there are many terms used at bethel that might sound foreign to normal people.

there are many words or terms used at bethel that are unique only to their organization.

here are just a few of them.. “a jack” this is someone who is a slacker or just lazy.. “a pot licker” this term has been used for many years but its connotation is unclear.

I guess i didnt realize that dan got caught up in the situation with ray and ed, given that he ended up on the gb. It is interesting to me that dan would say to pretty much anyone who pressed him that “the whole theology needs to be rethought”. He said it to me (in a small group setting) when it was there... if he was part of that group that attitude makes sense.. what dosent make sense is letting him on the gb to begin with unless he convinced them he wasnt going to make waves and it looked better to keep him around. As i say i never realized he was part of that group

Man talk about memories! Im far too young to have seen it when it originally aired but it was constantly on daytime tv in reruns when i was a kid. It was a highlight of a day home from school to watch an episiode of leace it to beaver or i love lucy. It wasnt highbrow by any means but it felt like a connection to my parents and things they liked when they were young.

the petition does not seek to ban the jehovah's witness as a whole in the country.

the petition denounces the institutional policy of shunning former members as a violation of basic human rights and psychological torture, and asks the portuguese legislators and judicial authorities to take action to stop this abuse, and suspend legal recognition to the branch office entity until the policies of shunning are changed.

My point exactly john. I allow room for the fact that its US law im familiar with and this petition isnt for the us, but typically western law will laugh this petition out of its sight. Again, im not judging the effort negatively, just being realistic

I think it's an interesting civilizational discussion to have, to say the least.
I feel strongly that institutionalized shunning and discrimination cannot be allowed to a religious entity, especially when that is used as a form of punishment that extends beyond the boundaries of the membership to said institution

i agree, of course, but no law can or will change it. They (the jw’s) will lie regarding the nature of shunning and no one can prove otherwise. They will also say its individual choices. Its fruitless. But if it makes you feel better then again by all means mount up and charge. No harm will come from it and legal challanges have merit even if unsuccessful, but i doubt they will hear it. The ramifications would be too far reaching.

Do you know any good novel about faith crisis?

i'm looking for something to read.

i'm interested in ecclesiastical settings like churches and gothic cities.

but the most important thing i look for is the inner thoughts and evolution of the main character: his/her feelings of guilt, regular visits to the confessor, self-comfort drawn from faith, praying god/saints, relapses and self-loathing as well as his/her process of "waking up".. i know it's something very particular and there's a lot of junk literature about the topic with poor writing and archetype characters, but if you have read anything of good quality, i would be very glad to know.. thank you in advance..

Crisis of conscience. It has all the elements you asked for, including the character progression of a cult leader realizing the truth about the cult he was unwittingly leading. Its a good read.

i know alot of the euros here hate the idea but i wonder if there are any other members who are collectors or who are into hunting, target shooti g etc.. no shame zone?.

And please remember that guns - when used as a weapon - are inherently an offensive weapon. Not a defensive one.

If you are refering to use in the commission of crimes you are course correct. If you are refering to use in home defense (as the context of your remarks imply) you are unbelievably ignorant as to the word “offensive” or purposefully perverting it to push your nazi/leftist gun confiscation agenda.
