Should private citizens be allowed to video record law enforcement?
by Fisherman ini saw an article in the news yesterday that laws are going to be passed subjecting the police to being recorded by anyone while performing their duty or enforcing the law and encourages citizens to sue if they interfere.
some law enforcement agents become angry and confiscate recording devices from people recording them while making an arrest, etc.. it does seem that the work that the police and other government agents do is public and not private or confidential so there should be nothing to hide from the cameras.
on the other hand, how can one distinguish being shot by a camera or by a weapon until one is hit?.

Absolutely i think they should. In the usa many localities are giving police body cameras (DC is one such city). Video isnt always conclusive but man it makes me feel better that i have a camera on my dahsboard.
My son was pulled over in a routine traffic stop a few weeks ago (rightly so, he was speeding). He called me and put me on speaker. Initially the officer was being a bit unprofessional dispite my son being over the top polite, knowing i was listening. . Once i spoke up (through Bluetooth fed to my sons car radio) and assured the officer my son would cooperate and mentioned my backround the encounter turned 180 degrees and ended positively. I doubt it would have ended negatively had i not been on speaker but it would have been less than positive.
Video can have the same effect. People are on their best behavior when they know they are on the record. Officers are under a lot of stress doing a very tough job and if a video camera helps them stay focused and make better decisions then i am 100% for it. If force is justified then it protected the officer and if not then the citizenry needs to be protected from that officer. Hard to see a downside.

Obviously my thinly vield sarcasm and direct mockery of liberal vernacular went over a few heads.. or perhaps it was the reference to british imperialism that ruffled feathers. Let the reader use discernment.

Yes, jws, the maner in which something is governed does indeed count, thank thor. The ends does not justify the means in our country. The fcc cannot make laws. They are not accountable to the people nor are they elected. Let the congress legislate and be accountable to the voters. If you want dictatorial rule fulltime student can make a hellva pitch for you to move to china or north korea. Im content where i am.

Also, jws, refering to ajit pai as working for “his corporate masters” is HIGHLY racist and inappropriate! As a man of indian decent it is incredibly insensative to refer to white coprate heads of verizon (lowell mcadams, ceo chief among them) as his “masters” given the oppression of the indian people by the british.
I have to ask you to please remove that comment or at a minimum apologize. I will be PM’ing simon to have him review the remark fo see if it violates posting guidelines given its deeply racists nature.

you can try to cast labels all you want, lets discuss facts and ideas openly.
The fcc said over and over that rolling back so called net neutrality laws wasnt a move to invite fraud or dishonest competition it was a move to MAKE CONGRESS LEGISLATE.
America isnt supposed to govern via regulation. America governs by laws. The fcc simply toom the position that they wernt entittled to make de facto laws above congress. The congress can and should enact laws that mimic the so called net neutrality laws, but they damn well should do it and not have an unelected agency do it. Let the elected congress who represent the people vote on laws.

And lisa, thats the thing for me... LOCALLY jw’s account for every penny. I did the accounts for years and never a dime that went missing... BUT (and theres always a but) thats only locally. The big chunk donations to the branch are what are never accounted for.
So we know every detail (at least congregation memebers do) of local kh expenses. Electric, gas, phone etc but the branch..? All hidden. Tens of thousands a month rolling in from local halls, never accounted for. Tens of thousands a week from assemblies.... gone. Never accounted for. Billions from property sales... gone. Never accounted for.
Show me the money!!!!

Interestingly, while largely atheist, i am in favor of reedom of religion. I also absolutely think if they want tax exempt status they should be required to publish finances. Its a fair trade off. Im not sure what the rationale is behind them being allowed to keep them private. Strickly on a selfish level it would end the onslaught of ‘the org is doomed!’ Threads ;)

Did you actually read peoples view points? Many have explained in detail that yes they understand the concept. They see and acknowledge what amounts to simple preorders.
Did you see the remarks regarding the problems with the $150 contribution? Do you have any counter points to that?
