Shamus, my bad. I don't have the time to read 200 of his posts though... sorry if you were offended. If he's such a zelot, why do you people give him the time of day anyhow? I've moderated many forums, and those type of people kind of like the attetion, just ignore him and he'll get bord and go away.

Good article about the NWT
by starfish422 inhttp://www.freeminds.org/doctrine/nwt.htm
this is from the freeminds website.
i love reading quotes in their full context and realizing how much the "brothers" have chopped them up to suit their own purposes.

Are meeting styles different in particular regions?
by somebodylovesme inthe meetings i have been to (in the rural midwest) have been the quietest, tamest, and most boring religious events i have ever been to.
they make the lutheran church i used to go to (in which no one was under 60 except my family!
) look exciting.

That's so interesting... I wonder why enthusiasm and fakeness are correlated? Strange.
You and me both. I had my first taste of these type of people when I moved to SC, I thought it was great... everyone was nice, they'd hug and kiss you as you'd come into the hall and want to talk to you. But you learn something about those people when you stick around them for enough time, they are about as deep as a puddle. There are some who are not fake, but even those people can get infected with it... I find myself doing the fake thing, walking around flattering everyone just like pretty much everyone else does.
Here's something else you won't find in the north... group speaker/co hospitaltiy. It's where instead of a family feeding a sunday speaker or a CO the whole bookstudy does ala buffet style. Southren food can be downright awful and the sisters who do cook the food will be offended if you don't try everything... I'm a vegan, so.. lol. Food choices rarley include things with vegtables in them... mostly meat dishes, some bookstudys make it a pratices to have whole fried turkys... while others stick to hams, fried chicken and pork dishes. Cornbread are one of the staples of a soul food, also to be found at these gatherings are things like rice & beans with meat like chicken, mac & cheese and even more rice. A popular dessert made by the sisters is Red velvet cake, so that is always there. The entire sunday afternoon is spent eating, it's quite disgusting... the quantity of food served is massive. These days, what you'll find is people from the morning meeting going to the speaker hospitatly and then when it rolls around to 4 PM, they'll head over to the one for the afternoon meeting... and I'm not kidding here, we've had people D/fed for gluttony of all things.

I've seen all sorts here in the US. To the north, people tend to be quiter singers... the talks and speakers are smarter and their talks tend to be dry. In the south.. heavens... people sing at the top of their lungs, the black and sometimes white speakers get excited and they get preachy... during the talks, the audince will do things like say "mmmhmmm!" and shake their heads in agreement. Totatly diffrent from the north. In fact, this one in the south I go to has it's own graveyard. Story has it some of the people who wanted to join the congergation in the 70's-80's decided otherwise because the hall didn't provide a graveyard like their current church. Imagine that.
Something I also see between the two... people from the north are more reserved... but they are also genuine when you get to know them. People from the south tend to be open and fun to be with at first, but it's bad because they are not genuine, they tend to be fake. It's just something I've noticed from all of the 'friends' from the congergations I've known.

Mickey Mouse or Jesus Christ
by shotgun inthe last convention i went to was about three months ago now....ahhh i remember it well...zzzzzzz.
the c.o got on the stage and counseled ones to plan theocratic vacations instead of regular type hot-spot get away vacations.. he then proceeded to say many brothers spend their families vacations by taking them to disneyland instead of a bethel tour.
(which most children would love).

I remember they used to push bus tours in our kingdumb hall. My family ended up deciding to go on one of those 'vacations'... it was utter hell. We got on this old squeeky bus, and headed down to NY with tons of other JWs from surrounding halls with a stop at every burger king in site, it was a 12 hour trip. They unloaded us at a dirty Ramada Inn and the next day we went to bethel -- two hours away from the Ramada. We only had 2 hours untill we had to go, and the next stop was Patterson. Our wonderful driver didn't know that on that day visitors were not allowed untill we arrived after the 4 hour trip. We went back to the ramada, spent the night and then loaded back on for the trip home... I remember it was raining and there were leaks on the roof of the bus. Suffice to say, I didn't enjoy that trip.

The Society's Videos
by seeitallclearlynow inwhat does everybody think of the various videos produced by the society?
i have one in particular in mind that i could not stand even while i was still "in".
had a really "bad attitude" when i tried to watch it in preparation for one of the service meetings in that series when they were covering some of the videos.

Oh, something else... they are working on putting all the videos on to the DVD format. They now have the 3 no-blood videos they produced out on DVD's, and the rest of them are supposed to follow suit. The WT/Awake tapes are being replaced with MP3 Cd's... DVD's and CDs are far cheaper to send and produce I suppose.

You guys are sooo behind! I will have to encode one of their newest ones.. it's about respect. They have been making live action drama videos that are like 50 or so minutes long... complete nightmare. The respect one is so darn cheesey.. my mom fell asleep 5 minutes through the opening message by the GB. My sister was visiting a friend in Bethel when it came out, they had some big event where they showed it on a big screen and had munchies afterwards... but, we all hated the new one... 50 minutes of hell.

Can't see the pic, but if your parents are ok with it... go for it. I personaly keep my hair very spikey and wild.. sometimes half neat and combed, and the rest all messy and bizzar... pphf.. Elders-shemelders. They asked me to change, the even told my dad that he might not be a MS anymore if I keep syling my hair how I please... I asked them 'where does say that you can do that in your little green book?'. That one elder don't bother me much anymore. :-P
