Why do religious people make claims and then refuse to back them up?
by Viviane inseveral times over the past few months i have had conversations, both here and in real life, with religious people making all sorts of interesting and conflicting claims.
i like to know how things work, so generally i will ask questions to net out what i am being told and see if it can be explained and make sense.. for instance, if someone said 2+2=4 and i asked how, there are a variety of ways that could be shown to me, a number line, physical objects being put together, counting on fingers and toes, etc.
indeed, in my personal life, i often have to explain how certain technologies work, sometimes planned, sometimes off the cuff, from a variety of group sizes to a varying degree of technical expertise.

Richard Dawkins Promotes ABC's Expose of Child Abuse in the Watchtower
by cofty inthe story is painfully familiar.
children are sexually abused in a closed-off cult that is averse to secular justice.
the victims either dont dare accuse their influential tormentors, or, if they do, no one believes them.

For all still in.... fakers. Help.
by Sofia Lose inam i alone in this feeling?
i wish i could muster the cojones needed to tell my husband "i want a divorce, move away, not be a jw anymore!".
i find myself screaming these same words over and loud inside my mind, several times a day, and yet on the outside my actions could not be more opposed to these inner feelings.. sometimes i worry that this internal conflict will cause me to go crazy.

I didnt "suggest" anything, i plainly stated that you clearly dont know your god or his representatives. Aside from the huge copy/paste job you did, do you have any personaly explanation for mathew 10:34 where jesus plainly said he did in fact come to divide, contrary to your opening post...? -

So this week dubbies read that the mean bad philistines were punished by the desert god for having his ark. The desert god punished them with (drum roll please)....... Hemroids and rats. Yep. The all powerful god of heaven and earth punished his peoples oppressors and the people who stole his precious ark with hemroids and rats. Hmmmmmm...
Ok the desert god dosent seem overly powerful there nor does he seem particularly creative. A lack of fiber can cause hemroids, no need for an all powerful diety to smite you on that and rats have been a plauge on civilization long before the philistines stole the golden fleece, er, ark.
But lets put that aside for a moment..... What happens next is where it really shows what an A hole he is.....
After giving the villians hemroids and rats as punishment, they get the hint and decide to send the golden fleece, er ark, back to our heros. They put it on a cart pulled by cows and send it on the road back to an isrealite villiage. The cart pulls up and the faithful isrealites see it and are overjoyed! As perscribed by the desert god they get some levites (from where we arnt told) who pick up the ark and they have a huge sacrifice to show how happy they are that they got the ark back.
What does the desert god do in return......? He kills 50,070 of them for the "sin" of having LOOKED AT THE ARK!!!! What the hell???? You mean to tell me that the desert god MAKES the bad guys send the ark back and then kills HIS OWN PEOPLE, the "good" guys, because they saw the ark as it came back????? And the only punishment the bad guys got for the EXACT same "crime" (looking at the ark) were hemroids and rats?
im sure ive read this before but it really struck me last night what a complete asshole the desert god is.

Hmmm it seems your user name got cut off. Clearly it should read "whenindoubtbeasanctamoniousasshole"
She didnt ask for absolution from anyone, let alone the people you try to derogatorily describe as "apostates athiests and evolutionists".
She was attempting to have a reasonable discussion.
You also very clearly do not your god or his representatives. At mathew 10:34 jesus plainly stated he came to divide and put a sword.
Further, in your arrogance and rush to be smug, its obvious you didnt actually read anyones response before catagorizing them as "apostate athiest evolutioniest ". As unappealing as your arrogance and lack of compassion and humanity are, we agree: communication with her husband is the only real solution.
Now im left wondering... Does that make you an apostate athiest evolutioniest...?
@sofia- im not a physiologist, nor do i play one on TV, so i wont pretend to diagnose your feelings or even claim i understand them 100%, my point is: dont lose hope :)

Send In The Clowns
by OneFingerSalute inas i sat through another mind numbing sermon this morning i could not help thinking that the speaker was a total clown.. lime green suit, white shirt, yellow tie, blue socks barely higher than his ankle, brown shoes, and an orange cast.
all that was missing was a big red rubber nose!
and of course everyone remarked what a wonderful talk he gave.
