  Slim, i swear your cognitive dissonance is working overtime. You never even hinted that the wt sold books to other branchs in any of your dozens of posts on the 3 threads youve started regarding the wt finical crisis and its rediculious to even suggest that “other branchs” were what you meant. You flatly outlined that by withdrawing services (publications) jand by removing the upfront cost to pubs, they no longer donated enough to cover expenses. Period. You said it 10x at least. You have now accepted a third hand report that many branches have a surplus dispite not selling the literature and cutting way back on what they print.

  Which. Is. It.

  Make up your mind. We’ve gone round and round and im frankly dizzy. Its like trying to nail down water... but discussions with cult members usually are.

  Just admit you are cherry picking evidance that you like and that supports your HOPE that the org hs money woes and will therefore change. I dont begrudge you that hope, but im not going to let you pull a philosophical slight of hand and take both sides of an argument just to make yourself feel good about your hopes and dreams

  Slim... pay attention.... you just accepted a report (third hand at best) that the org has a surplus, today, right now, in many countries with NO literature sales. Your whole basis for saying they were done was you couldnt understand how they were making it with no literature sales.... please attempt to reconcile those two opposing points of view.

  td... i cannot and will not theorize about what specific mechanisms the wt would use to enforce tithing because i dont think it would be nessary to enforce much. Simple cult fear and peer presure forces dubbies to do all kinds of things evem now that otherwise reasonable people wouldnt do. They shun mothers fathers and children over man made rules! They willingly die by refusing standard medical treatment! How hard is it believe that they would donate a percentage of their income for god sake??

  Lets review: its a cult. They do what they are told.

  Slim.. im getting dizzy trying to keep with your ever evolving stance on the orgs status... first it was “ they are going to collapse at any minute”... then collapse in 10 years... then maybe in a generation, back and forth between imminent and decades a few times, all the while saying you think they are in trouble because the rubber faced clown lett said so on a broadcast.

  now we get a post where someone claims that a few branches, including the US, are still making money (WITHOUT LITERATURE SALES!!!!!) and you believe it.

  for god sake slim, of course the richest countries on the world have membership that carries the org. Of course they do. I bet japan and other first world nations are fine as well but wernt mentioned in this third hand account. Your willingness to believe this is proof of just how unconvinced you really are of your position and frankly just how little you have considered it.

  You argue for days that literature sales are 100% necessary to make people donate but you one third hand account saying no the us still makes money and you without hesitation accept it. You would be worthless in a court of law.

  Assuming they did.... no, no “teeth” as such. By that i mean no more than the mormons use. It would never be a df’ing offense but it would disqualify them from “privileges” , plenty of cult guilt and obligation etc

  Lol way to miss the point fisherman. I never said pioneering made the org money. It was a comparison, a way to show that the org gas huge controll and ablity to influance its members. I was pointing out that they convince thousands of people to spend 70 hours a month, with no return, in cult recruiting. Thats in addition to whatever work hours they work to support themselves and whatever obligations life throws at them. My point is was and remains, the cult convinces people to do lots of things all the time that are opposed to their self interest. Its foolish and short sighted to think that the dubbies wouldnt tithe simply because there was no tangible return

  TD, i agree in theory that mormons FEEL better and probably FEEL like they get a return of some sort for their tithe... but that will be irrelevant in dubbies going along. FOG dosent ask for a return. Cults only take, they never give. Its again a matter of overthinking. Dubbies convince normal average people to work fulltime and dedicate 70 hours a month to the recruiting work... their members will do whatever they tell them. It wont be called a tithe bit thats what it will be....

  as for ‘oh a letter wont make people pay up’... incorrect sir. I never once saw a CA fall short of the manitory donation. I never once saw a DC fall short. And after the branch and co addressed the short fall to my old congregation they caught up. The branch dosent care WHO makes up the shortfall, be it the elders or little ole sis has a nest egg or little sophoas ice cream money. Somebody will caugh up. All it takes is a sideways look.

  In fairness, TD, “sanction” wasnt my word, it was slims. I was simply pointing out that mormons use simple cult Fear Obligation Guilt to coerce memebers into tithing and are effective at it. Hell mormons dont even “disfellowship” or shun as harshly as Jw’s. When the org is ready to tithe they will do it and be effective. They wont call it a tithe and wont have to. Dubbies will support. Slim fishman and others are way overthinking this. Mormons dubbies fill in the blank, its all the same. Cult religion whatever, they survive selling truth and hope of future happines and they are successful.

  Lol slim we are just going around and around.... liturature WASNT making money. It was simply a vehicle to make feel obligated to donate. Also you didnt show that mormons “sanction” for failing to tithe. They just can't hold positions... so what? Dubbies do that as well. If you dont make ur fs hours you cant be an elder or ms.... tithing wouldnt be any different. Your overthinking this
