  do you consider the ones you left behind in the organization as brothers and sisters?.

  the ones who don't shun me are my brothers and sisters!

  i have a friend/sister who is still in the organization.

  I've had some good friends in the kingdom hall who I was happy to call my brothers/sisters, people who were wonderful in spite of being witnesses. I hope that they'll still be friendly to me when I do one day leave, but I'm not getting my hopes up. Based on what I've read on this forum, I'll probably end up being shocked by the behavior of some of them when I fade out. Some of the people in the congregation though, I never once thought of them as being brothers or sisters, and I'm sure they didn't feel the same way about me.

  Even for those I'm friendly with, I don't feel that I can call them brothers or sisters. Back when I was still a loyal dub, the people who were friendliest to me were always my non-witness buddies. They were the ones who actually sought out to associate with me. I would always have to make plans myself with friends in the congregation in order to do anything with them, they were always busy with their various cliches and I was the oddball out of the group.

  but we certainly should be compassionate and understanding when dealing with those who have more difficulty in exercising it, even if their lack of self-control causes us some personal discomfort.

  but people differ by nature.

  it is what he did that caused the death of 2 innocent people.. remember david and his sin of adultery with bath-sheba.

  Here's one part that particularily caught my eye...

  One of Jehovah's Witnesses living in Germany was employed as a technical communications clerk. His work included monitoring some 30 different television and radio programs. When interferences occurred, he had to give his attention to the program in order to pinpoint the problem. He says: "Interferences invariably seemed to occur just at the wrong time, just when scenes of violence or sex were being shown. The bad scenes seemed to stay in my head for days if not weeks, as though they had been branded into my brain." He admits that this had a negative effect on his spirituality: "I tend to be rather hotheaded, so scenes of violence made it difficult for me to exercise self-control. The sex scenes caused tension between me and my wife. I had a daily battle. In order not to lose the battle, I decided to look for a new job, even if it meant less pay. Not long ago I succeeded in finding one. My wish has been fulfilled."

  I can remember reading this part two weeks ago and rolling my eyes. This guy is either pathetically weak minded, or he was greatly exxagerating things. Sometimes I wonder if these experiences that get printed in the Watchtower are just people elaborating on their silly day to day dub lives, or are completely made up. Although then again, I can imagine a dub quiting his job over something so utterly ridicolous. I'll bet he thought the demons were manipulating the radio waves.

  The sooner the rest of the country follows massachusetts, the better.

  Of course, we can just imagine how the WTS will respond to all this, they'll try to paint what is infact a triumph of human rights as a sign that "morality" is on the decline and the end is near.

  Getting drunk a sin?

  i have a pretty interesting perspective on this.....especially since i once had all of my privledges removed because i had admitted to an elder that i was hungover..... the scriptures state that drunkards will not inherit gods' kingdom, nor will gluttons.... gluttony is the practice of over-eating, much the same is being a drunkard is one who is continuously drunk.

  so, in my feeble mind, getting drunk "once-in-a-while" is not a sin, just the same as overeating at mcdonalds or at grandma's house is not a sin.. am i incorrect in my reasoning?.

  I almost never drink alcohol. I don't why, just never had the urge to. Still, I do like the occasional tequila or wine.

  The Bible is not the only religious text or tradition that condemns drunkeness, Buddhism for instance forbids monks from consuming any wine whatsover, the reason being that it is detrimental to meditation and spiritual cultivation.

  I don't think getting a little drunk in a great long while is any big deal, but something that should be avoided. Personally though, I find gluttony more disgusting...

  Where are we all going.....What happens........?

  i watch families crowding around a loved one in hospital whom i'm taking care of who die......sometimes they're old, but that doesn't diminish their pain, still the hurt is palpable.

  sometimes they are young, this increases their pain and ours even more.

  a death occurs, we feel hopeless, they are distraught beyond belief..... what to say?

  Great posts everyone.

  I agonize quite a bit over what the truth of our lives is. I've read lots of different views on what happens after we die, some which seem to be backed up by personal experience, but I simply don't know for sure. All I have is this deep conviction, an inner feeling that there must be some sort of higher purpose to us and this universe, that there is more to our short lives. My personal thought is that we were infact the ones who created the universe, that our present lives are the constantly recycling expression of spirit that allows existence to become conscious of itself. Human evolution and evolution of the universe go hand in hand, as both are the ever learning dream of consciousness. Suffering is the necessary opposite through which life must grow.

  However, just formulating these intellectual interpretations is not enough, I want to experience it directly. I refuse to ever give up the search, I refuse to believe that we are nothing more than rotting lumps of carbon that accidentally (and tragically) became consciousness.

  what 'age' do the perfect humans, better put, what age will everyone look like in the perfect world?

  it would be kinda weird to see your great great great great great great grandma the same age as you, u know?

  Facial Hair and J.W.'s

  i have always wondered why witnesses are not "allowed" to have facial hair.

  when i asked a local elder just a few weeks ago (he had no idea i was inactive, just happened to bump into him while my parents were visiting from out of town), his explanation was that "in some countries, it is totally acceptable to have beards, goatees etc...., but in the u.s. of a., facial hair is a sign of rebellion.

  so, the local or territorial opinions on beards is what drives the local congregations policies.

  I used to have a psychologist who had a well-trimmed beard, and was a very respected man. It's not considered taboo anymore.

  It'll be years before the WTS drops their ridicolous opinion on beards, the GB have a specific moral perspective due to growing up in the earlier parts of the century, and expect all the loyal dubs to be submissive and do things their way.

  please help!

  i have a huge power-point presentation due by friday, and need some depiction from the wtbts concerning the "dangers" of the occult or spiritism.

  it deals with the tremendous variations of our world and how "evil" is defined and relative to each individual (ex; the i-ching is vital to confucianism, but feared by jw's, the crusades sought to "save" everyone by forcing conversion to catholicism, but tortured and blinded non believers with agonizing hot iron rods, etc.....)

  I don't have it on hand, but I seem to remember the cover of an awake from awhile back showing some sort of dark occult alter. Still, you can probably find dozens of articles on the WT CD condemning anything relating to the paranormal or esoteric as being "spiritism". Even as a loyal dub I hated reading their opinions on things like yoga.
