Watchtower rips off Disney

no doubt this point has been made before but i see no harm in emphasising it.

my family heard on the grapevine that "the society" had people who used to animate for disney.

well , if that is true , it certainly shows.

Uhm.... i hate to douse this thread but moana came out in 2016. Caleb and sofia were well before that....

however it does highlight something worth noting. Animators have long been immitating mammals distinct features when newborn. Large round eyes are one of those characteristics and it promites feelings of maternal or paternal care in adults and feelings of friendship in children. Its become very common for animators to use those exaggerated features as a subtle que to make the characters appear more friendly. The “world” has been doing it large scale for 15 or 20 years, its no supprise the wt is using the technique as well.

My live as video gamer and JW

one of my strangest things that happened to me during my life as jw was that i loved (and still i do) video games.

i started playing super mario bros in a nintendo entertainment system (nes) from my cousin and from there i developed an attachment to the video games.

i remember that i asked for a gift the nes to my dad and my wish come true!

Dlc and season passes are plauge, a way to take the cost a game from 60$ to 120$.... it feels very dishonest to me and i stopped supporting that nonense

New Instructions?

i may have missed it, but i just heard from a local elder that there are "new" instructions for how the two one day assembly's are to be conducted and handled......fifty-nine pages worth.

he said they will now all be put on the same as the regional conventions.

did i miss that letter/orders from "mother"?

In a surprise to me, Im somewhat interested in this nonevent. If there are changes id expect wifi to have them in hand soon enough. My half ass guess would be a move toward videos so that the message at all conventions would be universal and less room for individual variation. It seemed that was the theme at the small part of the district convention err excuse me regional convention i saw. Nothing earth shattering but a steady march toward futher homogenization

Anyone recall someone disfellowshipped for gluttony???

gluttony seems to be a sin that jw's like to ignore .there are several scriptures that point out that gluttony is a sin, proverbs 23:20-21 "do not join those who gorge themselves on meat".....also i read somewhere that 1% is the number of disfellowshipped jw's each year......how do prove someone is a glutton and not just a person who love food???

I would respectfully disagree that my examples apply to a small minority. The bmi essentially describes and expects every human in terms of a marathon runner. Very very lean with minimal muscle mass.

This isnt ‘typical’ accross human devleopment nor desirable anymore more so than my other end of the spectrum example of a champion body builder.

I reject any description of humans writ large that dosent allow for individual variation. When we describe relative health a simple body fat percentage (which considers muscle weight) is far more reasonable and useful.

As for me being triggered... lol i wasnt aware that i had been and cannot find any reason to believe i was. My pointing out the unreasonableness and flaws of the ancient bmi as a measure of anything other than outdated science seems to have been an issue for some on this thread so i expanded on my perspective and reasons for believing as i do. Also my statment that a cult had no busines organizing community shunning over gluttony also seemed to bother some (you specifically) so we have come full circle on this... the gb and the organization of jw’s as a whole dosent touch the subject being overweight and, as an aside, i dont like the bmi as indication of relative health. I hope this clears up any misconceptions but i get the feeling it will only lead to more passive aggressive bickering over something we essentially agree on, minus the bmi chart. Unless there is some specific point i can contribute to this topic i will respectfully take my leave :)

why would you think thats obvious? I believe you have referred 3 times to bmi as the measure of obesity and never once used or referred to any other standard.

I object very much to people being measured by a fairly random chart with no comon sense or intelligence applied to the individual.

And yes measuring displacment by submerging the person in water is a very accurate method of measuring body fat... so is a DXA scan. Neither is possible in your own home. Therefore i mentioned two other easily obtained methods that are far more reliable and telling than the rediculious bmi chart... or wasnt that obvious?

And yes 2% body fat on a man or 10% and under on a woman is difficult and not particularly healthy to maintain for long periods. That has nothing to do with showing the flaw in the bmi chart. It only makes the point more clear as Arnold weighed 260 plus when not cut for competition and was certainly not obese at 10% body fat.

If i may ask, why does this topic seem to be such a trigger for you and what is your fascination with the bmi chart..?

I dont want to devolve this conversation too far off its intended path but the bmi is a joke and a false guide. Consider, this man is morbidly obese, at least according to the bmi

The bmi is a simple minded chart that assumes everyone is built the same. Its long been discredited as anything other than a relic of a bygone era of cookie cutter doctoring.

A simple body fat measurement using a cheap electrical resistance formula is far more accurate or properly done a measurment with caliper and tape measure is awesome as well.

The man above, while obesse by the bmi, is actually less than 2% body fat and obviously very fit.

And just to add to the above, the ridiculous logic of saying if the end had come x number of years ago you wouldnt be here... really? When does that end? Do we have to let the system go for eternity to allow everyone who will ever be born to be born, suffer and thus be resurected? Its stupid beyond words. Nobody can possibly feel sorry the supposed almighty for a choice is he is said to have made. Utter stupidity.

Oh my jp.... ive lost perspective? You seem deeply informed with my perspective on the cult and yet i cant seem to ever recall making your acquaintance or having a discussion with you vis a vie my views on the cult. Perhaps its your perspective thats a bit warped and you reading more into a simple discussion on a comparatively small matter than is really there. Have a drink and relax ;) one shot wont make you fat
