Domestic Violence?
by alamb inhas anyone ever addressed the incidence of domestic violence in witness families?
i am relatively new here and don't want to cover old ground.. thinking back, i can name multiple examples of households in each congregation i attended where domestic violence was evident.. i have an active protective order against my ex.
who is still active in the congregation he attends.

This all sounds so familiar.
When I confronted the elders about my home, they asked my husband if it was true to which he said "no" (duh) and I got the backlash at home. Another time they came over and asked if he actually hit me with a closed fist or was it more of a slap. I was also read the scripture about how an elders wife is to behave and this was my duty.I grinned of the other stories about late-night rades. My mother woke me up at 3 a.m. once and sat me on the couch and then sat across the room from me glaring the whole time. When I asked her what was up she said "I am upset and if I can't sleep, neither can you." I asked her what was wrong and she told me to figure it out. I'm still working on that one.
I wonder if a website addressing this with some support links and safe-houses as mentioned would help anyone?

I have an active Protective Order against my ex. who is still active in the congregation he attends. His fellow elders don't want to know about it and warned me, "You just have to watch what cultures you marry into." (He was hispanic) "Our sisters in the Far East regularly undergo much more than you did." Another elder readily admitted to leaving bruises on his wife and "she has never gotten a Protective Order."
I asked if there was a clause in the fruits of the spirit for certain ethnicities....no answer
Just wondering. -

Directed By Holy Spirit My Ass !!!
by Big Jim indont you think that it is stupid when you hear the dubs say that all appointments are made by the jehovahs holy spirit?.
how many times have you heard of elders/ms etc.
that were commiting all sorts of wrong doings while at the same time serving and passing judgement on others.. i remember when i was appointed ms there was a brother that was appointed at the same time, that accepted the assignment and served for almost a year before they found out he was commiting adultery all the while.. then you have the pedophiles that operate within the congregation some being elders etc.. i know for a fact that i could be a fornicator/drug user/closet queer/ are anything bad and keep it secret and i could move up the ranks as high as i pleased.. hell i could even be a undercover apostate/fornicator/all of the above and still get appointed if i kissed enough ass.. i could pioneer and lie about the hours, they would never figure it out.

I agree.
15 years ago I questioned an elder as to how an elder I knew could have been a pedophile and served as an elder for over 30 years, dying as an elder. Only after his death did victims come forward.I asked how he could sit on committees and offer prayers in behalf of God's people where the Holy Spirit was OBVIOUSLY in control. What bearing did his little secret have on judicial cases he presided over? That also explained why none of his three daughters stayed with the organization. They were grown and gone when he came to our hall and no one questioned anything or thought they had reason to. Were they viewed as stumbled sheep or apostates? And where did the fault lie in either case?
I didn't get an answer.

Should mentally challenged be baptize as JW's
by spike inwe have a son of legal age, only mentally 5-8 years living with jw relatives.
he studies with the presiding overseer in the knowledge book and goes in service.
he wants to get baptized like his older brother.

A funny story:
We had a mentally challenged young man study with our local PO. He was soon baptized and even made a regular pioneer. A week or so later he knocked on my family's door.............
as a mormon missionary. Talk about leading a double life. He was doing both simultaneously. Gotta' give him credit for trying. Pioneering alone burned me out. -

I plan to use this approach with my children, although not mentally challenged, not of age:
Since the change in baptismal questions in '85, they would be joining a legal organization. I would try to block, with the aid of the courts, them joining an organization before they are of legal age.p.s. Another prerequisite: Read 2 little books for me.

from jw to athiest
by notwal03 inthe jehovahs witnesses, though misled in their doctrine, are still a passionate people for god.
why is it that so many who were once so devoted to god have turned from him.
do you not realize that religion is man made, and therefore, all church's doctrines are subject to mistakes.

Before I start, welcome to the board.
Some of us, after having left the organization, searched for meanings in the prophecies we have read so many times in the scriptures. Without the formula put forth by the society though, things are quite different. Please take some time and check into Preterism and Partial Preterism. It may be worth your while and help with future discussions on the board. Some of us have found it very enlightening, I know I have. -

Prevalence of JW Suicides - Real or Imagined?
by AMNESIAN inin one or two recent threads i've seen reference to the possibility of a rising number of jw suicides being another of the organization's very dark realities about which it is vigilant in keeping concealed from its pub populace.
is there anyone reasonably informed regarding this?
is there reason to suppose the incidence ratio among jws is any higher than among any peoples/religion?

I have known 5 suicides/murders:
1. Woman in her 50's returns from field service, cooks lunch and sets the table, and hangs herself in the garage.
2. Young man studying shot himself.
3. South American woman married elder from U.S. Found he was a tyrant and shot herself.
4. Dear friend has attempted many times and has finally left the Borg. Glad to say he is happily engaged to a worldly woman who truly cares about him.
5. This was in the local news. I went with the sister on this study. A woman was studying and came to the part regarding life in the new order. She stabbed to death her 5 year old son and attempted but failed to kill herself. Claimed to want to get in the new order faster. Went to prison and is now a baptized publisher. How sweet.A side note: I have questioned a local psychologist regarding this and she said an overwhelmingly large percent of her clientelle are JW.

The most frightening haircut of my life ...
by dedalus inthis morning i went for a haircut, and since my usual stylist (caroline, quick with the clippers and a joke, does magic with my floppy mop of hair), was out, i told the receptionist i'd settle for whoever was available.
after a moment i was handed over to "winnie," whom i recognized as a witness from a neighboring congregation -- alas, not before she'd roughly dunked my head in the sink.
i was pretty sure she recognized me, too.. "so how have you been, dedalus," she said.. "um, just fine, and you?

Thanks for the giggle.
By the way, I'm a hair-doer, licensed and all so if you're ever in this neck of the woods, shop's open. I am thinking of running Apostate Specials.
