splinter off the old tree to me
I agree and I am glad that poster said what they did. It did proove what I was saying, that there are organizations among former Witnesses that think they will bring down the WT.

I agree, we can see ourselves as a little of many. Although, since I am new here, I can not categorize anyone. I just always enjoy the fact that it does not matter the subject of the board, I can often see these personalities online with me.

Perhaps the word used, "organization," causes some problem here because it generally refers to some kind of structure and goal. I have researched enough to say that the word organization can and does apply to many apostate groups. Whether they be a local organization or even a online one.
Organization : A structure through which individuals cooperate systematically to conduct business.
While the word often brings up such thoughts as, religions, corporations and charity groups. There are apostate organizations mentioned on many former Witness boards. As example, it did not take me very long to see links and references to a group called; silentlambs.org. When I had communication with this group, I got the strong feeling that I was speaking with an organization and not just a social group. Another organization I know of, is several locally to where I live that organize protest and appear on news programs and produce publications. While your own personal interest and feelings, may differ from my own, I think the word organization can have a strict and loose interpretation and the way things look to yourself are not always the way they are perceived by others. Which often, for me, allows me the ability to see myself from a different prospective. I see things different, based on my own experiences online.
