Can a baptism be annulled?
by angel.face ini joined this site about 4 years ago and life was very different to say the least.
i was a jw and started the process of 'waking up' after experiencing life threatening blood loss due to complications of a pregnancy.
i was married with two kids (husband was an ms) and was a stay-at-home mom.

Unfortunately i dont have anything overly insightful to add. Mephis and simon are dead on. The basic answer is "no" with a very very specific circumstantial exception . Not gonna happen. Im very sorry.... If it were easy to get it annulled then the whole df'ing policy would fall apart. Df'ing is what keeps the organization running. Without that hammer they have no power. -

Is this a BEAUTIFUL STORY--or what?
by Terry inis this a beautiful story, or what?.
act one________.
now in an ordinary romance of the golden hollywood era, the boy goes off to war while the young lady waits nervously for his safe return.in a cary grant, debra kerr movie, the two vow to meet after a certain period of time and tragic circumstances intervene.. in my story, the young man is a conscientious objector who goes to prison instead of off to the vietnam war.

Hypothetical Question...
by JW_Rogue ini was just thinking that the org has said lots of outrageous things over it's history and most jws just continue onward without a second thought.
so my question is what do you think would have to be said from the platform or wt to get people to get up and walk out immediately?
is it even possible?

One Reason Why I Could Never Again be an Elder
by Nicholaus Kopernicus inthere appears to be several crises inflicting themselves upon the wtbts all at once.
the crises are likely related....financial difficulties - hence the increasing publicity given to contributing money.
reduced production - probably related to above (literature and building principally).

Songs that have a JW meaning?
by GrownMidget indo you have any songs that you have listened and then thought that it also works from an apostate point of view?i have always liked this song, but one time realized that i was thinking how it sounds awfully familiar, if you think about those who have lost family/friends due to leaving.this song was originally made/written because one of the actors died in a car accident.
movie was still being filmed and many spots he was needed were never finished with him.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rgkafk5djsk.

Book Review: The Hunt for Vulcan: . . . And How Albert Einstein Destroyed a Planet, Discovered Relativity, and Deciphered the Universe
by Viviane ini recently read this book and found it to be excellent.
it's the story of how we never stop knowing, how science works (even when it doesn't), how gracefully math can describe the world we live in and more.
the story begins with how sir isaac newton, author of pricipia mathematica and holder of the lucasian chair at cambridge, developed math to describe the gravity and the motion of the planets with no need god holding them in place.

Over-protective parent?
by GrownMidget ini was something like 20-21 and there was this young sister, maybe 16 who i happened to like back in the day ... uh oh ...we met in the summer convention because i made the first move while she was playing board games with her friend.
we kept in touch via skype and text messages because lived kinda far from each other.
eventually her mother heard of the stuff and said to her daughter that the chatting must stop.... well, when two people have a little crush on one another, it sure doesn't.

Lol there seems to be some misconception, a perception that i dont want my daughter to grow up or put my fingers in my ears and refuse to hear that one day she will be a woman...
Nothing could be further from the truth. I want grandchildren one day... She loves kids and im quiet sure i will be a grandfather, several times over. I am teaching through example and word what a good man and father is... I want very much for her to have a fulfilling sex life, (positively wild if that makes her happy) , to be happy and content in the arms of a man she loves.
None of that changes her current age and the age of the person in the scenario poised here. Unacceptable on every level. I have posted before, just recently in fact, that i have no problem with relationships where there is a large age differance.... Provided everyone is old enough to make a reasonable decision. 13,14,15 year olds can't even drive. 16,17,18,19 and 20 year olds arnt old enough to drink legally. These arnt be all end all ages in my eyes and theres plenty of room for variation but as general a principle teenagers arnt old enough to make rational decisions and the law recognizes this.... put simply, in my view 25-35 is not a concern for me with my daughter, 15-25 is a signifigant problem. Signifigant.
As for the pedo remark.... I framed it the way i did and i stand by it. I will reiterate: at best the OP is undeveloped 21 goofball who tragically has something in common with a 15 or "maybe 16" year old girl ( something unthinkable for me at his age and most other normal 21 year old men)... At worst hes a pedophile. Im not makimg the final call on where on the spectrum he lands but threads framing the mother as "overprotective" don't give me the warm and fuzzies for him.

Freedom in admitting the truth...
by _Morpheus infor those that lurk or havnt decided to post yet.... living a lie is difficult.
nobody would likely disagree with that... many of us lived or are living the wt lie for the sake of friends or family.
it can eat at us and put us in situations where we frame half truths, try to find tactful way to avoid telling people what we really think.. there is great freedom in being able to admit truths.

For those that lurk or havnt decided to post yet.... Living a lie is difficult. Nobody would likely disagree with that... Many of us lived or are living the WT lie for the sake of friends or family. It can eat at us and put us in situations where we frame half truths, try to find tactful way to avoid telling people what we really think.
There is great freedom in being able to admit truths. Coming to this place and being able to admit truths, for many of us, is the first step in freedom. Its the first time we feel free to admit to ourselves fhat perhaps the org isnt right about EVERYTHING....
Then we begin to admit that maybe they arnt right about many things.....
In these virtual walls we begin to admit truths that lead us to greater and greater freedom. Not a freedom that can be taken with bars or walls but the ultimate freedom. Freedom of thought and mind. Freedom of belief. The freedom to be who choose we to be.
In the end im reminded of a quote from the count of monte cristo:
"I dont think man was meant to attain happiness so easily. Happiness is like those places in fairy tales whos gates are guarded by dragons: we must fight in order to conquer it."
Wherever you are in that fight, however dark it may seem, slay the dragon. Keep admitting truths to yourself, however shocking those truths may be to you. Truth is freedom.
