Much as I would have liked having a young body for all eternity, I've accepted that its just not going to happen.

Facial Hair and J.W.'s
by Coop Man ini have always wondered why witnesses are not "allowed" to have facial hair.
when i asked a local elder just a few weeks ago (he had no idea i was inactive, just happened to bump into him while my parents were visiting from out of town), his explanation was that "in some countries, it is totally acceptable to have beards, goatees etc...., but in the u.s. of a., facial hair is a sign of rebellion.
so, the local or territorial opinions on beards is what drives the local congregations policies.

I used to have a psychologist who had a well-trimmed beard, and was a very respected man. It's not considered taboo anymore.
It'll be years before the WTS drops their ridicolous opinion on beards, the GB have a specific moral perspective due to growing up in the earlier parts of the century, and expect all the loyal dubs to be submissive and do things their way.

Does anyone have a WT/AWAKE cover pertaining to the Occult?
by DebraDoll inplease help!
i have a huge power-point presentation due by friday, and need some depiction from the wtbts concerning the "dangers" of the occult or spiritism.
it deals with the tremendous variations of our world and how "evil" is defined and relative to each individual (ex; the i-ching is vital to confucianism, but feared by jw's, the crusades sought to "save" everyone by forcing conversion to catholicism, but tortured and blinded non believers with agonizing hot iron rods, etc.....)

I don't have it on hand, but I seem to remember the cover of an awake from awhile back showing some sort of dark occult alter. Still, you can probably find dozens of articles on the WT CD condemning anything relating to the paranormal or esoteric as being "spiritism". Even as a loyal dub I hated reading their opinions on things like yoga.

Is anything sacred to you anymore?

Being able to be alive, at this very moment, is the most sacred thing to me.

Organized Dub Rave Parties...Easy sex optional!
by yxl1 inmy wife had a long drive home from north yorkshire with her younger brother (who is a dub) last night.
she was asking him questions about his social life and was very surprised at his response.
apparently, each week in london some brothers organize raves in various hired nightclubs.

I was pretty surprised when I heard about this. Witness kids actually get into this sort of thing? I must come from more of a rural redneck town than I thought, if something like that happened in my area the elders would go absolutely bonkers, the R&F would faint out of shock, and we would be hearing about it for years.
Now, for the most important question, can anyone direct me to the nearest rave?

A rather annoying occurance...

Here I am, sitting in the college library, reading this site, when some guy walks by me, turns around and glances at my computer. He steps back, takes a closer look at it and says "Hmm, what site is that? Jehovahs Witness? Hmm, I see...just curious" then turns and walks away. Needless to say, I was rather irritated. I'm not sure if the guy was a fellow-apostate or not (though I can't see why else this site would catch his eye), but if he was then judging by the tone of his voice he probably thought I was still a loyal dub or something.
The thing that really annoyed me though, was him coming up to my computer and looking over my shoulder. How is what I'm looking at any of his business? Has anyone else ever had this happen when they were on a site about witnesses?

Were You Afraid of The DEMONS???
by minimus inmost witnesses believe satan and his demons are looking at them 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
were you one of those?
how did you handle stories of demons, witchcraft, etc.??

I do think that there are hostile non-organic entities. After all, if you believe that consciousness survives death, then its not that big of a stretch to believe that evil people live on as evil spirits. However, based on what I've researched about the occult, most evil spirits have relatively little contact with humans. Even some of the non-human negs that can cause harm aren't necessarily evil in the sense the WTS thinks they are. They're no more evil than oh, say, an aggresive spider.

Alot.
I can pursue the career I want to pursue without having to worry about what people in the congregation will think of it. I can study anything I want without having to feel guilty. I can read fantasy novels and Harry Potter books without having to feel guilty.
I can meditate without having to wonder whether the devil might possess me. I can associate with everyday people without having an us vs. them mentality. I can think for myself.
Knowing that the majority of the world's population is not going to be murdered by a psychotic tribal diety hell bent on getting everone to do things his way and honor his name.
There are still some problems in my life that have to weeded out, but I have more confidence than I did before.

Anyone who would resort to using threats from the scriptures probably feels very insecure about the validity of the position they're defending in the first place.
